LNB conversion / dish upgrade

Hi - I'm new to the Digitalspy. I'm sure this is a much repeated question but ...

I've just bought a Grundig Freesat+ box to go with our new HD TV. This all done to bring a dormant Sky dish back to life, which has been unused for the 5 years since we moved in.

I was hoping to post a photo of the dish here to get someone to confirm what type I have (is there a way of doing this?) I'm pretty sure though that it's an old Mk1 and was beginning to resign myself to the fact that I needed to replace it. But I've just spotted this on ebay ...

All the research I have done so far suggests that there is NOT a suitable LNB replacement for this type of dish out there. Is it worth a punt, or best to get a new dish? The small cost to do either is making me say 'new dish'. The labour involved and my poor relationship with ladders is saying 'naaah, just replace the LNB'.

Also - if I did replace the dish, I was considering getting a zone 2 (I'm in Bristol). I know it's not strictly necessary, but is it correct that it improves reception - especially in poor conditions?

Any thoughts / experiences very welcome - thanks!

If it were me I would replace the dish, they cost so little these days and you wont have to fudge the lnb connection.. A 60cm will give you more rain fade margin and may also let you get away with minor diy alignment errors simply because of the extra gain. It will have a very slightly tighter focus than the smaller dish, not to any noticeable effect though in my experience. I have a self installed 60cm dish in the Midlands, it's immune to cloud burst conditions but has lost signal once due to 4" of wet snow on the dish face. As its only 8ft off the floor a broom sorted that out sharpish

Thanks for that. I think the least I can hope for now is that I can use the bracket that is already on the wall. It would be good to use a little bit of equipment that is already there. That was the whole point of moving from Freeview to Freesat after all!
