Elaine says: (18:34:49)
Evening are you ready to begin ?
Mercedes says: (18:35:05)
Hello, Lainey, I'm ready to begin anytime.
Elaine says: (18:35:28)
Right so just going to jump straight in and get on with the interview......
Elaine says: (18:35:37)
What do you feel was your strongest task, and why?
Mercedes says: (18:36:40)
I feel that I've performed strongly throughout, but that I was perhaps at my strongest in Task 3, when I PMed.
Mercedes says: (18:37:25)
Although we lost two members of the team, and it seemed really unbalanced, Gav & I managed to pull it back and achieve victory.
Mercedes says: (18:38:36)
I feel that along with being a good PM in that task (which my team members acknowledged), I also took a vital role in the writing and creative aspect.
Mercedes says: (18:38:38)
*aspects
Elaine says: (18:38:45)
So was being in charge the only way you proved yourself ? you were pretty quiet untill then ? why was that ?
Mercedes says: (18:39:10)
No, I don't think I was quiet up until then, and I don't think it was the only way I proved myself.
Mercedes says: (18:39:55)
I think I've proved myself throughout this process, including during the first two tasks.
Mercedes says: (18:40:20)
In the first task, I was the one who came up with the idea of a celebrity RPG, and I also took a central role in writing the pitch and developing the format.
Mercedes says: (18:40:38)
In the second task, I came up with the idea of focusing with Cardiff, and also did most of the initial research and large sections of the writing.
Mercedes says: (18:41:10)
I just chose the third task as my strongest because, up until then, I think the teams had been unbalanced in my favour.
Elaine says: (18:41:15)
So you did a lot more than any of the other final 4 ? who would you say was the weakest so since you worked with most of them ?
Mercedes says: (18:41:57)
I don't think that I've done a lot more than the others - I think we've all been very strong and dedicated throughout the process.
Mercedes says: (18:42:33)
With the 'weakest' question - that's a difficult one since I haven't worked closely with Tyjet, but I think I would have to pick him PURELY on the basis of his task losses.
Mercedes says: (18:43:03)
However, I do think that he's shone through as a good candidate, and I think we've all come into these interviews on a strong footing.
Elaine says: (18:43:06)
If you are all strong then you wont mind losing out on your place in the final for any of the others ?
Mercedes says: (18:43:53)
Oh, I would be very disappointed, but not so much as I would if I underestimated the others' strengths.
Mercedes says: (18:44:07)
Don't get me wrong - whilst I believe that we're all strong, I also believe that I offer unique strengths of my own.
Mercedes says: (18:44:12)
And I hope Rory takes that into account.
Elaine says: (18:44:43)
The point of the apprentice is to be the best of all your competition and to fight all of the others off ? something to bare in mind ........
Elaine says: (18:44:57)
In contrast what do you feel was your weakest and again why ?
Mercedes says: (18:45:57)
Oh, I understand that, but I think Rory should pick his final two based on their positive traits, and not the negative things that the other candidates say about them.
Mercedes says: (18:46:13)
This is a difficult one again, but I think I'll have to pick Task 2.
Mercedes says: (18:46:53)
Although I feel that I contributed very much to large parts of the task, I also think that Task 2 was where I made my biggest mistake, in that I pushed hard for a slogan that, in retrospect, could have damaged our team badly.
Mercedes says: (18:47:19)
I was also absent on the last day of the task because I had to go to London - although I don't think I should be penalised for that, I do think that it perhaps meant I couldn't display my talents as much as I would have liked.
Elaine says: (18:48:54)
So task 2 it was. Why did you push a slogan if didnt believe in it ?
Mercedes says: (18:49:19)
I did believe in it, and I still love the slogan.
Mercedes says: (18:49:26)
(for the record, it was 'Cardiff - so fetch'.)
Mercedes says: (18:49:37)
But I think it could have made our team seem like we weren't taking it seriously.
Elaine says: (18:50:27)
Very ehmm interesting so you were comparing consumers to dogs ? like go fetch a bone ? Go fetch a holliday ? is that the gist of it ?
Mercedes says: (18:50:47)
Oh, no, sorry - it was a Mean Girls reference.
Mercedes says: (18:51:10)
The term 'so fetch' is a slang term in that film, meaning 'so cool'.
Elaine says: (18:52:08)
ah I think it would have been interpreted my way by the masses I am afraid

Anyways next question............
Elaine says: (18:52:40)
Take your time with your answers ...........
