Who really won the task...Tom or Helen?

I was surprised by Tom, after the embarassing opening "I am happy to be managed by you"....I think he did good, but was that because Helen is an uber-Project Manager?

I honestly believe it was both. Helen is like the control that Tom needs. Tom came up with everything that won the task, but without Helen, I think that Tom would have gotten carried away. He's known for doing this; losing focus with the task, and being inventor Tom, the hindsight man.

They just seem to be a very good team to me. I'll give most credit to Tom, but Helen ultimately had to make the choices, and tried to firmly solidify her place. Without Helen, it wouldn't have worked as well. That's my take.

He ambled through the concept failing history for 10 year olds. She won with the decision to go for quality. They knew their profit margins - we don't know who worked those out but Helen knew them.

I think they were a brilliant team. Both had strengths and complimented each other very well. A great victory!

Good Points. I think it ultimately weakens his chances, he comes across a diligent and clever worker, but a worker nonetheless

Natasha on YF is attributing Logic's business projection to Tom, which is quite surprising.

Tom has been the number cruncher on most of the tasks.

Tom did the stuff that got noticed; building the brand, setting the design, creating the idea.

Helen, to her credit, covered the stuff that the other team didn't, she knew the margins and the business side which opened up considerations about the long term future of the enterprise.

I didn't much like her in the boardroom though.

It's all on his infamous notepad. Which will be on ebay in a couple of weeks.

Don't know who worked the P&L plan, but the crux of fast food is FAST preparation and high turnover. Quality steak pie fits the bill beautifully, as fast as fish and chips if not faster.

Helen's idea, 10 out of 10. Actually 10 wins from 11. If they had come up with the idea of British vegetable pie in summer then 11 marks out of 10.

Helen, Helen, Helen, she is home and dried. .

Like most weeks, I have no idea what Helen's role actually is.

Tom won the task.

In all rights, Helen should win.

edited to add - I ADORE Tom! He reminds me a bit of musician Mark Hart.

I think the key point here is that running a business requires multiple skills.

You have three key phases, design, manufacturing/procurement and sales/marketing processes.

A company with Tom leading the design, Helen leading the manufacturing/procurement (and overseeing as a general manager) and Jim leading the sale/marketing would be a pretty good bet - I'd put my life savings in that company.

i think helen's attention to detail made those pies look so cute! I think they both contributed fairly, at least from the edit. she was mean in the boardroom though.

I thought Tom and Helen worked well together. Its hard to say who won the task. But if I ahd to make a guess I would say Helen

Good team though tom and helen
Tom good with the figures and helen good organiser and manager

I would have to back that comment strongly, and I'd put everything I own into that idea too. Though Sralan is only asking for one person, and he would be (I think?) a 50/50 split with them at the cost of £250k. That changes things. His decision would likely be based on who would (or has demonstrated to) bring either the best combination of a few extremely strong skills, or a number of strong skills to partner with him.

I don't think either would have won without the other, so they both did. If Helen had Susan & Natasha on branding, or Tom had Jim making the food, it could easily have been a different result. Although if the teams were like that, I think Tom would have had the edge.

I loved that the editing wasn't able to disguise the fact that they were going to win - they were incredibly competent, Columbus aside.

It means who wins depends on what element he wants.

If he thinks he needs innovation then Tom will win.
If he wants a complete package, Helen will win.
If we wants someone to steamroller a concept through to buyers, Jim will win.
If he wants a long game and is willing to wait for Susan to learn, she will win.

My instinct is that the final episode turns into Dragon's Den and the best business plan wins, and that will be either Tom's unrealised idea, or Helen's professional package. I doubt Jim has the idea/professional delivery or that he is willing to babysit Susan for 3 years.

But if he wants a blockbuster ending, then he would hire them all to deliver the winning idea as a team, to make a point that businesses are not down to individuals as much as a collection of skills - which the final contestants have a diverse spread of.

Yes, I think that once again Tom came over as being a real wimp in not want to be the PM. He always shys away from it and has only been PM when Sir Alan as made him! I think that Helen could have won it on her own, although Tom did work hard doing the food in the kitchen but most of the ideas were from Helen. Helens only downfall could be how smug she is in the boardroom and it will be very interesting how the interviews go on Sunday. I thought that Tom looked the most stressed in the snippets that we saw! Maybe he has told a lot of porkies! Can't wait for Sunday and the final!

It was a team effort, but I feel Tom wouldn't have won if it weren't for Helen keeping him in check, but Helen could have won without Tom
