Doubt Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP would allow the English ITV take over STV, as it is seen as a Scottish owned broadcaster and its regional programming, which is dead on ITV in England, is seen as unique to Scotland even if a lot of it is cheap, parochial and repeated to death. Also might STV being part of ITV see the BBC dominate Scottish broadcasting too much?

Main STV OPT OUTS for Sat. 31st Oct-Fri. 6th Nov:-

Monday primetime (8pm) and STV continues with FINDING SCOTLAND'S REAL HEROES (2 of 5) whilst ITV airs COUNTRYWISE (3 of 8). Wednesday primetime (8pm) STV shows MR & MRS (5 of 8) while ITV is a week ahead and shows 6 of 8.

The "no show on STV" list now looks like this (original screening month on ITV as stated):-

COUNTRYWISE (parts 2-8, Oct/Nov), BRITAIN: AS SEEN ON ITV (Aug), SUPERHOSPITAL (June), WILD EXMOOR, BIG BOX LITTLE BOX, BRITAIN'S BUSIEST AIRPORT - HEATHROW (all May), WILD IRELAND (April & rptd. Aug), MORE TALES FROM NORTHUMBERLAND (parts 6-8, Feb), BARGING ROUND BRITAIN (Feb 2015), SECRETS FROM THE SKY (Nov 2014), HOTEL IN THE CLOUDS (1 off Nov & rptd. ITV3 Feb 2015).

It baffles me they can run Mr and Mrs ONE WEEK BEHIND but stuff the other shows and pretty much once "after midnight" is finished STV bails out with ITV Nightscreen til 5am, so in other words STV shuts up shop (for programming in general "after midnight") then puts Nightscreen on - so there is a gap they could air missed shows but because of excuse "audience ain't there" its the STV approach "we can't be bothered" or as the Catherine Tate character "see this face am I look bovvered?" at least a small credit with ITV is they'll either have a film/programme on then put Jackpot24/7 on then return with Loose Women and run nearly back to normal - seems a bit of a big difference there!

Looks like STV have dropped the right programmes going from that list.

People would complain if STV just ran the entire ITV schedule, and people would complain if they ran their own.

MR & MRS run was of course interrupted by STV's charity programme. It will be interesting to see what they do the week ITV starts something new at that time! Wll they drop the last one (no.8) or show it and be behind on something else?!

It's all about balance - after the fiasco of Whitechapel, Downton etc.. a few years back it tends to be other minor programming they would opt out of now, rather than big dramas and/or popular shows. Still, around 10 programmes/series haven't been shown in the last year alone, plus a couple of film premieres, and you would be irritated if you lived up here and there were no on screen announcements as to when a prog. is returning, or a prog. stopping and starting over a period of months and months (e.g. Cornwall)!

The list of "no shows" may seem trivial - I would argue that yes there may be a few in it not missed, but STV should have at least shown WILD IRELAND (due to the close Scottish/irish connections) and BARGING ROUND BRITAIN (given a canal in Scotland was featured one week!), MORE TALES FROM NORTHUMBERLAND in a complete run (why stop at 5?? ).

Also why suddenly stop COUNTRYWISE after 1 part? (again with no explanation of when it will be on again). I would be curious to know if anywhere in Scotland is featured in parts 2-8 and if STV intend to screen that?

The Mr and Mrs show - I am pretty sure this happened exactly last year stopped for one week resumed as normal and then followed ITV (+1 week behind)

For a channel such as STV to provide the lack of information of when programmes is going off for a while/no show is well shameful, if this was a US show on say E4/Sky 1 and no announcement people would kick off but give these channels due they do announce it and tell the viewer when it will return (roughly) but for a Scottish/UK channel that take the mick with hardly any announcement on no shows -- someone there must be having a laugh - I find it also weird if its one of STV's own programming ie Animal 999 they'll happily announce it (end of series) for it to return whenever but if its just an ITV show ie Countrywise its basically that approach of not caring about it - or will shuffle it around later. As regards to Countrywise and showing 1 episode before the STV Appeal started and not saying anything more says it all really - comes more across to as to why even air the first episode in the first place! Surprised they didn't just put on a random episode of Animal 999 instead (more likely of choice of repeat with STV)

Yes Kezo I think you're right about MR & MRS doing that last year.

STV must time it right for the Appeal each year to interrupt this programme and to resume as normal - yet weird when they have their own opt outs they put the ITV ones on after Scotland Tonight or as what has happened recently is pick a random programme and repeat it then "close"

Thing is that when STV even schedule their own programming its put on and dropped then returned ie Scotlands Murder Mysteries. I think the programme schedulers in reality have no idea on how to run a schedule and to keep in line with programming other than shuffle them around (no announcement of when and where to expect a return), as I mentioned to Mr Sirs another example for the ITV schedule is Countrywise, yes ITV is running as normal but why did STV air 1 episode before the STV Appeal and then decide to put in one of their opt out shows - they may as well in general never aired the 1st episode of Countrywise - the channel is a shambles, I only watch it in background but I rather stick to ITV if I am honest and opt out for STV News (that too is a complete mess for my area)

STF could almost fill their dead times with catch up of all the stuff they've missed from ITV which would and could be very useful to do.

