ImaPlum - I'm still rooting for you. Everything is still crossed. Oh and about the puppies , good grief I think I would be tempted to pay to see rotti /kelpie cross pups. I hope your wee step son and his partner have loads of time and energy to give to them.

batgirl - Lots of wraps in the shawl are being sent from me to you. If I try say any more I'll start to cry. Some things can hit very close to home.

Amica - I'm interested in this Storage thing even though I only have one and a half teens now. Do you think young adult children and 20 something ones could be accommodated? This could go global. Invest now.

Oh and My Goodness - What Did I Start when I bought a £9.99 glass shelf from Aldi?

I started a fury of activity from Himself "doing" the downstairs loo. I thought the shelf would be ideal above the basin and below the mirror that Big Ben uses to put his contacts in. The shelf was almost wider than the basin it was supposed to hang above. This was not a problem. Himself decided to cut the shelf in two. Short version is - didn't work. The glass shelf broke in the wrong way. So... he has gutted the downstairs bathroom, plastered walls, and is now going to lining paper the walls now the plaster has dried out.

It get worse or better...

I may have been banjaxed

In the last day I(we) have spent almost all our savings on a new bathroom. We have ordered and paid for a new bath, basin and thingie, toilet and cistern and bath panel. Wall and floor tiles. shower screen thingie and still need to get the taps and waste thingies. It isn't a pay and walk with bath room suite @ £299 - it cost so much I can't believe but.... We've been here 20 years and I don't think we (himself and I) are going anywhere else soon. Our bathroom is going to be so ****ing lush for at least 15 years.
I'm dead excited about having a really geet and dead posh bathroom come SeptemberThis House has been our home for 20 + years and it's only now we can afford to do stuff and we can actually have a nice looking home. Am I a normal mum or am I a freak?

Well I didn't get the job and I feel pretty shitty about it, not surprised but still ... If something good doesn't turn up soon then I'm not sure what we are going to do to be honest. Ahh well, life is tough the world over and as the song goes, "things can only get better.... "

Platitudes are no compensation during a run of bad luck, so I'll just say I'm rooting for you.

In your shoes I'd consider giving Mr PQ (alias PK???) a proper seeing-to, he sounds like a hero.

That is a shitty outcome Plumski chum. But don't give up. Give yourself a couple days off, then take a deep breath and start again. What kind of work are you looking for? Is there anything else you could do, stuff that might not be fantastic on paper but could turn out okay if you ended up working with nice people and on half-decent money?

Here, I've had a lovely day in one way and not a lovely day in another. We went to the cinema (and actually remembered that it's Orange Wednesday!), had some fab pizza out, I've great stuff planned for the evening involving crap TV (Dinner Date - omg, it's so bad it's good) and Lush... but I'm stressed out to the point of walking around with clenched fists. It's not good, is it...

Plummy, our whole soon-to-be-history office is going through all this. Rejection sucks. So does watching people get jobs - you wish them well of course but it hurts when it's you still looking. BG is right, a few days off and give it another go.

((((((((Plummie)))))))) - been there not so long ago and it's horrible, isn't it. Poor, poor you
batty and KJ are right, though - give yourself a couple of days, have a breathe - then gird up and get back in there. You nearly did it this time - the next one might be The One! ******sends a ton and a half of vibes*******

(((((((batty)))))) - keep on keeping on...

As for me - looking like the end of September for my hoperation. Radical hysterectomy, dump the whole lot is the plan ... it won't be pretty for a bit, but it should sort everything out and it does mean a lovely long time off work! And because it's a few weeks off we can get Melony settled into Foundation 1 at school, everything set up at home for Mr M and everything set up at my work so the little sods can't claim they didn't know what they had to do!

Sad - I don't really need to slow down - there's nothing much wrong with me except the swelly-up legs. I promise to be a really, really good girl after the op, pinky promise.

Oh Plumster You know what though - all this means is that the right job hasn't found you yet. And it will be out there somewhere. Deep breath and regroup as everyone else has said, and have the biggest of cyber-hugs.

Handy - - I love you for seeing the positives in all of this. I'd be a quivering wreck. Agree the timing is though - at least they're not stealing your summer hols Just keep your promise and take it easy, ok?

Batty... unclench, breathe, or if that fails, hit something. Go for a swim - that'll help

KJ - thinking of you and your office pals. Shite, innit.

PQ - you sound pretty normal to me... be afraid, be very afraid

SNoWy, Iggy, goshie, anyone else I left off the list above - wotcha

I'm cacking myself about the general anaesthetic, i hate them!
Apart from that, it's all about swallowing the pills and doing as I'm told. As my phlegmatic Eastern European consultant so neatly put it: "Surgery is surgery. I will disable you, and then you will recover." And after all the panic about what I *might* have, knowing that what I've got is (a) not dangerous in itself and (b) fixable is a huuuuuuuuge relief!

Today has been very domestic - cleaning up the kitchen, trip to the recycling centre, shopping, entertaining toddler during the course of the above. Fortunately for my sanity tomorrow is a childminder day and we're going to see Harry Potter at long last! Yay! \o/

I'd be cacking myself too handy, but you're so right about both (a) and (b). And I love the sound of your Eastern European. You're clearly in excellent hands.

If it helps to know things could be much worse

Spoiler

With luck you'll be off your face on the stuff they give alongside the general anaesthetic - I think I had pethedine for my radical op.

Owch, KJ!

Going under is horrible. Coming round not so bad, then I usually get a euphoric period where I giggle a lot and feel great. Then I have a comedown...

Ach, to hell. It'll all be done and sorted soon enough, and I'll only have to wait a couple of weeks till I'm well enough to enjoy being off!

Well, your Jodi Foster thread's had no takers so far. I could've posted, of course, but I'm guessing you'd prefer a clean score card...

Me, I kind of hurt all over and feel a bit sick. It's either a bug or, more likely, stress with bells on. You're probably right Sad, about the swim, but I've had no time again. One of these weeks I'll tell the world to eff off and float around, read, and drink PG as the mood takes me. When I do, feel free to join in...

Bed. Now. And stay there with a good book and get the menfolk to wait on you hand and foot tomorrow. And if it's not gone by Monday, or gets any worse, see a doctor.

The above are orders, non-negotiable... don't make me drive up there

Billy - fire away. Gender isn't defined by the size (or appearance) of your chest

Go for it Billy - Us Grumpies recognise the rights of Grumps no matter what or who they they are or even what they may be. If you are pissed off and need to let it all out. This is the place to be. We don't care if you are female - you got a grump - let it flow...

Batty - Sad's right.
Time to put yourself first for a few days - and I'm closer than she is, missus, so watch it, right?
(((((((((((((huggle)))))))))))))))))
