Hell's teeth, bats, not snow - we're not that desperate!

I took my sick-note in to work today and tried really hard not to look smug at the thought of another eight weeks off. I failed...

I'm hopeless! Only just put my Kindle on charge - I've had the lurgey for the last few days and it's put me right off reading so I thought I would wait til my brain fog cleared a bit before playing with it. Wish it would hurry up and charge so I can play with it properly - I know you can use it whilst it's charging but I want to be wire free ...... I know I know, it;s all want want want with me

Not much happening here beyond me feeling disproportionately sorry for myself - I think therefore that it's actually man-flu - no disrespect KJ Just seems unfair to me that when I'm sick I still have to carry on as usual - I don't get to be a wilting lily and drape myself across the couch and refuse to do anything - pffffffffft!! I want to wilt dammit!!

It's starting to get hot here too, up in the 30s although not today as there was a nice breeze! It's nearly 7pm though and it's still 27C.

I still find the seasons all wrong here, school is starting to get to the end of year wind down and it's getting hotter yet they are doing Xmas preparations, nativity play stuff .... it's weird!

Anyway, hope all are well ..... enjoy your extra weeks of handy, but I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that!

Big hugs to you Laura ... I think of you often. You're a strong lady and quite an inspiration on the quiet!

Lovely to know you're keeping on keeping on LL, and Plummie, just lovely to hear your updates

So, more pants this week. D-day having been somewhat arse about face last week, we're assured that THIS week we'll know what we're 'consulting' on. Safe to say it won't be appealing on any level. I'd ask for vibes for Friday lunchtime but they keep changing their minds about what time... and in any case, we all know it's a done deal. [/rant]

I'm going for a shiatsu massage - at least that will make me feel more positive.

Hugs and vibes to you, laura. It's a long old road, but you're walking it with grace and good sense!

More hugs and vibes for Sad - for whenever needed and in whatever quantities...

And hugs and snogs to the rest of you!

Quet here atm - domesticking, sewing, reading, sleeping - and watching faaar too much crappy telly. Yay!
batgirl
17-11-2011
That's truly crappy Sad. I'm still going to send vibes tomorrow, just in case...

Not a lot to report from the batcave. I dunno... *sigh*... I suppose I can't wait for this year to be over. Maybe, as if by magic, once 2012 gets on the way things will become less complicated.

Well, maybe not when the year changes... but you know that they *will*, one day. And all this shall pass.

Well it's Friday here and I'm sending a head start on the Friday vibes ~~~~~~ to Sad. Hope that they man up and give you the news whatever it is - it's not fair to keep people dangling. Hopefully, it might not be as bad as you fear?. Thinking of you today anyway!

All is a bit meh and pffft and hurrumph here - so it could be worse Re kindle, I'm in a tricky situation of not having money to buy books for it, I have a pile of real books to read .... and the books I really really want, I want in paper form, just so I can complete the series on my bookshelves.... actually I don't have any bookshelves, but I do have imaginary ones, my books for now are all in piles I can't even buy shitty cheap bookcases here as MDF warps really quickly here because of the high humidity, so it's real wood or nothing, and I have gone in favour of "nothing" as one good thing about "nothing" is that it's free!

Anyway, I better shuffle off and stick a bomb under LittlePlum, who is hugely tall now, she'll be as tall as me in a year I reckon! Nearly time for school!

exactamundo! but we're unashamedly bonkers and that counts for something ... not sure what, but something!

I'm a tad tiddly this evening, I went out for lunch with the nightfill team, which turned out to be the two supervisors and the manager ..... and me! Was good though as it gave me a chance to see them as people rather than as evil witches on broomsticks ... Hopefully atmosphere at work might improve as a result, I'll find out tomorrow! til then, I'm a bit sleepy, a couple of glasses of wine, which probably double the amount I've drunk in the year to date I'm a lightweight now

Don't tell me - you couldn't wait for Friday so decided to stay up.

I'm sending vibes.

Plummy - you sound far too sober. Have another drink. And get yourself a shedload of free books for the Kindle while you're at it (might make for an interesting selection).

I've just come from the dreaded meeting with my delightful employers, who in their wisdom have decided to rid themselves of all their centrally employed advisory teachers. There are ten people in our particular team who now need to reconsider our futures... the council have propsed a 'restructured' team but none of us like the look of it much so one option might be to set up an independent service. Worst case scenario is that I'll be out of work at the end of the academic year - at least this means I get paid until the end of August - we'd feared Easter.

It's all pants but at least now it's all out in the open

That is pants indeed, but better to know the state of the pants than wonder. At least now you can start to take control of the situation and make your decisions as to what to do about it. Do you get on well with the other advisory teachers? Would you be able to get together without the bosses to discuss it all? or will it now be every man for themselves do you think?

For now though, I think relaxation is the thing to do while you absorb the info and implications and then you can start to work on your game plan.

