I rooted my Desire S, Don't want a custom ROM as none have the UMA built in (Orange ROM only) I've installed titanium back up, a screen shot app, what else can I do with a rooted phone?

Has someone has managed to root an s-on Desire S?

I suppose all you can do now is to use the phone as designed and when you come across an app you like that needs root access, you are sorted.

S-on can now be turned OFF and rooted using gingerbreak

Install Ad-Free Android and live a life free of the pervasive advertising that ruins pretty much every single app on the Market.

Is there a decent idiot proof step-by-step guide on how to S-Off then root then possibly change ROMs on the desire S.

I can only find bits and pieces of information instead of one comprehensive guide.

Rooted mine too. Guess we wait til a nice ROM (with UMA....that app is great) is developed. Thanks again unklesam.

Steve, along with the link unklesam provided, I also used this page.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/07...re-s-download/

And then to root using gingerbreak

The first link I posted also shows how to install Clockworkrecovery Mod is you want it.

Thanks for this. Am I right in thinking its best to factory reset the phone before trying any of this?

so lets get the thread back on track.

Surely the most obvious reason for rooting is to install custom ROMs?

Whats the best one?

I'm in 2minds about what to do with my desire S. I either want a plain old vanilla android rom with no extras or I want to try htc sense 3.0. Im leaning towards running a stock android rom but not sure yet.
