Is all of the Hogmanay show on BBC live? I've always thought parts looked recorded

As for Stv, it may not be perfect but if we end up with ITV Scotland at any point we might as well just confine any unique identity our nation has to the dustbin

An hour-long news review would meet the quota for peak-time regional programming on STV. The Take Me Out celeb special probably won't get many viewers on ITV.

Hasn't STV pretty much done that by broadcasting a pre-recorded show on New Year's Eve night?!

Quite possibly (knowing it as ITV who pick up the tabs for STV most of the year) but I doubt it will get as many viewers first time (on STV) especially late.

I'd rather have something else or pretty much ITV schedule as planned ... going back to STV's past schedule I could think of they tried a bit of comedy with Karen Dunbar and they had "the greatest Scot" countdown on Hogmanay ... yeah those programmes went down a treat .... basically STV has given up, as for Celeb Take Me Out it may not get many viewers but looking at it this way it will still pull in viewers to a later scheduling of 10.15pm (that STV has chose to go for instead on 2 Jan), so sacrifice a programme they KNOW will get viewers at least for the channel to show a repeat of You've Been Framed instead, yes STV knows their viewers pretty well!

STV gave up on New Year's Eve many years ago. In Rikki Fulton's day they knew they had no chance. Only an Excuse was never very good but people seem to watch it for some strange reason. Perhaps they watch BBC's live midnight programme in the hope someone will get drunk again!

STV is showing YBF to fill the half-hour gap that has been created by its pre-recorded Hogmanay programme and STV also had to squeeze in the Harry Potter film. Therefore, STV can't show Take Me Out on New Year's Eve night.

Given that there's a significant number of households in the STV area that have Virgin Media, Sky or Freesat, the number of people watching the STV Hogmanay programme will be extremely small.

The absurdity of STV's scheduling on New Year's Eve is not the failure to show Take Me Out on that night, it's the failure to show the news from ITN!

Some people like me are now getting fed up with You've Beren Framed repeats being put on just to fill an half hour gap in the listings.
Glad I been going out for an hour or so for the last few years on Hogmonay.
I have BT TV with Youview and will go though some of the extra channels on there but will still end up watching BBC1 Scotland in the run up to the bells.
Despite STV starting to go downhill in the last few years I still don't fancy it become ITV Scotland as that maybe even worse than we have the now.

I think the ITV News Special being broadcast on New Year's Eve will be enjoyable. It starts at 11:30 and so will have a review of 2016. STV's decision not to broadcast it is much more serious than repeating YBF.

New Year's Eve - The 10/15 minute STV NEWS REVIEW - I wonder if this is a repeat of the broadcast during the STV News early last week - the good lady remarked at the time that this 10 minute insert within the STV news was a strange thing to see before Christmas on their main bulletin.

Holiday Monday - It's taken STV 5 months to screen CELEBRITY HOME SECRETS (also repeated tonight on ITV) - I wonder if they will complete the 6 part run uninterrupted?

Tuesday 3rd - BRITAIN AS SEEN ON ITV appears on STV & ITV at 7.30pm as a repeat run (1 of 6). Odd that STV go back and show the whole series again but we never did see part 6 (the last part) on our screens the last time! Again, will they be able to complete the series this time round?!

Late night on Tuesday we see a repeat (1 of 6) of WILDERNESS WALKS WITH RAY MEARS, and yet the ITV broadcast (July 2016) WILD FRANCE WITH RAY MEARS has not been shown on STV!

Friday 6th - FISHING IMPOSSIBLE gets a late night run out on ITV (rpt) and 1st screening (4 months later) on STV (1 of 10) - yet another show where we will soon find out if it does a complete, uninterrupted run!

I agree here with you but this is what I mean with STV and its schedule - why not have left as intended as such but as you say they had to fill in Hogmanay show for the sake of it ... with Dame Lorraine, well if the repeat of YBF is meant to attract audience to STV that night we all know its failure but try telling them that!

As if STV can scrape more barrels after the Hogmanay Show we now have a Jukebox ... really now?? Will it be modern pap or be bagpipes and all?