I got woken up early because stupid husband stupidly didn't put stupid puppy to stupid bed so stupid puppy came marching into our stupid room and woke me up at stupid o'clock. I had to then get up and repair the scene of devastation in the rest of the house before she gets in trouble, and all because he couldn't be bothered to put her in LittlePlum's room before he went to bed, she's no bother if she's in there!! grrrrrr - ha! I'm getting good at this grumping malarkey

Batty, the only free books I seem to find are english classics and I'm not really in the mood for them at the moment. I downloaded Pride & Prejudice and Jane Eyre, I contemplated Thomas Hardy as I still have nightmares about not having read "Mayor of Casterbridge" and "Far from the Madding crowd" for A and O levels respectively, but then I thought life is too short to punish myself in this way Do you have any suggestions?

Plum, check out the feedbooks link I gave you, free stuff. Amazon do free books too. If your bookshelves warp, our books will liely go mouldy anyway, so get Kindling!

Tells us what you like, we can have a grumpy google for you.

(I bet she likes bodice rippers)

cheeky git!

I like a fair bit of variety, looking at my book heap over the last couple of years I've mainly been reading ...

Ian Rankin's Rebus books, I've read all of them now,
Kathy Reichs,
Robin Hobbs ( Farseer Trilogy and Tawny Man trilogy),
George R R Martin's Song of Ice and Fire books, just waiting for paperback version of the latest one,
Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next books and Nursery Crime books, I love his writing!
Ken Follett
CJ Sansom's Shardlake books
Bryce Courtenay - heaps of his books. Have any of you read the Power of One and Tandia? very interesting insight into apartheid in South Africa and very good stories too! the Australian Trilogy too is a great read.
Stephen Donaldson, the Thomas Covenant books - they're among my favourite reads ever
Stieg Larsson - Millennium trilogy
Tom Holt - few of his
Robert Rankin - a couple of his
Robert Goddard - a good few of his
Kate Morton - couple of hers...
Jeff Stelling - Jellyman's thrown a wobbly - happy memories of saturday afternoons!

That;s about as far back as I can see on my heap - who knows what lies beyond... ( not bodice rippers though )

Having said that, now I have a kindle I could have a secret collection .....

Sad, that sucks big hairy donkeys... but at least now you know, and you've got a few months to Make a Plan. Hugs and vibes to you ((((((hug)))))) and ~~~~~~~~~~>>>>>>>>

Plummie, a goodly list of books there! I specially approve of messrs Hobb, Martin and Fforde - three maestros of their craft.
Are you a Terry Pratchett fan?

I'm sitting in the car waiting for M to wake up so we can go into the supermarket for all the things we forgot to buy yesterday... *sigh*

The only thing slightly stopping it being absolute and utter pants Sad is that you've got a bit of a run up at the situation. I'm liking the idea of an "independent service" - is that a real goer?

Plummy - I've been Kindle book shopping this afternoon but I don't feel able to share what I've bought (all for .89p or less) because my selections are getting ever more and the more I get the more they suggest.

I can't resist a bargain. Yup, that's what it is.

I want to be a Terry Pratchett fan, but the only book of his that I have started was the Colour of Magic and I struggled to get into it, and now my copy is in UK so I've never tried again. That was before LittlePlum was born, so a good 9 or 10 years ago. I think I just wasn't in the right frame of mind at the time, I'm like that with books. I'll give them a go again but really I should read my real books first!

Having said that, yesterday afternoon I got the first No1 Ladies Detective Agency book for kindle and am thoroughly enjoying it! LittlePlum and I watched the series together recently. I think you recommended the books to me once before, well I think you did, and so you are getting the credit anyway, as you do for introducing me to Robin Hobbs.

That's the thing with the Kindle isn't it, you can read all sorts of books that you wouldn't be seen dead reading I may yet become a trash devotee

I could write some words for you snowy, if that would help. They'd probably be off topic but the offer is there Not sure why I typed "probably" as it really must be a "defintely" situation

RIP dead laptop. Bloody technology! There's a lot to be said for Luddites!

We spent $800 that we could only just afford to spend fixing the car .... only trouble is the "fixing" didn't happen. It's still breaking down every day, several times! Key is to be the first person to go out in it because then you stand a fighting chance of getting there and back. If you're second trip out, take a book and a drink Goes back into the garage tomorrow and we'll see what happens then! Hopefully not another $800

His early stuff is dire.

There are several series within the Discworld books, This one is the first of a series I like, read the reviews.

ALERT

I have a grump. It is so horrible I put it in spoilers.

Spoiler
F-ing Cliff Richard, Mistletoe and Wine, stuck in my head. Why? <sob>

For KJ - the least you deserve for that spoiler

I have to read a Terry Pratchett book for our book club thingy. Darned if I can recall what it's called, all I know is that it's not a Discworld one.
