Fans of Halloween movies

Recently finished watching every Halloween movie.

I watched Halloween 4, 5, 6 and the two newer Rob Zombie ones over 4 days. Seen the other ones before.

Really enjoyed 4 but it went a bit downhill from there but I overall I did like most of them.

Rob Zombie's remake was pretty much a violent gross out movie and not a patch in the original. But this seems to be the trend for horror movies nowadays.

The worst one was probably Halloween 2 (2009). Didn't feel like a Halloween movie at all. Just some long haired hobo on a mission to kill everyone and everything that crossed his path.

Overall prefer the original series over the new one.

I'm a life long Halloween fan, in fact I'd go so far as to say a bit of an expert/geek.

There's no denying the original is the best, I watch it every Halloween without fail.
Halloween II is an underrated follow up that had no choice but to up the body count and play it more as a killer on the loose film rather than a tense exercise in suspense.

Haloween III lacks Michael Myers but has it's charms.

Parts 4-6 go down the Friday 13th "inventive death" route and come off as poor imitations really.

H20 does a really good job of being a decent sequel and tribute in one go. H20 owes a lot to Scream which in itself would never have happened without Halloween.

Resurrection just rides the wave of the reemergence of horror movies to so-so effect.

Personally I like the Rob Zombie remake, I love the dirty grimy feel of it. Halloween didn't really need a remake but I think Zombie pulls it of with style. It could quite easily have been a cheap looking pile of shit like The Fog remake.

Halloween 2 (2009) keeps hold of the dirty feel but just doesn't seem to go anywhere. And as a horror fan it seemed way too violent even for me.

My overall love for Halloween boils down to Michael Myers - no other horror character is in my opinion as scary.
Just the silence and cold, emotionless demeanor is enough to give anyone nightmares.

Oh, and that music!!!!!!!

I've been watching 2 or 3 Halloween movies a year for the past 2 years.
This year its the turn of 6,7 and 8 and I got a Bluray set from Canada with all 3 on last year so thats lined up for this October.

Also pleased that the original Halloween 2 is on US Bluray in September coupled with Terror In the Aisles - a feature that only an 80's video fan might remember.
Worth buying for that on its own as long as its the full version and not some edited cut with clips removed

Rob Zombies Halloween movies are more akin to Texas Chainsaw movies than Halloween movies.

For me the dirty redneck hillbilly type horror just doesn't suit Halloween.

I remember watching Terror in the Aisles on VHS in the 80s and wishing I could see all the films featured in full.

Quite liked the halloween series, the original is the best,i only recently saw the extended cut, some interesting scenes with loomis and the board at smiths grove, also shows young michael a lot more inside the asylum, part 2 was a decent follow-up,season of the witch was not to bad for what it was,it would have worked better as a stand alone movie, part 4 was alright, the setting was quite eerie,i didnt think part 5 was up to much, the ending at the time just left me confused when i was a kid lol i wanted to know who the man in black was and we didnt get a sequel for a few years,i only saw halloween 6 about 3years ago,it was the producers cut so there was a lot of grainy footage but overall it was quite good,H20 was one of the better sequels,it just blanks out anything after the events of part 2 lol only saw the one with busta rhymes once and that was enough,i did enjoy the remakes, the mask looked great, all dirty and meancing, the way the rain fell on it in part 2 looked pretty cool.

Apparently Universal have confirmed the film will be complete and will be HD too.

Can't see a UK release coming

Is Halloween 2 a Universal title in the UK ?

Halloween 2 isn't Universal in the UK, not sure what label it I as it's changed quite a lot.

US Universal Blu-Rays are almost always region free so import it. That's what I'll be doing, the UK version is cut anyway - at least it was, it may been passed uncut in recent years but the US version will definitely be uncut.

For me watching the series late was pretty good, I saw 4, 5 and 6 on a daily basis. Had them stored on my PVR of over 2 years!

The cliffhanger at the end of 4 was one of the best twists I've ever seen in a horror movie so I had to watch 5 the next day. Also the twist at the end of 5 with the man in black was also pretty gripping.

