Sky News has vanished from my Freeview. My list goes from BBC News (81) to Russia Today (85). Keying in 82 manually results in "channel unavailable".

Did something happen? Google search reveals no recent changes.

On a possibly related note, the three main Italian channels RAI 1, 2 and 3 I used to have access to have gone "unavailable". All very odd.

Since when were RAI on Freeview?

Anyway check you are getting the other channels on the same MUX as Sky News. This page lists all the services...

http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/dtt_channels.html

If you still get analogue telly then use MUX C in the Pre DSO section otherwise use COM 5 in the Post DSO section. If none of the channels listed are available then you've lost that entire mux. If any or all of them are available then something else has happened.

Some boxes I've used can delete channels from the list so that even keying in the channel number manually does not find them. My TV on the other hand just hides them but you can still go to them if you know the channel number. If your box is one that deletes channels and/or the other channels on the mux are missing then doing a rescan may be the only way to get them back.

Thanks. I ultimately worked out how to do a digital and satellite retune via "settings".

The RAI channels aren't on Freeview, but I get them via the Hotbird satellite that my TV can tune into. I retuned both digi and sat. On digital, Sky News is still on 82 but now it shows OK(???), but the RAI channels, on satellite, have changed numbers completely. I thought they'd been removed, but they'd just shifted fully 400 numbers lower down. Bloody confusing, took some committed scrolling to find them.

When you tune a fta satellite box/TV, the channel numbers aren't part of the transmission. An epg provides the local channel numbers for Freesat Freeview or Sky. FTA access allocates channel numbers on a first scanned basis although unlike the previous you can edit them to anything you want.

Exactly the same transmission viewed on a Sky box and a Freeview box will have different local channel numbers.
