Apple's market share fell by half in the last 12 months to 18%.
With Android already near 50% is it not just commercially barred apps that will be getting omitted from IOS?

IOS is still the big money earner in paid apps but they very much a minority.

Free iPhone apps are booming. Take a look at the App Store Top Grossing list - a huge number of the best sellers are free to play titles which have in-app purchase items.

Last week's Featured game was Tiny Tower by NimbleBit - free to play. Follow-up to their massive hit Pocket Frogs - also free to play. Free to play games with in app purchase items is a massively growing field. Helps combat piracy too.

Nonsence, the quality of free apps on the App store just keep getting better.

Also as grumpyoldbat said, if you look at top grossing 3 of the top 5 are free to play with optional in app purchases.

Also a lot of the free apps are ad-supported. I don't see them disappearing anytime soon.

there are already more free apps on the Android Market than Apple's app store.

Increasingly as market share changes, the free app developers are more likely to go to Android 1st. However, paid apps are significantly less successful on Android than Apple - there simply isn't a 'pay for apps' culture on Android at the moment, so 'big' developers are likely to stick with Apple.....and expect you to cough up.

I never see anyone moan about my Microsoft realism or 'bashing' however you want to word it.
.
Apple could certainly buy up stocks of the SF successor, the ZTE skate and flavour it with IOS. I just can't see Apple being happy at being a minor player.
If most of the money is in the ads then developers will certainly need more incentives to stay with IOS.

Apple never intends to be the most popular, look at the Market share for the Macs.

There is alot of profit making premium devices but none on making entry level. Even Steve jobs said that it's a race to the bottom and they don't want to be part of it when talking about computers, they will be the same with phones.

What??

Have you seen an apple keynote by Steve Jobs in recent years, He loves to crow about the size and popularity of Apple iphone /App Store sales in comparison with smaller producers/stores. He cant do it for Mac because Macs are a tiny minority.
