Vibes to family Melon - when is handy due home?

Kitchen nears the end of the 6th week - is it finished no!
Am I happy - no?

Last week I almost combusted when Mr. Head Honcho pulled the kitchen fitter off my job to rip out someone else's kitchen. I couldn't believe how unbelievably rude and arrogant he was when I phoned - bearing in mind that he's probably hoping for a future recommendation. He didn't get away with it - and furthermore I emailed him, just to ensure he fully understood my exasperation.

Oh my - did he eat humble pie. Apparently it's all to do with the recession, after employing 13 people 4 years ago his staff is now down to 1 and a half. He had to lay his daughter off and reduce his son's hours. sob sob. 5 other kitchen fitters have opened in the last 2 or 3 years and competition is fierce. sob sob. In my rely I pointed out that if business is so bad there is no reason why he and his part time son are unable to lift the phone and ensure that not only are all materials/components/appliances ordered but also that I am kept fully in the picture.

He accepted their shortcomings but after telling me that had I appointed Kitchen Direct I would have lost all my money (have they gone to the wall?) went on to remind me of my 'experience' with Kuchenhaus and then exhorted me to smile and think about the wonderful kitchen I did choose and all the good reasons why!!

The message seemed to be - "yes we are dire, but some are worse."

I am still awaiting the arrival of the final door (two of the wrong size have been delivered and returned) and once that has happened I'll be sorely tempted to call in someone else to finalise the job and deduct the cost from the retainer.

It's not a small kitchen but nor do I live in Tatton Park!

Have just had a phone call to say that delivery from the manufacturers is Tuesday only - so yes 7 weeks on this job is practically guaranteed.

Why other problems cannot be addressed in the meantime is anyone's guess.

Can you still cook in the meantime? I hope so. Think you need to have a kitchen opening party to celebrate when it's finished- hopefully this year!

Hellooooooooo!

Am back, back, back - Mr M exhausted, Melony coping fine

Thanks sooooo much for hugs and vibes and support for us all; much, much appreciated! ((((((GOWs))))))))

Have classy big horizontal scar with nice bruise just starting to come up; will be glorious shade of purple and blue by end of weekend. Otherwise am fully functional, in a shuffle-about-and-sit-on-the-sofa-lots kind of a way.

Back later to hear some news fromt he rest of you!

(((((((((Iggy)))))))) - been there with house alterations and it's so frustrating! Truly feel for you!

Welcome back.

Be v. careful not to get up too quickly from that sofa; I nearly did for myself after a similar area operation (but smaller scar) thinking I could go to the loo unaided.

I am about to visit the off-licence.

I am the lucky GOW. Himself rushed me off to a narrow boat again. We had 4 days of nothing. It was great. We had such a good time just ourselves.

A week later and we have the news that Himself has no job.

The next day after that we get the news that he is a Great Uncle