Elaine says: (18:52:42)
Do you feel you have learned anything from these tasks ?
Have you learned anything about yourself in the process? if so what ?
What has been the most difficult aspect of the tasks for you ?
Mercedes says: (18:53:47)
Oh, yes, I think I've learned a lot from this process, both about myself and in general.
Mercedes says: (18:54:52)
I think it's helped me to develop my confidence - I've become much more confident about my ideas, for example, and also about my team-building/PMing skills.
Elaine says: (18:55:31)
Team building so you were always willing to go that extra mile for your team ?
Mercedes says: (18:56:04)
I also think it's helped me to develop some great business skills that could be crucial in my career down the line - for example, I think I've developed a lot as a communicator throughout the process.
Mercedes says: (18:56:54)
As for the most difficult aspect - I guess it would be in being confrontational with others when I believe they're making mistakes, although I do think that I've managed to display that skill at points.
Mercedes says: (18:57:02)
And yes, I think I have been willing to go the extra mile throughout.
Elaine says: (18:57:13)
what sort of communication skills have you learned ?
Mercedes says: (18:57:30)
I've put in a lot of hard work during these tasks, and I think it's paid off a lot.
Mercedes says: (18:57:53)
I think I've become more confident when it comes to expressing my ideas, for example.
Elaine says: (18:57:57)
Next two questions fit together so......
Elaine says: (18:57:59)
Would you have ever given less than 100% to a task, if you felt your full effort wasn’t needed for the victory ?
Did you on any occasion give less than 100% ?
Mercedes says: (18:59:17)
(sorry, this is a continued response to the last question) Although I put forward a lot of ideas in the first couple of tasks, I felt quite uneasy about pushing them, even though they turned out to be viable strategies, and I think I've developed past that.
Mercedes says: (18:59:34)
And no, I don't think I would have ever done that.
Mercedes says: (19:00:14)
I've shown throughout that I'm dedicated to winning - even in Task 4, when I strongly disliked the idea of anyone on the other team getting fired, I still worked as hard as I possibly could to source the items, and I think that showed in the BR.
Elaine says: (19:00:58)
Right last but most important questions so take your time with your answers ..........
Mercedes says: (19:00:59)
Even after Poth told me to stop looking, I still continued, and we would have lost by a far greater amount if we hadn't.
Mercedes says: (19:01:07)
*if I hadn't
Elaine says: (19:01:18)
Your record has been good and very consistant on paper, however we never really examined your performances too much. What makes you better than the other candidates ? Have you taken enough risks in the competition ? worked hard enough ? WHY should we pick you Ana ? Now is your time to sell yourself to us all.................
Mercedes says: (19:03:11)
I feel that my consistency is a crucial part of my strength as a candidate - I've never slacked or taken a backseat throughout this process, even when I wasn't PMing, or (as mentioned), when I didn't want anyone on the other team to be fired.
Elaine says: (19:03:50)
Did you feel anyone slacked at any time or another then ?
Mercedes says: (19:04:00)
I've taken a lot of risks throughout - for example, in the third task, I took a massive risk by picking Florrie as it was felt that she could be too well-known.
Mercedes says: (19:05:53)
I'm also incredibly practical and diplomatic - I've come through this process without making any enemies, which says a lot about me, and I've also succeeded in turning a couple of apparent losses into wins or near-wins.
Mercedes says: (19:06:47)
And I said this in my interview with Aliyah - whilst I don't think any of the final four have slacked very much (though I wouldn't say the same for some of the fired candidates), I do think that Carlisle was perhaps slightly unfocused in the last task.
Mercedes says: (19:07:10)
(but that was due to stuff in RL, so I don't want to make a big thing out of it.)
Elaine says: (19:07:37)
So you dont think that was the best task he has done ? did you do a lot of the work or what ?
Mercedes says: (19:08:27)
Oh, I think he was a great PM for the most part - he fostered creativity and he came up with a lot of ideas for the pub, as well as doing a lot of the writing - I just think he was distracted at a couple of points.
Mercedes says: (19:08:49)
But I spoke to him about that and he turned it around really well, so like I said, I don't think that should be a big thing.
Elaine says: (19:08:55)
Ah I see
Elaine says: (19:09:10)
Is there any final words that you want to say ?
Mercedes says: (19:10:24)
No, I think we've pretty much covered it all, if that's okay.
Elaine says: (19:10:41)
Thank you Ana and good luck
Mercedes says: (19:10:49)
Thank you very much, Lainey!
