New Year's Eve night schedule:

ITV v STV

7:00 Ninja Warrior UK (7:30 on STV, preceded by You've Been Framed at 7:00)

8:00 Take Me out Celeb Special (Not on STV)

9:00 Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2 (8:30 on STV)

11:30 ITV News Special (Not on STV, which has News Review of the Year at 11:00 and pre-recorded Hogmanay show at 11:15)


What would happen on STV if there's a major breaking news event between 11:30 and midnight, i.e. terror attack, death of prominent member of the royal family? Would STV rejoin the network in that eventuality?

STV - actually opt out of a Celeb Special of Take Me Out? - I think STV may have chose the wrong show to miss out as is it not a show in general that pulls in alot of viewers (so if your in STVland wondering where this is you got no clue of when it will appear? Well done!)

If something was to happen on the feed on ITV - STV would hit panic stations cut the programme short probably without announcement and join ITV (thats if they could be bothered though)

I think Ofcom would cry foul if STV didn't transfer to the network feed in the event of a major news event.

I wonder if STV got special permission from Ofcom not to broadcast ITV News on New Year's Eve night.

ITN used to produce a separate bulletin for STV on New Year's Eve but hasn't done so since last year.

Perhaps they just found so few people watched that it was not worth bothering about.

Yet again Hogmanay on STV is very poor.
I can see why STV may want some out shows but again the line up is very poor and to yet again show a repeat of You've Been Framed is poor. The programme has now been over played. and its time to give You've Been Framed a rest for a few months.
Not even ITV is showing the programme on Hogmanay.
Will be BBC1 Scotland again for me this Hogmanay after I get in from being out for an hour or so in the evening.

The only time this year luckily was the US Election where STV carried ITV (yet I am sure STV themselves said they we're doing their own - but then again I read it on the STV site but I guess they had correspondents on standby for the site than STV itself)

I caught the ad - Poor Lorraine standing in the cold , why could they not advertise it within the Unicorn in Dundee??

STV has no balls to go LIVE at Hogmanay so go low budget yearly for its Hogmanay programming --- surprised for what STV announce yearly in profits they show little investment in its own programming? If STV invested more in its output then I would start defending the channel but for what it makes and comparing to its output it makes you wonder why make an effort in the first place?

And how many people will watch the STV Hogmanay show?

UTV used to have a New Year's Eve night show but gave up long before it was taken over by ITV.

Did STV actually have its own journalists in the US to report on the election?

Why didn't STV produce an hour-long pre-recorded news review of the year for broadcast at 8:00 that evening (the slot in which ITV will show the Take Me Out celeb special, which STV isn't showing)? It would get more viewers than Lorraine's pre-recorded Hogmanay show.

I agree with what you say as to why STV didn't do that instead but STV are just tight no matter what. I hardly watch Take Me Out anyway but I think STV have made a major error on that (even if its a Celeb special). It seems to me this year the scheduling at New Years is experimental but then again a repeat of You've Been Framed is really going to set the mood alight.

Meanwhile STV rolls out the carpet for Lorraine and the usual stars as per usual ... Sean Batty (an STV icon), John McKay another great...and Rhona another ... STV has not got much creative talent in that department either but you do have the option of pressing MUTE

Although Only An Excuse is an ok programme I agree I M Jolly repeats would be good.
STVs perecorded show is how poor STV is now becoming. I wonder how many will actually watch the whole programme.
Come on STV you could be doing better than this and also can you give repeats of You've Been Framed a rest for a few months.
At lest as said BBC1 Scotland has a live programme to take us to the bells.

I think it's a case of STV knowing they'll get humped. Any house I've visited had BBC on and I'm going back yonks.

I don't mind OAE of late as he's brought in new characters and ditched the like of Chick Young. It's more like a year round-up and not all football. They support plenty of comedies through the year anyway.

I sometimes watch Sky News for the fireworks and record BBC, or vice-versa. I remember going back that Sky News didn't have anything and was a Scottish only thing on TV. Seemed to change at the millennium.

I dont understand why STV dont do a very basic live show from the live @5 studio. 2 presenters e.g David and Jennifer from stv local and some bands and some guests in for a chat. With the fireworks shown at midnight from either london or somewhere in Scotland. Then more music and chat and finished by 12.30.

Who?? Names are irrelvant for us in North East Scotland aka STV North/Grampian whilst I partly agree with you but STV can't be that bothered really to put in any effort be Hogmanay or be during the week!

Possibly STV don't want to do LIVE shows in case it goes tits up quite possibly ... since well I am familar with this on the STV News at 6 live from Aberdeen/Dundee

I know I M Jolly's are dated as well but I rather see them from start to finish - it still be a bit of nostalgia on ... As for Only An Excuse its just more recently I can't watch it anymore, I rather had Rab C Nesbitt instead!

As for STV and the channel its "becoming" -- its already here - the shambolic scheduling of opt out ITV shows hardly finishing (yet ITV complete it in one go), STV hardly makes any effort in any programming other than being cheap -- what else does Scotland do? Other than cookery and animal rescue (animal 999 is another programme churned out to death) and on the odd occasion been thrown in randomly as a repeat!

Also still no new drama coming out of STV yet -- Taggart has disappeared off the face of the earth part of course the repeats on STV Edinburgh and Glasgow and that too in New Year will now become the STV2 network with Dundee, Ayr and Aberdeen -- prepares for simulcasting from Glasgow....

STV in my mind has evolved into a channel I can't watch (par ITV) but I think I will just stick to the ITV Hub on my Smart TV/Fire stick from now on if any shows are missed ie Countrywise don't see the point in STV starting in then dropping it to their own commitments to then be forgotten about and then brought back eventually -- actually best example is Wild Ireland!

Yet BBC Scotland makes more of an effort than STV and thats even with factual documentaries even if its about Scotland!

STV seems to spend less on its own programming (is that because that got no confidence or is it that they rather throw more of the money to its shareholders?), I rather STV invested in better programming be from drama and documentaries that could be sold onto other networks but what it brings out in opt outs is just dire - I rather watch ITV's own programming most of the time whilst I agree STV needs to do "local" or "regional" outputs it needs to alot more than what it puts out, it just seems STV is the cheapest channel on programming but announces profits yearly, I can't fanthom how they can still be going?

Sorry I meant David Farrell and Jennifer Reoch. Maybe as it would always look cheap compared to the BBC show.