Most Monday-Thursdays after Scotland Tonight ends at 11pm there is a window of opportunity to do this - i.e. start going through that "missed out" list above (which is not exhaustive). But there is neither the will or the inclination at STV as they would much rather squeeze in repeats and air After Midnight at well...just after midnight! If they cannot even complete runs of programmes in weekly order (e.g. Countrywise, More Tales From Northumberland) with no announcement of when the programme will return/next screening the viewers have no chance of seeing these other shows.

Your noticing this now? I been banging on about it for ages - they could fill that void to use as catch up and to put up on their STV Player but STV misses this trick completely as the excuse is "no audience is there"

I am more surprised STV acts this way but of course its the controllers/shareholders that have more of a say than let the viewers have to say but of course STV ignores it all and believes its in a magical fairyland where everything is wonderful

I rarely watch this show but can someone tell me why a report I believe it was on STV (North unit) was suddenly cut off? Report was about the recent trend in Whisky sales had gone up - reporter was speaking about it (no end to report) and then it was back to Rhona in studio? Again I ask if this is happening more regularly (I wonder how many times this has happened on Scotland Tonight), why have the STV North news at all? STV HQ do nothing about these issues (if this was a timing issue then surely they could make reports shorter?) No apologies was given as far as I could tell as when Rhona came back on screen she went onto next story (I know this is a regular thing for us in STV North its not much new but when are the bosses going to get those that run the North unit a kick up the ass? Its a joke but no one seems to care)

You would think STV would monitor its output from its key areas - I thought us in STV North are meant to be part of STV or are we not? I thought it was bad enough this happens at times on the STV News at 6 but for it to happen in Scotland Tonight (this is a new one)

So what happens if this sort of stuff happens when STV Aberdeen, Dundee launch is HQ going to step in and blame Gremlins?

As far as I took STV when Grampian merged I thought it was of a more networked station ie Grampian speaks to Scottish aka STV obviously there is miscommunication between them as it seems these problems are still happening - come on STV HQ get your finger out and sack people from STV North as I just can't take their news coverage seriously, just merge it all and come from Glasgow be alot better (anything is better than putting up with tech gaffes and sound issues (Dundee news studio) )

Prepare for another programme interruption: Stopping Scotlands Scammers is back is STV obsessed by using Scotland in anything they make outwith Animal 999 - did I read right at the weekend STV is airing "Scotland's City Safari" is this a zoo or they basically out in the streets of Glasgow/Edinburgh filming plonkers in punch ups - aah I see its an STV "local" programme I take it - I wonder if viewers for the programme will be groundbreaking or basically drop off the ceiling - I also see STV is showing My Life In Ten Pictures - so I am also to guess this meets up with their "local/regional" quota (irony content is fom the Glasgow/Edinburgh branch - not local to me!)

Oh its nice to see STV put on "the hangover" last night but I rather credit ITV on that one since when do we in the STV area get films on these days? Rare and far between

Those 2 programmes have been/are showing on Sunday mornings when ITV shows Murder She Wrote or Kyle. I didn't include them in the main opt out post I do as I tend to concentrate on primetime/main opt outs now.

I am bit surprised that if STV are bored to death of Murder She Wrote - they could have went with other 80's classics ie Knight Rider/Airwolf - a) it be different and b) its alternative to ITV but I guess they don't have the "money" to buy rights to these so instead opted for cheap shows from their "local" channels - oh well I guess on this plus side for STV they are meeting more for their "regional/local" quota (however it works)

The main STV OPT OUTS for Sat. 21st-Fri. 27th Nov are:-

The main OPT OUTS this week are on Monday primetime (8pm) when STV continues with FINDING SCOTLAND'S REAL HEROES (5 of 5) whilst ITV starts a new run of The Martin Lewis Money Show (1 of 10). Onto Tuesday and COUNTRYWISE returns to STV primetime (8pm) - that's 2 of 8! Then THE MARTIN LEWIS MONEY SHOW (1 of 10) follows. ITV shows 1 off documentary Emergency! Trains v Weather (which features the Glasgow - Carlisle line, but then that's "not relevant to Scotland" is it STV?! )

Moving onto Wednesday and MR & MRS lags 1 week behind ITV (7 of 8) on STV at 8pm.

So the "no show on STV" list expands again! (original screening month on ITV as stated) with now around a dozen or so programmes/series not shown or started and disappeared over the last 12 months - that's on average 1 a month! :-

EMERGENCY! TRAINS v WEATHER (Nov. 2015), COUNTRYWISE (parts 3-8, Oct/Nov), BRITAIN: AS SEEN ON ITV (Aug), SUPERHOSPITAL (June), WILD EXMOOR, BIG BOX LITTLE BOX, BRITAIN'S BUSIEST AIRPORT - HEATHROW (all May), WILD IRELAND (April & rptd. STV may as wel raise the white flag when it comes to scheduling - yearly its getting worse and not any better.

Again ITV seems to show "Scotland" yet STV's own take of programming is laughable/debatable - So this ITV programme which features Glasgow-Carlisle line (I think that line ends up in Newcastle actually (roughly saying as last time I visited Newcastle - First Scotrail had train departing and going up) ) STV can't be bothered with it? Irony is you will probably see CH4/5/SKY doing better programming for Scotland meanwhile STV is taking the mick but of course shareholders are more valuable than its viewers
