Hi
Hope i am posting in the right place ! We were given a Hitachi HDR255 Set top box / recorder. Since we have had it it regularly provides a "jumpy" picture. We have replaced the scart cables to no avail. It has been getting worse all the time. Then on Friday we lost the BBC channels, Channel 5 channels and several others. The channel either does not appear or does and freezes almost immediately. We have tried rescanning for channels and rebooting to no avail.
Totally fed up today, we replaced it with our ancient Phillips box (no recording on it), very basic and it is working beautifully. So it cannot be the signal.
Does anyone have any ideas or had a similar experience with the HDR255 ? Many thanks .

There are lots of possibilities, but it may be that when the signal is split for the two tuners, it isn't strong enough.

There is a forum for PVRs and the Hitachi is discussed in the Digihome forum (its a clone).

I have this box and i have the exact same problem, it varies some days it's the BBC and other days it's Ch4 or ITV channels and I can never get Challenge or Yesterday. I don't think it's the box but problems with signals (I'm on Sutton Coldfield transmitter) I also have Freeview built into my TV and it's the same on there. When I first got the box there was no problem at all! It is just over the past month or so. One thing I thought about was the switching off of the Wrekin transmitter not long ago, maybe that's the problem?? I now get more than one BBC's channels and they are numbered in the 800's on the EPG. Maybe your old box is better at picking up poor signals?

I have one and all the channels just disappear randomly, then when you try to retune it will either skip straight through or just pick up some channels but not all of them, where are you, have you gone through DSO yet or are you still recieving analogue (normal) one to five, I get my signal from waltham and this problem only started when the HD Mux was introduced and all the SD channels were squeezed into the other five muxes.

If you have duplicated channels in the 800 range then you are probably receiving signals from more than one transmitter. This will possibly result in weaker signal channels being placed in the normal range of channel locations and the stronger channels from your preferred transmitter being placed in the 800 range.

To overcome this you should do a First Time Installation procedure followed by Manual Tuning of only the correct MUX frequencies for your preferred transmitter.