And the new Rob Zombie ones, I watched them one day apart.

I've always felt those who watch a movie series late but in a marathon get a far better viewing experience than those who watch early and have to wait for sequels.

What is the fuss with H4? I understand it is either uncut version or extended.

I like Halloween 1, 2 and 3!!!
I then like H20 where again they should have stopped it here with a great come back.

Not a fan of Rob Zombies remakes. I would not even class them as a remake, as nothing similar really bit like the remake of TCM.

Rob Zombie pretty much turned Michael's family into trailer park trash which I have never associated Michael Myer's family as being, nor do I think it ever should have been.

I also preferred the mystery of why Michael killed as opposed to Zombie's vision that he was bullied and treated badly at home.

Halloween 1, 2, 4 and H20 are the only good ones. The first one in particular is a horror masterpiece.

The Rob Zombie remakes are atrocious. The second one is just laughable, and probably one of the worst films i've paid to see at the cinema, here is some sample dialogue:

"Ahhhhhh! F*CK!, Baby, don't die, baby! f*ck, f*ck, f*ck, baby don't die! f*ck, f*ck, F*CK, F*CK, baby, F*CK, F*CK!!!" - Repeat for 2 hours, and throw in some shitty nonsensical dream sequences about a white horse, while filming some scenes with Malcolm McDowell who is clearly phoning it in and wondering what the hell he's doing there. Awful.

iv just rewatched it all too LOL

loved 1,2+h20 its the perfect trilogy

i watched 1,2+h20 back to back i love how 2 picks up right after 1 it still feels like the same night even though it was shot like two years later lol.

h4 is also great kinda stupid but great fun lol.

h6 i love its style,editing its a cool sequel.
one of the best kills is in h6 when the main chick is watching her house and micheals stabbing some girl in her room then theres flashes as he does each stab its a really cool effect love it. ignore all the thorn nonsence and its a great slasher.

h5 is annoying but eerie for some reason feels very unlike halloween its cast is disgracefully annoying.

ressurection is just a disgrace awfull awfull awfull awfull disgrace when i watch it you can smell the poo so bad you have to turn it off once lauries dead

Halloween 2 used to be cut -pretty sure its uncut now.
I originally had the Goodtimes dvd which was not anamorphic but I got the anamorphic Universal one a couple of years back.

Halloween 3 had 2 UK releases.
One in 4:3 and one in 16:9 - none in the correct 2.35:1 of the US disc.

I was going to watch the dvd's of 6,7 and 8 last year until I discovered the Canadian region coded Bluray of all 3 but I got it too late for Halloween so saving them for this year.

I think there are US Bluray releases for them this year but not paid attention to who is releasing them.

The first Halloween film was an absolute classic, but Halloween Three, which departed from Michael Myers for a completed unrelated story, was a very good film in its own right. That sequence in which the hero sees the fat boy being used as a guinea-pig for the deadly mask is absolutely chilling-especially if you have an aversion to creepy crawlies! It's amazing how that 'cheerful' jingle they recurrently play in the film ('Three more days to Hal-lo-ween, Hal-lo-ween, Hal-lo-ween...") becomes sinister and ominous, as you begin to understand its awful ramifications-and the ending, without spoiling it for those yet to see it, is utterly terrifying and horrific, not because of what it shows, but because of what it leaves to your imagination!

One of my favourite Halloween moments is in H20 when Janet Leigh who plays Norma (geddit) repeats the line from Halloween to Laurie about everyone deserving one good scare.
She then walks to the original Psycho car while a small element of the Psycho music slips into the soundtrack.

For a Psycho/Hitchcock/Halloween geek like me that was pure genius.
Tinged with sadness now Janet Leigh is no longer with us.

I didn't like the Rob Zombie films at all. I'm a big fan of Halloween 1-7. I still think the opening sequence of Halloween 4 is one of the best ever in a horror film.

It's really not.

Anyway, looking forward to next one, whichever route they decide to go.

That is if they ever decide to progress.
