What an utterly bizarre thread, with even more bizarre responses.

This will probably come as a shock to most who have posted here, but...people have different tastes. To "not understand" people not liking certain foods is to, in fact, "not understand" that incredibly basic premise.

Pasta, my husband won't eat it at all! Mind you he does like that s**t in tins by Heinz which barely counts.

I'd hardly call it bizarre. It is about food that people love and don't know why others don't. I eat any food so personally I find it strange that people won't even try some foods.

There's a difference between "I find it strange that people won't even try some foods" and "I find it strange that people don't like some foods".

Not trying foods is strange, and I say that as someone who did used to "not like" things until I actually tasted them.

But it's not strange to dislike foods that you have actually tasted. I've tasted onion. I don't like it. I've tasted humus. I don't like it. Why can't people "understand" that?

You're taking this thread waaaay too seriously - it was meant to be light-hearted. Chill-out or move along...

Ever so slightly off topic but it really annoys me when people say they don't like certain foods when they've never even tried them.

Peas, what is ther to dislike about this yummy vegetable?

I still think you're completely missing the point of the thread.

Unless this thread is about something other than people "not understanding" why others dislike certain foods, no, I don't think so.

The first time I tried olives, I couldn't decide whether I liked them or not. I actually ate a whole jar trying to make up my mind. (I decided I love them!)

I have two friends who can't stand tomatoes, which I find amazing I love love love them and eat them nearly every day in one form or another - fresh (either raw or cooked), sun-dried, tinned.

Yep - one of my friends hates them too - as well as anything tomato-based e.g. baked beans - which is why I listed them. If he has a meal and they make an appearance, he has to pick them out and put them on my plate - weird.

I also know what you mean about olives, LOL!

I see Mark.'s point.

I like cheese, but not all cheeses, e.g. Danish Blue, Gouda, Edam for example.

I like pizza, but not all pizzas, e.g. ones with a pineapple or olive topping.

I like certain spicy foods, but not all spicy food, e.g. most curries.

I like most sweets and chocolate, but not all, e.g. anything with liquorice or aniseed in them.

I like most smoked meats and fish, but not smoked kipper or salami with peppercorns in.

etc. etc.

So, it just boils down to individual taste.

I may be a bit out of step, in that I will eat almost anything, somethings I just 'eat' and get no great tasty pleasure from but they are edible enough - fuel food if you like, as opposed to a culinary delight.

We eat a lot of offal, last week we had lambs hearts, which look a bit horrible but taste fantastic.

We've got a whole cows tongue, from the butchers in the fridge ready for cooking tomorrow.

The OH has got some snails in a big bowl currently 'purging'.

However, I wont touch baked beans, nope no way, never, not ever.

I hate pasta, HATE it. No-one can ever understand it.

I hate the texture, be it overcooked, undercooked or perfectly al dente. I can't understand how people like it.

I used to dislike pasta too but not anymore although it would never be my first choice to order in a restaurant.

Spicy food. I don't mean very spicy food but I can't understand not wanting any spice whatsoever, ever! I have a friend with such palate which essentially meant she would only eat very bland food, the thought of which used to make me feel nauseous...

And perhaps your spicy food made her feel nauseous

No it didn't, actually. Funnily enough her boyfriend has started introducing her to Indian food so she's not as bad as she used to be. Where she was concerned, it was a typical example of someone declaring they didn't like something they hadn't even tried, i.e. closed-mindedness. Still not getting in the spirit of the thread are you?

The thread is about "not understanding" why people don't like certain foods.

Pretty unambiguous. And completely absurd, with a hint of arrogance.
