Hi all
I would really appreciate some advice as I'm buying a house very soon and want to kit it out with a decent home audio & cinema set up.

In particular right now I need advice with what cables to lay down to make it as future proof as possible.
The house currently has bare floor boards so I want to get all the right cables down straight away so I can then lay carpet/flooring.

I want to run Sky in front & back rooms downstairs & upstairs, and likewise with speakers. I was even thinking of connecting Sky up to a shed/summer house at end of garden.

Is coax the way to go? If so what type is best with possibly up to 15-20 metre lengths?
HDMI - is this the way to go? If so what type?
Speaker cable - any pointers of what type and where best to get it?

Are there any interesting & helpful websites on this subject?
I appreciate any advice or pointers. I'm not loaded with money so wouldn't be looking at top end products.

Coax sattelite grade WF100 is best for everything. HDMI is not suitable for very long runs. You need to plan what services you want at each location and where the source is located. The easiest approach these days is wire the entire house with cat5 to produce your own network. Various items of kit can act as video servers. For instance with the right kit you could have a Foxsat-hdr in the lounge with the free modified firmware with two coax cables to a lnb and a connection to your network. A media server in say two bedrooms would allow viewing of different recorded content from the hdr while viewing a different live channel in the lounge and recording two other channels at the same time.

A friend used a local custom install company to do just this.

He has a central AV cupboard where his Sky HD boxes, bluray player, AV amp and BB router are located. From there HDMI is run to every room in the house to distribute HD video.

He did consider cat 5 cabling for network but decided that wireless was the way to go and has Sonos and a NAS for wireless music streaming.
