I love Zooey Deschanel's voice.

I don't think there is a bad track on the pretty reckless album. I wish Far From Never was included on my copy of the album though.

I like all of these and I like Ladyhawke and Jennifer Hudson as well.

Sia; love her to pieces and it feels like her last album came out many years ago; not just one!

Always think of Mumm-Ra when this question pops up. Thought These Things Move In Three's was a cracking album, songs like Down, Down, Down, Now or Never & She's Got You High. I'm surprised they didn't make a bigger impact, I heard She's Got You High on an advert recently! That song certainly does the rounds on adverts & films..

Also, Stephen Fretwell, Not going to lie, I discovered him from Gavin & Stacey ("Run" is the closing credit) and it took me a good few years to actually listen to the rest of his stuff, and God it's good. Magpie is a cracker album with some great songs like Run, Play, New York & -. The Man On The Roof was good too, love The Scheme

Another one is Sufjan Stevens. A phenomenal singer-songwriter who didn't chart over here until Age Of Adz, his weakest album imo. Although, he is well received, mostly for "Illinois"

Yeah nice one I would agree with Sufjan who I saw in concert last month.

One of the greatest neglected and in my opinion the best soul voice of all time Donny Hathaway, anyone who has never heard him, give it a try.

A real troubled soul who took his own life at 34.

So do i

I also think Taylor Motem is a talented songwriter and singer. Her bad girl image and often bad publicity are what i reckon what drove people away from The Pretty reckless.

Just a tip for those who'd like to listen to some of these artists' music, Grooveshark is brilliant. It allows you to stream music for free.

I'm listening to some of the artists' suggested in this thread.

Yeah. It took me a while to listen to TPR because of her image, it feels so forced.

I picked the album up having only heard Make Me Wanna Die and I think I'd heard Miss Nothing once. I bought it not really expecting to like it as much as I do.

In my opinion, it's a solid album.

Claire Maguire and V.V.Brown.
They are both really talented. I love 'last dance' and 'shark in the water'. Shame they can't get the popularity. It's a crime that people like Cher Lloyd get the spotlight. The music industry is not about the music anymore, more about someone's flipping image, or singing a couple of covers every saturday night.

Not So Successful pretty much summs up my entire music taste. At the moment, I'm pretty into:

Metronomy
Mini Viva
She & Him
Lenka
Foals
Annie
Kelis
Two Door Cinema Club
Lauren Pritchard
Nerina Pallot
Miles Kane

I could go on...

I also thought of Mumm-Ra when I compiled my list. They had real potential and reminded me of early Blur or House of Love - lots of energy and great tunes.

In the UK arguable but in the US she is very successful.

Anyway:

Gabrielle
VV Brown
John Legend
Jamie Woon
Robyn
Alesha Dixon
Sara Barailles
Mini Viva
Janelle Monae
Jamelia
Beverly Knight
Wonderland
Brandon Flowers as a solo artist isn't very successful sadly

Most artists aren't that successful so there's loads I could list but it always surprises me that Spoon are pretty much unknown in the UK. They're a well respected band (metacritic decided they were the most consistent band of the Noughties) with lots of good tunes but have never made the slightest impact on the UK and I don't think have even been on Jools Holland's show. Strange.
