I know Snowy ghost - it's pathetic but it was the best I could come up with as it's been so long since we or in this case I had the house to myself.
If we could be bothered and the opportunity arises again I might post that Himself and I will be writhing about in every room having passionate sex. Pixie Smirking- gave #3 a big red neck when I told her in front of her friends that Himself and I had road tested her new bed. Himself and I were hugely entertained and so were her friends. #3 was bright burny red and furious. p.s. Her new bed is great for bonking! Last edited by Pixie Queen : 29-07-2011 at 23:33. Guess that's one way to encourage her to leave home, PQ...

Evening, all
![]() We had the Night From Hell last night - all to bed later than we should have been, then M woke up at about 4am and took about half an hour to go back off. So everyone's been knackered all day, which means M has been a noisy looney, I've been very short-tempered and Mr M fell asleep in his dinner and had to go for a two-hour lie-down! ![]() However, we *did* manage a trip out and purchased, among other things, a purple basket for M's dirty washing which she's very pleased with - and so are we, cos she's more likely to put her clothes in it and not leave them scattered to the four winds. Start good habits young, says I

A meeting with an old friend left me a little disappointed and disillusioned.
Three years ago he and his wife were in pretty dire straits. Friend was made redundant and his wife hadn't undertaken paid employment since the birth of their 12 year old daughter. They'd lived life up to the max of their income, were (are) mortgaged up to the hilt and their daughter attends one of the best independent schools in the country.. They called on the advice of a mutual friend to ensure they received all the benefits they were entitled to and I helped them to create a workable budget; one that ensured they lived within their means, but allowed for a treat/night out now and again. Six months on and with no job offers on the horizon friend set up his own business and a further six months down the line his wife started a degree course at a good university. I admire both of them for taking control of their own future, so why am I disappointed? Because they spent most of the evening gloating about how little tax they paid last year; He runs his office from home and, like many others I know, thought it a matter of congratulation that they put everything possible through the books: all motor expenses – RFL, insurance, repairs, petrol etc: meals out (entertaining) phone bills (including top ups for daughters mobile) digital camera and laptop for daughter - depreciation can be charged to the p/l – and needless to say spares and accessories They think they can get away with charging all decorating and soft furnishing expenses to the office accounts - not to mention cleaning material, the daily help and the window cleaner. I could go on. Now I can claim to be au fait with the concepts and conventions of accountancy – in particular the concept of prudence – maximise expenses, minimise profit – but HMRC are not fools. I pointed out, gently I hope, that a good accountant does not put his/her reputation on the line by filing dodgy accounts. He/she will come to an agreement with HMRC as to the portion of expenses that can be considered busness or private My friend scoffed; clearly he thinks he's more clever than me – so I let him think so. The final straw was when his wife pointed out that she would not need to repay her student loan until her salary exceeds £21.000 and said she'll ensure she won't earn more than the repayment threshhold. I pointed out that if, in the bad times they were happy to take, then surely in the good times they should give. Silence reigned. |

Oooh, Iggy. Hope you're not the one filing the accounts
Does sound rather as though there's a mentality issue there which might explain their previous dire straits more fully than the straightforward matter of redundancy. Handy - I recommend getting Mr M involved with the local Scout troop PDQ. Think of the fun we can have when they go off for a week long jamboree together...

@ Ignazio - Good for you for you. I have known people in the past who have gloated about how they are making sure they don't have to "pay" as much Tax as they should. A few of them ignored advice and yes they did get caught out eventually. The last thing any self employed person or small business wants or needs is the Tax Man on their case.
@HandyMelon - The training to use the purple basket will work a treat till one day, years from now, Little M. will discover sky hooks. |

Good morning all
Chaos reigns supreme here! OH has had his work hours changed much to his annoyance and it means he starts at the same time as LittlePlum goes to school. This means he has to cycle to work now which in itself doesn't really bother him, but the trouble is that everyone is getting up at the same time. Also, we have a friend staying with us, he moved in last November for a few weeks til he sorted himself out and he hasn't quite left yet .... Anyway, he has finally got a job and he gets up at the same time too, so it's a potential madhouse... I'm just hiding from it all for a few minutes while LittlePlum gets dressed then it's back into the fray for me! Just call me coward - tis true ![]() Two more jobs to apply for this morning. I'm not holding out much hope, but I have to keep going. I think that is my problem, I have lost hope. Might have a look for it this morning - it might be in the shed a la Batty passport saga ![]() Ooopsy, must dash! I hear rumblings of dissent! |

Good luck Plummy - I think you've shown incredible strength during some very trying times. Don't lose hope now.
![]() On the subject of the friends you spoke about, I agree with KJ and admire your integrity and bottle in terms of voicing how you felt. Too often, it's just easy to keep quiet in the face of something that is plainly wrong. Quote:
You're up early (((((Plumster))))) I've found your hope, here it is *passes hope over internet* now go out there and knock 'em dead.
![]() (p.s. I do the hiding in the morning thing too. I queued for a little while before the awful realisation dawned upon me! Some things never change eh! It does make me wonder if things I wrote in my cv/resume are actually true, well organised, attention to detail etc.... it used to be true, will it ever be true again?!

Isn't odd how people who would come down like a ton of bricks on "benefit cheats" don't see tax evasion as a problem? Go get 'em, Iggy!
![]() We've had a day of picnics and ice-cream and it's been really lovely. Melony's musical likes now extend to "Boom Boom Pow" by the Black Eyed Peas and Robert Wyatt's cover of "I'm A Believer". Can you guess which track was Mr M's choice and which was mine? ![]() ((((((((Plummie))))))))) - keep that chin high, gal. ((((((anyone who feels the need of one cos I've got good karma going spare))))))) |
