I'm new to smartphones and Android. Just got myself an HTC Wildfire S and am trying to improve battery life by not using unnecessary features. Is it necessary to automatically snyc HTC Sense and HTC Sync or can I turn that feature off?

I found something on the XDA forums the other day. Apparently it doubles your battery life, this method comes directly from HTC, but it was talking about the HTC Incredible, people on the XDA forums have reported it works on the EVO and Desire S:

"To also help with Battery Life you can do these steps exactly:
1) Turn your device ON and Charge the device for 8 hours or more
2) Unplug the device and Turn the phone OFF and charge for 1 hour
3) Unplug the device Turn ON wait 2 minutes and Turn OFF and charge for another hour.
Your battery life should almost double, we have tested this on our devices and other agents have seen a major difference as well."

Very interesting although I have also heard that it does a Holly on the battery i.e. it expands the capacity, but contracts the life expectancy of the battery.

Yes it does work, I have done it.
Even if the battery life is reduced, well it's less than a tenner, so worth it for the benefit.

Do you only have to do this process once or every time you charge?

I have done it once about 3 months ago. I did read a suggestion on the xda forum that it might need repeating but I have not needed to so far (recharging about every 1.5 days)
