I would love a more varied palette, have even considered hypnotism. To see if it works. I guess it's all 'in the mind' but it is really hard to overcome so I do sympathise with those who will and won't eat certain things.
I have a friend who is even worse. They won't even eat sauces. Of ANY kind. Now I LOVE my sauces. BBQ, Ranch, Ketchup, mayo, all of them. But if we go out and he has a burger, he will have it plain. Nothing. No salad, no sauce, just the meat - in a bun.
Now THAT is odd.”
I'm a fussy eater too, and it's the texture that gets me every time. I'm getting a little better, the crunch of lettuce and thinly sliced onions is bearable. I maintain that it's the 'unexpected crunch' which is the worst bit. I've recently started using tomato passata (seived tomatoes, no bits!) instead of canned chopped tomatoes and the difference is amazing. It's so much thicker, and no need to worry about squishy tomatoes lurking in my dinner.
On the burger thing, there's an amazing burger place that I go to, and what makes it perfection is the additional extras; the garlic mayo, the relish, the red onion and lettuce. Of course, no matter when we're in there'll be someone in earshot ordering 'burger, plain with nothing on it.' They're missing out!
