"Caraca's"
In Arcadia Ego
13-07-2011
"What does 'el' mean?"
"Was Byron a contemporary of Shakespeare?"
"Columbus was British."

This stuff must be scripted, surely?

A better name would have been Mexican Standoff.

I could almost forgive them for not having these various pieces of knowledge in their repertoire. The big issue is the fact that they weren't sufficiently critical in their approach to actually check the things they were not 100% sure about.

We had a teacher at school who used to insist that education was "not just about knowing what you know, it's about knowing what you don't know". A headache-inducing maxim, but a true one. They should have stopped and done their research if they had even the teensiest bit of doubt. Gah.

The fact they chose to do Mexican food when they knew nothing about Mexico or it's food was equally troubling.

Every second of every episode is scripted intensley and the eventual winner was hand picked months and months ago.

I did wonder why they didn't just phone a Mexican restaurant just to run a few names past them, just in case they had inadvertently picked a swear word or something!!!

.. and my favourite of the night : "was Bryon a vegetarian"?

Tom's mother (I think) said he was dyslexic and that was why he found his niche in maths-based subjects.

I wouldn't want him on my quiz team on that performance.

Why the ?

According to vegetarian websites It appears he was a vegetarian. If someone on the team knew that, it's pretty impressive in my book.

Ok, I did not know that.

Tom did phase it in terms of a question : "Was Byron a vegetarian?" and going by his other gems - "Columbus was British" etc I thought he had erred on that one too.

That'll teach me

My friend is dyselxic and is about as good at maths as I am, (we were in the same class at GCSE and my maths is pretty average). After a doc I saw on Dyslexia, I asked her if she deemed herself to be creative and she said yes but only on account of her cooking. She doesn't have a problem reading either. So it seems Dyslexia can or can't interfere with such things relating to maths, language or other dependant on the person. By the way I'm just speaking out loud in general, I'm just using your dyslexic comment in which to digress.
