How do I do it??? I have the cable to go from the phone to the laptop but when I plug it in it just charges. I went to Connect to PC settings on the phone and it said Default connection type was charge. So I have tried changing that to each of the other options (disk drive, HTC Sync, USB tethering) but none of them make a folder pop up on the laptop so I can see what is on the phone. Any ideas?

Hi, sorry i don't have an answer to your question, but do you like your wildfire S? I'm thinking of buying one as a stop gap until my contract comes up.

What is the battery life like? I have heard mixed things!

Ive had this problem on a htc. Completely power cycling the phone was the only way to solve it i.e. shut the phone down completely and turn back on.

I absolutely love it. It's my 1st smart phone so I didn't know what to expect but it's great. At first the battery life was awful but now I just make sure I have the GPS off and the mobile internet off until I want to use it and it's fine. I charge it every morning for a couple of hours or sometimes overnight. There are also hints somewhere (linked on one of these threads) about how to double your battery life, to do with charging overnight then unplugging, switching it off and charging another hour while off. I don't find I need to do that though.

It might sound obvious, but you want the disk drive option. It also might sound obvious, but you will need a driver for the phone. On Windows this normally loads the first time you plug the phone in.

Thanks for clarifying that - I thought it was the disk driver but wasn't totally sure. Nothing has loaded like a driver though

You shouldn't need a driver, the phone just becomes a memory card reader for the installed MicroSD card. The phone can't access the card (data or moved2SD apps - incuding their home screen icons) whilst connected.
However there are some solutions which can sync etc by Wifi, bluetooth or USB. This restriction doesn't apply with the wireless connection - you can still charge using the USB.

See MobileGo and MyPhoneExplorer (Android market).
