I used to when I was younger, I had a fast metabolism that I do now and a bottomless pit for a stomach. Now I actually get full so its twelve inches for me now. I don't eat them often mind and I do have to be really hungry otherwise I leave a slice or two.

Yep.

It's excessive but sometimes I'm just starving!

Usually not in one sitting, but certainly between dinner around 8, then going to bed by 2. Only ever at weekends because I know during week I'd feel uncomfortable the next day if I've rammed it down before usual bed time.

Our local Italian serve 12" pizzas and don't allow sharing. I'm always amazed how many people eat a starter, a pizza, garlic bread and a dessert! I could just about manage half a pizza and I'd have to have some salad and maybe coleslaw to help it down!

I've managed two large pizza;s in a day before when it was buy one, get one free and that was with sides.

My mate went to pizza hut for the lunch time buffet and got into a eating contest. 3 of them managed 20 slices each and my mate won with 23 slices.

BTW, don't even dare lookup how many calories in a 16" pizza.

Sheffield Zulu's American Football team in the early 90's used to all go on a Wednesday night for an all you can eat pizza session. Several of us managed over 30 slices (I was 'capped' at 33) but the most anyone managed was 48. And he eat pasta with it too! He was also not fat or that large, just clearly had a massive metabolism.

Never- but then I am a Pizza purist and get tetchy about anything other than mozarella & tomatoes on a pizza. Never will I eat garlic bread with a pizza though- thats almost as bad as eating bread with pasta!

Why don't they allow sharing? That just seems weird to me, what if your date or whatever looked over and said "mmmm that looks nice can I try a bit." Would they frog march you out of the building.

Is there a sign up somewhere

No Sharing
No Running
And No Petting!!

It's just a line on the menu and it's to prevent cheapskates coming in and sharing one pizza or one lasagne between them. It's not huge or a chain so it's important to them to have maximum use and, therefore, profit, from every table. Of course they don't object to tasting your fellow diners food or to sharing side dishes. I think it's quite reasonable as it keeps it's status as a 'proper' restaurant rather than somewhere for kids to hang around in. You know, the sort who might need to be told 'no petting' in a restaurant!

In my student days after a night on the ale my friend and I would go get an 18 inch pizza each with different toppings on. Back to the flat, swap halves, and eat the whole thing often in one sitting although sometimes it needed two. I doubt I could even eat a half now. Makes me sick thinking about it, especially as one of our pizzas would often be donner meat covered in garlic sauce....boke!

I once had a 16" or even bigger pizza that was so paper thin, with such a smear of scorched toppings, that you could fold it over three times and then it became a normal sized wedge of tastiness!

I guess it depends on the thickness of the dough and toppings!

I don't know how big they are at Di Matteo in Naples, but I had no trouble whatsoever putting the whole thing away. I felt I was justified seeing as I was doing a lot of walking and I was in the birthplace of pizza. I ate a cannolo too. You only live once.