As for shows appearing out the blue in new year .... yes it makes you wonder doesn't it? Again who is doing these repeats .... oh look ITV is doing and STV is doggy paddling, yes I too wonder if all these shows will get a full run or will we get more opt outs shortly and shows again to never be completed? I'll say it again then whats the point in STV airing these shows to then give up in due process - series linking it is a disaster from the start!

STV's reason for the repeat of YBF is just to fill the gap in the schedule.

Surely, a pre-recorded Hogmanay show is not the only means that STV has for meeting the regional programming quota.

It would be better than a pre-recorded Hogmanay show.

Any Scot who wants to see a live Hogmany show on TV will be watching BBC 1.

When I heard that the STV offering was pre recorded that made my mind up right away. ITV/STV have given up on New Year's Eve and so for years now it is the default position of many to watch BBC1 Scotland - the Hogmanay show is popular and whilst OAE may be long in the tooth you always get the feeling BBC1 Scotland is willing to experiment more prior to the bells.

I wouldn't be surprised if I am honest if it somehow falls under its quota, as if it wasn't doing well surely STV would have been better sticking to ITV for Hogmanay instead?

Heck recently STV to fill its quota has been using shows from the STV local network to fill in gaps and programmes are missed! Yet these programmes look like they been made from their Scotland Tonight studio!

Yet I wonder if there will be a big party at the STV HQ on Hogmanay .. the budget that could have been used for something like that is spent more on the bosses at HQ

Why is STV obsessed when it comes to this time of year a show has to be "pre-recorded" in advance? Is it that the guests get carried away and get drunk or what? Plus with it being recorded its going to look more fake than it actually is! Lorraine looks at the clock from the Frigate Unicorn and counts 10...9...8....Happy 2017 from Dundee!!! (isn't she Glasweigan anyway? Ain't your home hen!)

With regard to the quota, I recall that STV broadcast a documentary it produced to commemorate Lockerbie's 25th anniversary before the late ITV News bulletin, thus missing the broadcast of a Harry Potter film in the rest of the UK (meaning that terrestrial viewers in the STV area who are Harry Potter fans missed out - ITV's obsession with Potter is being discussed in another thread at the moment), while ITV and UTV broadcast the documentary after the news. Ironically, STV also produced a documentary on the 10th anniversary of the 7/7 bombings that was broadcast at 9 p.m. in all of the UK.

As far as I took it was the regional programming was at 8pm? Let alone STV seems to buy in programmes from ITV and muck around with them with hardly any announcements - this shouldn't be an issue in reality but it is now - let alone those that work there will have more chance to see what is missed on ITV that STV fails to show (sorry not failing more like hardly completing but of course sometimes its ITV thats picking up the mess STV creates for itself), again whats the point in showing something to be dropped after a couple episodes to disappear to then appear either a few weeks later or few months later (read back on some of MrSirs examples). If this was ITV doing this exact same thing people would be complaining about the treatment the programmes are getting but since its STV it seems more like nobody cares? If its down to nobody cares what STV does - is it the channel still getting the same viewership it once had or are people looking to Virgin/Sky or firesticks as alternatives to viewing ITV shows that STV chooses to either start or avoid?

No one greets at Jools Holland not being live on Hogmanay! So what if STV are doing something pre-recorded. If content is poor (and it could well be) fine. Live aspect not really the issue.

If its pre-recorded surely you should tell the viewer? I listen to BBC Radio 5 Live at least they announce some of their programming is pre-recorded and not live or to a degree if some shows from the night before....

Just a thought, did STV once get caught out by covering the Edinburgh New Year's Eve pop concert and then finding it was cancelled because of the weather (seems to happen regularly!)? Might have put them off a live programme though I think the difficulty of competing with the BBC is main factor.

Jools Holland is far better than anything STV will put on tomorrow night.
As I said I will end up watching BBC1 Scotland in the run up to the bells and may switch to BBC2 for a short while for the end of Jools Holland.
STV for the last few years has been crap at Hogmanay.
BBC1 Scotland has 8 times out of 10 always been a little better than STV at Hogmanay.
