Guess who won Aberdeen, Dundee and Ayrshire Local TV channel.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-31964135

Alas it was the only way any of the channel could work.

Predictable - STV Dundee will be a basic simulcast of STV Glasgow with little content "locally" other than a chat show and news but will have archived programming of Scottish TV (STV) than Grampian I predict but please prove me wrong when these channels air and its also more money going into the STV pot .... One wonders will STV start getting their fingers out and produce half decent programming with the profits they'll now make with milking from their locals?

I see the Aberdeen station will be run by students at Robert Gordon Uni. Frankly with the incompetance of the 6 pm News on STV North will anyone notice the difference?

Possibly not but it gives STV more responsibility that if things go wrong they actually address the issues (ie tech faults and shabbiness of production) they do it or am I just holding out on hope on that one as I doubt the bosses at STV do care about us lot in this direction?

STV never bid for Inverness, the only company who did was rejected.

STV's regular staff run those channels and had also advertised for positions. AFAIK students may be runners or assist in some minor capacity. AFAIK there are no students controlling, filming, scheduling, etc. outright. It isn't like a hospital/local radio station run by volunteers.

Yet I thought that was the whole point of these "local" channels but I guess since its STV OFCOM basically gave them the OK stamp approval I guess?

STV Dundee news will be a laugh in a half really - STV News at Six will be basically the simulcast on the main channel (STV North and then the "split") as I can't see Dundee getting a full half hour bulletin - in a 5 min bulletin alone there is hardly anything you didn't know that you probably read up in other media and local paper. This is a disaster in the making I think - whilst the bosses at STV say profits are up and the like I do wonder what programming we are going to get for us on the other side of Scotland but I ain't holding my breath on that one!

On the plus side, they these channels have a better chance of survival under stv than maybe under others. Look at Inverness application, ambitious but with no infrastructure in place. Shame stv didnt bid there.

As well as that we will continue to hear the never ending saga of this lot making "profits" whilst at same time make 50p programming for STV as a whole - what does it take with this lot to actually make programming for Scotland/ITV network and selling it onto others?

The channels will be able to survive since STV will have more income coming but I doubt we will see any real changes be on their "local" network or STV itself - seems more STV is like ITV make money, make cheap shows and try and make the viewer have an IQ of a size of a peanut as its that dumbed down

But lets also remember where there is a boom there will be a bust soon but I doubt they see this coming....

What do we think they will call the magazine shows on the new channels.
I think Dundee could be called
Tayside show
Aberdeen I think could be sunnyhill show
Ayrshire I think could be Westside show

As someone who remembers the heydays of stv at Cowcaddens, it is a shame to see what it has become. I remember a local show every night. Remember ' Scottish Action' Whats your problem' 'Now you see it'. Unfortunately it doesnt have much studio space these days.

I believe the mag show for us will possibly be called "a view from the bridges" (yawn) and quite possibly who cares? Is that it for "local" and what guests shall we have? We found this drunk walking the streets lets haul him in for a chat

also mag show for Dundee could also be called the same as the STV Glasgow show "the riverside show" as well and how about the STV Glasgow show be renamed "the Clyde show" or is that a problem as Bauer operate Clyde in Glasgow and own that "name"

I like the old days of Grampian but to see what we are now part of is ashame and bosses in control need a grip than just think of profits/shareholders. I know ITV is scraping barrels whilst at same time is able to produce dramas for the network whereas STV have got "locals" going, websites etc are happily announcing profits yet they can't make half decent shows for Scotland let alone share with ITV and other networks its more of a disgrace than a cry for help. STV seems to spend or hardly invest in programming they make let alone in the past you knew there was "quality" in the programming ie Weirs Way but these days its dodgy sets and dodgy cameras yet we are now in HD these days and how the heck ITV/STV get away with cheaper programming in HD these days is laughable but again its scraping barrels for entertainment these days

I know the place well, bought a car from him once! Pretty random choice especially as Turriff would be outside the transmission area for the channel anyway, Might as well call it the Freds Burger van on the layby near Clatt Show.

I sometimes wonder about stv viewers mind and how it works.
