ipod touch needs battery

Hi, I got an ipod touch 3rd gen that i only use when i go on hoiday. anyway, just got it out of the box to put new music on as going away in 3 weeks, and now the battery dont hold its charge, lasts about 2 hours on stanby and then its dead.

i called apple and they can put a new battery in for £60ish, which i think is a bit steap, is there any where else it can be done? Failing to do that was gonna ebay it (its like new no marks or anything) and put that towards a new one.

what you people think?

If you're even considering selling it on ebay, you'd have to advertise it as faulty regardless of whether it has any marks or scratches. As a result of that. you wouldn't get very much for it at all.

I'd bite the bullet and pay the £60. Still far cheaper than a new one, and it's barely changed in the 4th generation so buying a new one wouldn't be much of an upgrade anyway (unless you're really that fussed about retina display and a camera on a gadget you only rarely use).

A new battery is quite cheap and comes with the tools required. There are plenty of instructions on the internet on how to change it.

You will likely have local shops that will charge about 30 quid if your not comfortable doing it yourself.

thanks for the advice,

i did look at doing it myself, but thought against it.

i went to the local apple store on Sunday, to see if they could do it which they can but you have to book an appointment (got one for Tuesday)

but when i left i went to a local shop, who said he could do it for £70, but at my own risk as its very easy to crack the touch screen,

he said what apple do is, you pay them the money to do the job, and they just give you a new one. is that the case?

In my experience they will replace the battery, and not give you a new one.

I'm not sure why they would break the screen it's not that difficult...

Charging 70 quid for a 10 min job to replace a 10 quid battery is a complete con, my local charged me 30 quid to do the same in an iPhone 3G, and didn't mention anything about breaking anything in the process.
