Not at the moment, I have limited space and I'm not allowed to run wires everywhere. I'm wanting to plug my boxee box and xbox into it.

My brother has that system and it's very good for the money. It can also be upgraded to 5.1 in the future if you wish.

Don't worry about the wattage. It's not an accurate guide to power. Unless you want club-like levels of sound then the Onkyo will blow your socks off.

As Chris says the sound is loud enough and pretty good quality and it's also a vast improvement over the sound from the TV speakers.

![]() Most of the power in a 5.1 system is required by the bass speaker which are usually active and have their own amplifier anyway. In days of yore one of the more respected amplifiers was the leak 30 (2 x 15W) but then speakers were larger and more efficient. |

It's all well and good looking at speaker packages but what do you do with them? Where do you plug them into?

wildmovieguy, if you are referring to the Onkyo kit then the bass speaker contains the amp and speaker connections.
The more usual way with speaker kits is to have an AV amp; this provides the power for the 5 smaller speakers and a signal connection for the sub which has it's own amp built in. There are exceptions of course, but they're mostly variations on the two themes outlined here.

If you are referring to the post in this thread it includes a built in AV amplifier which logically you would plug them into ![]() The 50W refers to the amplifier continous RMS output power. |

Oh ok then. I thought it was just the speakers on their own. A lot of people tend to buy all in ones but they're no use if you already own a DVD player or a blu ray player. I know a lot of people use amplifiers and just plug the speakers into them. With me having a PS3 that is the route i would need to go down. I already have an amplifier in another room for my sound system there so i know how much these things can cost and when you add the price of speakers on top of that it would just end up being too much money for me. The OP is obviously on a budget so there are lots more things suitable for them than the one in the link.

Quote On the back of the subwoofer is a generous selection of sockets. Most significantly, you get three HDMI inputs, all of which are specified as v1.4 and therefore support 3D signals (which are passed on to your TV by the HDMI output) as well as the Audio Return Channel feature, which means there really is no excuse for putting up with those awful flatpanel TV speakers. These are joined by three digital audio inputs (two optical and one coaxial) plus two analogue stereo inputs and a port for Onkyo’s RI (Remote Interactive) function, which allows certain functions to be controlled from other Onkyo devices It's not an all in one it's a compact AV amp and speakers for a very reasonable price. |
