How much are you paying Zoe? The bags for a £1 weigh 1kg in my local supermarket. The loose bananas are 85p per kilogram, so 15p cheaper.

the loose ones are weighed and priced... but the bags ones seem to go brown quicker. and have less taste..

I used to work in a banana ripening and distribution depot.

Some supermarkets had specific size and quality requirements but generally loose and packed bananas were the same. The best quality ones usually came from South America and next best from The Carribean. The ones from Africa, usually Cameroon sometimes varied in quality but really it was hard to tell the difference most of the time.

Personally I would choose Brazillian bananas when available.
