Hi, I'm new to BT Vision. Although it seems I have to have the BT Vision box connected to my Home Hub when you first power it on, as long as you leave it in standby, you can then disconnect the hub and carry on watching TV OK.

But I tried to record a programme for the first time yesterday, and it told me I couldn't do so without connecting to the broadband link. I did and everything was OK. So my question is this - why do I need to do this? Is it actually downloading the programme from the internet somewhere rather than recording over air? If not, why do I need to connect it? If it is downloading it, what exactly is it downloading and how much is it going to eat into my monthly limit?

If I buy a 'normal' Freesat box with hard disk recorder, they record over the air don't though - so why does BT Vision need the broadband link?

To be clear - I'm just talking about recording any old show from say BBC1 - not the on demand stuff - I know that gets downloaded.

Hi , you need the broadband connection for the EPG,it is updated over your broadband. the channels come through you aieral. hope this helps. Also your on demand and iplayer do not affect your monthly allowance.
