I was in the Trafford Centre yesterday with a mate of mine, hes on 02 im on Orange, and hes getting fed up that he cant get any 3g reception on his I phone 4, i told him its 02 as their 3g reception is very patchy, I have an i phone 4 as well and its fine on mine.

Anyway we went into one of the 2 02 stores in the centre, and he tried the i phone 4 that was on demo in their store, that phone did not have any 3g either, and then one of the people who works in the store came over, I asked him whats 02s 3g reception is like in the uk , he said 99 percent, i said dont you mean 2g , he said no 3g , he would not have it any other way, and then he showed me his phone which was an htc phone, he said "there you go i have g on my own" i said that is 2g, he said no htc phones dont show a 3g sign , I said yes they do or an H he said I was wrong, as his shop phone had never shown 3g as g is 3g on htc.

At that point we left the store , my mate got a pay as you go sim from Orange , we used a sim cutter he put it into his sim free I phone, and now he has 3g in a lot more places.

Also forgot to say I pointed out to the sales person that there was no 3g reception on the stores I phone 4 , he reset the phone and said that apple must be updating their I phone 4s, as thats why we could not get any 3g reception on it.

You cant make stuff up like this .

Stores have their own microcells, so that's very strange.

o2's 3g reception is very patchy compared to the other networks. My work phone is on o2 and it's ok in most towns but to be honest it's hopeless quite alot of the time.

My personal phone is on Tmobile and the coverage is far better.

I'm based in Bolton but work in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool and I find the opposite. My Orange phone has terrible 3G coverage whereas my O2 phone is fine...

My partner was looking at upgrading from his 3G to the 4 on Saturday night. Went online and spoke (online) to one of the gurus who linked us to the upgrades for o2 customers to the iPhone 4. £63 a month! before the phone became free! I asked the guy how o2 could justify it since orange did mine free for £45 and he advised that o2 has the best customer service and best reception. I couldn't believe it. With all the other mobile companies we found a better deal, vodafone would even do it on 18 months contract free at £46 a month! Needless to say he's now said goodbye to o2 and hello to Orange who will also let him upgrade 3 months early, unlike o2.

Capital freekin ohhh and then subscript two. not zero two, not lower case ohh two. But as subscript is difficult then O2 is OK.

Ohh two are named after the oxygen molecule. Not the zero freekin molecule. And all elements are represnted either by a single capital letter O, W, S or a capital followed by a lower case letter Na, Kr, Pu.

Zero zero zero. **** **** ****.

The thing is about the idiots who work in phone shops is that they are idiots who can only get jobs in phone shops. It can be quite funny/scary listening to the "advice" they give to the unwary customer who doesn't know about modern smart phones.

On Orange I have the HTC Hero but have also tried my SIM in my old TyTN 2 and ooooold SE w800i to check... reception is actually best in the old Sony but still not great.

Reception is much better all around on my Galaxy S on O2, especially at home. I now can't take calls on Orange at home... and I've called them about it etc etc...

Anyway we went into one of the 2 02 stores in the centre, ...
Two stores for one shopping centre really O2 ! really!

No if you need to ask advise from any mobile phone store your best bet is going into carphoneware house, they generaly have more genuine knowledge & are obliged not to favour any one network. So potentially more honest!

They been ok for me, i once went into one of their stores to get a Three pay&go phone. The guy asked if i was sure i wanted the phone on Three as the coverage is pretty poor locally (watford) & suggested vodafone or orange !?!?! The phone was out of stock anyway so left it.

You were right about the HTC thing though,

I have a HTC Desire on 02, and it either shows a g (for 2g) or a H (for HSDPA)

It occasionally shows 3g, but rarely, mostly it shows a H
