My OH adopted two 14 week male dumbo rats today. Bit of a spur of the moment purchase as we originally went to the pet shop for poly boxes for tortoise hibernation. He'd thought of getting a rat for a while so when he saw these two and how tame and sociable they are, he went for it. They're quite shy atm which is expected so hoping they become less so soon. Having trouble deciding in names though - I like Burt and Ernie but he wants to call them Drain and Pipe!?

We have 10 dumbo rats, all rescues. 5 of each and they are wonderful. every one has its own character which makes them ideal pets especially if you get them young enough and can handle them every day.

My grand-daughter has three. They are so gentle. One of them rolls over onto its back for my GD to stroke it's belly, another one goes round the cage tidying up and putting things where they belong, and the third one is just so loving. All three put their little heads on one side when you stroke their heads. They are bathed once a week and love to snuggle up in things. My daughter cut the sleeves off an old dressing gown and made a hammock and they love it - better than the canvas bought one.
