Hi
Can anyone advise please?
I formerly had sky which made using my tevion multimedia system a synch (http://www.fascin8.co.uk/f8/tevion/h...ipod-hifi-5632)
However, sky has now gone and I use freeview in my Toshiba Tegra 37av555d telly.
I cannot, whatever I try get the TV to come through my tevion system any more (remember that this would have gone through sky) and I can only get surround through it when I play a DVD.

Can anyone advise at all please? Do I give this up and go for a home cinema? What difference would that make?

Many Thanks

Louise

You need to feed audio out of the telly to the Tevion system. One option is SCART if the TV is wired for audio and video output and the Tevion can accept audio return via SCART.

The other alternative is to run a stereo phono lead from the L/R AUDIO INPUT sockets on the back of the Tevion to the L/R AUDIO OUT sockets on the TV (assuming there are any). I assume your Sky box was hooked up like this?

Hi
Thanks for your answer. I think that I have tried all of these. I get nothing from the system when its set up like this. Yes indeed I had HDMI from the TV into the Sky box and then L/R from the sky box to the Tevion.

What are you plugging the lead into on the back of the telly? Make sure that the AUDIO sockets you re using are outputs. Usually any such outputs will be just a pair of sockets all on their own with an AUDIO OUT label above/below them.

There may be several other AUDIO L/R sockets on the back of the TV but they are likely to be inputs which are no good for this purpose.

There is always the possibility that your TV does not have any analogue audio outputs but instead has digital audio out. Again pretty useless as the Tevion does not appear to have digital audio inputs (only outputs).

If there are no clearly marked AUDIO OUT sockets on the TV then a couple of options may be available. If the TV has a headphone jack socket then you could use that to feed the Tevion system. The other possibility is one of the SCART sockets may be wired for output.

You can check this by looking for a symbol next to the socket that looks like a TV screen with an arrow (or arrows) across one edge. If there is an arrow pointing out of the screen then that socket is wired for output. If so and it is free then a simple SCART adapter plug would give you the audio outputs you need. There are SCART leads with the audio output available on a "flying" lead with phono plugs on if the SCART is in use and there is no spare to use. So you can still plug up whatever you have in the socket and get audio out at the same time.

Posts crossing in the ether

I see that the TV does not have any phono sockets for audio out by the looks of it.

However it does look like both SCARTs are wired for output if one believes the little screen symbol above the sockets. So using an adapter plug in one of those (or a SCART to phono lead) may well sort you out.

Example adapter plug

Example lead

And there is always the headphone socket which needs a lead such as

HI Chris
Ok have tried both of those suggestions as I had the cables in.
So, i took the scart lead with the yell, white and red on the end, put the scart into the one with the arrow then the yellow, red and white into the Tevion L/R input. I also did this with one of the adaptors and tried both the phono type leads and a scart.

I wonder if this is just not going to happen. I'm usually fairly good at working stuff out but on this I'm lost I must admit

Thanks though

What type of SCART lead is it? There are three types, IN, OUT and Switched (in out relative to the SCART). You need an OUT or switched type set to OUT.

And where exactly are you trying to plug in on the Tevion? There is no yellow connection for the audio in so if you have plugged all three leads in then you must have plugged into the composite AV out which is the wrong place.

On that link you provided to the Tvion is a link to the manual. There is a diagram of the rear panel the INPUT sockets you need are numbered 9 on that diagram. Ignore the yellow plug as that is not required.

You may also need to go into the TV menu to double check what it is sending out of the SCART. Some TVs give you a choice of the TV tuner or some other input or maybe it just follows whatever is being displayed on screen.
