Samsung HT-D5100 Blu-ray "Mode Not Supported" Error
I have the above system connected to a Samsung UE46D6530. I'm using Anynet+. I got this about five weeks ago and it's all been working until now.
Then I went to put in a blu-ray. This normally auto-switches to the home theatre setting on HDMI but instead I just get a message saying "Mode Not Supported, The Resolution is not supported on this TV. Please change the resolution." The disc will play but sound only, no picture. This was all working last night and I've not changed anything. I've tried switching off and on. I also tried turning off Anynet+ on the TV and turning it back on. I can't do anything on the home theatre system because it won't let me bring up the menu. Any ideas? |

Start off with a basic video connection to get around the HDMI problem. I think your HT kit has a composite video output (yellow connector). Hook that up to the TV so you can see he onscreen menus.
Once you have the OSD working then change the resolution down to 720p and try the HDMI connection again. |

I've now handed it in for repairs under warranty after calling a technician out (courtesy of John Lewis). I did mention your suggestion but he said it's best if they just take a look at it.
So back to my old DVD player and no cinema sound for now. Can't play any Blu-rays but I don't own any yet. They've all been rental so far.I wonder what causes it to get into tis non-communicating state though? Presumably it should never happen. |

HDMI: High-Definition Multimedia Interface.
In the trade we have an alternative for that acronym: Hardly Developed Mostly Intermittent

It worked fine if I switched off the 24p option but it would still flash 'mode not supported' if I tried to access the online content. Samsung support were hopeless & in the end the problem was solved by using a cheap hdmi cable from amazon. try another cable if you can |

So my original player was probably fine all along.I Googled BD Wise. Found this. Samsung Support on BD Wise http://bit.ly/rdAkNq Specifically: 'Sometimes when this features is attempting to communicate depending on the length of the cable and other factors this "Talk" time may become to long and the time out. If this happens the TV may display "Mode not Supported" or no picture at all. If this happens set this feature to off, or replace your HDMI cable.' The grammar leaves a bit to be desired but it appears that BD Wise must have kicked in while I was watching a DVD and auto-adjusted the resolution down to something incompatible such that the next time I switched on the player it registered an incompatible mode. My guess is that this happened while watching an extra feature on a Blu-ray disk. E.g., while the main feature is in HD, the extras aren't necessarily. Anyway, it seems that the safest thing is to set BD Wise to off permanently. Googling suggests that many think BD Wise is not offering much anyway or you're better off with it set to Off. Samsung need to put this in their FAQ/Troubleshooting in the product manuals. |
