It's probably better than the majority of the UK's population though - you can write off the custom of intellectuals and still make a lot of money - NOTW anyone?

That was hilariously cringeworthy!

It was "Caraca's", though, not "Caracas". So the idea is it's a restaurant belonging to someone called Caraca, which does sound Mexican in a generic kind of way. Okay, it's a bit arbitrary, but I think the apostrophe saved it from being a total clanger.

And Jim's been good at mental arithmetic in previous episodes, and was a victim of nerves here. Wouldn't condemn him for that one.

The Columbus and "el" incidents were worse.

That's what you get if you let someone like Murdoch keeps you in the dark by feeding you with endless gossips, tits & football.

I'm guessing Susan isn't interested in at least two out of those.

Columbus was worse because they actually published it on their placard. Whilst some of the silliness this series has been likely due to being unable to google, if it's in the brainstorming stage, it's not actually a big deal at all.

The worst was not that he got the arithmetic wrong, but he showed he hadn't bothered to work out the revenue and margins at all. Under pressure and with no ready answer the simplest calculation was impossible.

He said Caracas over the phone and they added the apostrophe when deciding on the graphics (peppers or sombrero). They never mentioned pretending it was a person, just that it sounded like Maracas. I guess they decided to turn it into a person to give it a more friendly feel and history (surprised they didn't make up a bogus history about Mr Caraca coming over to the UK to start a Mexican fast food outlet).

Regarding the 60 x 7 = 4800 thing, was anyone here also realising the fact that a fast food restaurant making £420 in 2 hours would be a failure?

No. Not until they told me on the YF show.

I realised it. £420 was just the turnover, not profit, and they were talking about the busiest part of the day. Considering the rent for such a place in central London, raw materials, wages and countless other overheads it was a very low figure.

One thing that impressed me about Natasha though was that she upsold some Tacos to Lord Sugar.

I suspect these candidates are a result of the education system making pupils pick either geography OR history. In my day you did both because they were major subjects on the curriculm.
But to get to the age thirty never having known about Sir Walter Raleigh, what a cloche is or learned capital cities (Venezuela is not a new country) is shocking.
There is no way I am smarter or more confident than those candidates but I do think I had a better education and hunger for knowledge. I wonder if Susan and Jim knew.

I suspect they were too busy dribbling over EE or reading HEAT to pick up a history book or notice a map of South America.

But not know by the age of 21 is just dumb.

When they asked him how many people he expected to serve an hour and he answered '60 ...... in two hours' I laughed out loud.

Not only had he changed the question but he appears to believe that he was running an A lá Carte restaurant. Then again, they did have greeters and waitresses so ....

Jim really was out of his depth. Early on he called fajitas 'fisheaters' i hadn't a clue what he was talking about until they all started to mention Mexican dishes.

I also liked "William Drake" - I'm assuming they meant Francis Drake? (whose middle name was - ironically - Willliam).

Let's not forget "Was Byron writing at the same time as Shakespeare" gem as well.

They couldn't have got it more wrong if they'd have said Byron discovered the potato for Italy (being a vegetarian and all) and Columbus was a writer at the same time as "William" Drake.

The people who taught them at school must have been watching with their heads in their hands.
