Never knew the taxi scenes are filmed first

I heard this and have been listening out over the series. What is said in the taxis is actually pretty generic if you pay attention and most of them could well have been first. I'm sure there was one the other week though that made reference to the task they'd just been fired for though which made me question whether it was correct or not. I can't remember which candidate it was though. Maybe Zoe?

Only the bit where they are walking from the building and into the taxi. The actual taxi ride is filmed after they are fired, for obvious reasons: they comment specifically on what happened in the boardroom!

Sometimes you can spot a slight change in attire/hair from the walking shot to the in taxi shot.

The walk from the building to the taxi is filmed prior to the series starting as the boardroom set isn't even in a Lord Alan building, but they have to make it appear as if the candidate is leaving a Lord Alan building after being fired from one of his boardrooms.

The in taxi shot is definitely filmed after the firing.

But how do they make sure clothes/hair are similar? They can wear a coat but you can see skirt/tights/shoes/trousers? Or are they told to wear similar stuff for the boardroom?

They always wear some kind of long coat in the taxi scene to cover up what they're wearing. Some of them wear the same thing for each boardroom (Zoe) & they all have to have the same hair for each br too.

I don't know if this applies to TA, but a TV researcher makes notes on a timecode log sheet during each filming day. TA researchers may consult those notes for continuity's sake, but I doubt it.

Notice that this series (and maybe the last) they have all taken to wearing scarves for the taxi scene.

Previously there were a lot of clues around the neck that they did not come straight from the BR to the taxi.

Slightly unrelated, but did anybody notice Ellie after she was fired? Instead of sitting on the seats outside like the fired candidate usually does, she left straight away, which made me predict the double firing.

How would she know?

We (i.e. regular readers of this forum) know very well that these scenes are not filmed in the strict chronological sequence that they are shown.

I often wonder if Sugar initially tells the fired candidates that they are going in a much quieter and more restrained manner before the dramatic pointing finger shot is filmed.

We have always laughed at the coats they wear after they have been fired, seemed pretentious, now we know why!!!

The show is actually filmed backwards. Most people don't know this.

The winner is hired in week one and then Sugar knows who to fire in all the remaining weeks because he's got the winner. When all the episodes are filmed they reverse the order and broadcast the last one they filmed first, which is now episode 1.

Neat, ain't it!

That's why Katie Hopkins wore that godawful white suit every boardroom.

Nope she's stuck in 1986 and thought it looked good on her, as did Paul Callaghan. Both were wrong

I also remember hearing that apparently the girl that tells the candidates to go into the boardroom isn't actually Alan Sugar's receptionist but a member of the BBC production team.

I guess you'll also be shocked to hear that the boardroom isn't a real boardroom & is only a set made for the show

And that also, the café has been closed for ages.

The original café was almost straight opposite Amstrad Tower (a 60s block and not really a tower at all) on the railway bridge in Brentwood. There used to be customers in there in the 'old days'.

Also, as mentioned above, Lord Alan doesn't hang out in Canary Wharf as all the 'flying over London' shots hint at.

Interesting thread, anyone got any other trivia to share?

When they go into a shop to buy/sell something, I assume they have to consult the shopkeeper first? Doesnt that take up time for the overall task?
