I was no fan of Natasha's, but I felt a bit sorry for her on YF last night - Dara's normally very good at making sure everyone is included in the discussion, particuarly the fired candidate, but as the programme went on Natasha looked more and more isolated stuck on the end of the panel while Dara often had his body turned away from her towards the three guests. There was the moment when the panel had fixated on the airline feel of Helen and Tom's restaurant - Natasha, off camera, tried to join in with a few comments about how well-turned out Helen always is, but no one turned to her to include her in the converstaion.
Of course, I know that the YF programme goes on for much longer than we see aired, and of course things moved around and edited to make them fit the half hour, but during the second half of what we saw it just seemed as if Natasha was more of a spectator than a participant on what should have been her moment to shine on her own. Some of the panel did have a lot to say, but it's not about them - Dara's job is to make sure it all flows as smoothly and fairly as it can so that we find out a bit more about the candidate and some of the bits we didn't see in the main programme with everything in balance. As I say, he's usually brilliant at that, and usually keeps just the right tone of gentle teasing humour without being cruel, but last night didn't seem like Natasha's night.
As for the main show, I enjoyed last night's instalment - quite enjoyed the cringe-making awfulness of everyone's general knowledge! Jim floundered a bit with his figures and showed a chink in his usually perfect armour. I'm afraid I'm with those who find Jim a too bit slimy as a character, though. I like Tom, I like his slightly off-the-wall approach to things, and I do think that what you see is pretty much what you get with him (no 'dark undercurrents there I don't think!). As someone else said earlier on this thread Tom always has pages and pages of ideas, of which only one needs to 'fly' if he wins the process. I also like Susie (don't shoot me!) because despite her youth, and her still very gauche and naive approach to handling other adults, I think really does have the drive and determination to make a business work (she's already done that bit) yet will still be a bit of a 'blank canvas' for LS to work with - if he can stand working with her! I think Susie means it when she says LS's opinion of her is the only one she cares about - I think she would try to listen to his advice as well as pushing her own ideas. As for Helen, well she doesn't really do anything for me - too good, too perfect, probably a really safe bet when the chips are down, but I'd rather seem someone who still needs some moulding in life get win, which I suppose takes me back to Susie.
Well, whoever wins, we only have to wait until Sunday now!
