“Next Year STV will do a programme called "Scotland's Greatest Computer Games" (programme looks at Grand Theft Auto and how money was made... ) .... its nothing more than a dumbed down network for babies and YES this also goes in part with some programmes ITV make”

Sounds good to me, relevant to Scotland's digital economy. The kind of programme I'd expect on BBC2, certai ly not for babies

Ay word on what STV are showing for Hogmanay?

No idea - caught a sneak glance at the Radio Times Christmas issue in WH Smith yesterday, but as I was thumbing my way through it to New Year's Eve I realised that it wouldn't be in there - have to wait a wee while yet..

Insider knowledge there seiko? You're right - it might be shown in a better slot, just as they did with Series 1 of Downton - hurriedly squeezed into a Sunday afternoon with the last episode playing out on the afternoon of the start of Series 2! Very professional....

However, we'll see and as you say might be a better fit around Christmas.

Regarding what I said about about babies .... I was on about STV is becoming as bad as ITV .... dumbed down for babies...

You just answered the STV question regarding "missed" programmes I wouldnt even use the word "professional" for them doing that more like "amateurish" plus the way "midsomer murders" has been treated by STV --- mind you STV must be "professional" at other things which are.........????

Here are the STV OPT OUTS for the rest of this week (Tue. 20th - Fri. 23rd inclusive):-

TUE. 20TH - 10.35pm-5.30am - ITV shows The Bourne Supremacy film, till 12.30am - then Kojak interrupts The Zone & Nightscreen, while STV goes for THE CUBE, MONTE CARLO OR BUST and ODD ONE IN - all repeats until 1.05am, then KOJAK double bill, COLUMBO and JEREMY KYLE.
Verdict: It's an action thriller on ITV, whilst STV opts for fun and games until a round of cops and mystery takes over. For seasonal variety, STV WIN.

WED. 21ST - 3.00-5.00pm - ITV & STV show different episodes of Midsomer Murders. 10.35pm-5.30am - ITV repeat Michael Buble's Christmas concert, then Grimefighters until 12.25am - The Zone takes over until 2.30am when they show the 1996 film Barb Wire. Nightscreen airs until 5.30am. STV continue with JOANNA LUMLEY and GRIMEFIGHTERS repeats until 12.05am, then in come the cops again with KOJAK and COLUMBO preceding JEREMY KYLE at 3.30-5.20am.
Verdict: A similar schedule to the previous night, but once again for this viewer STV WINS.

THUR. 22ND - 10.35pm-5.30am - ITV screens James Bond in Tomorrow Never Dies. The Zone airs from 12.45-2.45, then sci-fi film Serenity airs until 4.40am. STV show FILM:RUMOUR HAS IT from 2005- until 12.25am. A double bill of KOJAK shows until 2.15am. The awful NIGHTSHIFT comes on until 5.30am.
Verdict: A close call tonight, as ITV rolls out James Bond and STV goes for the rom-com option! The acceptable KOJAK lifts STVs schedule until 2.15am - but this one is A DRAW.

FRI. 23RD - 10.50pm-5.30am - ITV run the 1999 film Eyes Wide Shut until 1.35am, then The Zone and 1979 horror film The Fog swirls in at 3.30am. STV repeats MICHAEL BUBLE until 12.15am, then KOJAK and COLUMBO do more sluething until the rotten NIGHTSHIFT kicks in at 2.45am.
Verdict: Debatable movie choice from ITV, and so the vote goes to the Scottish broadcaster for craftily scheduling MICHAEL BUBLE just before Christmas and the acceptable cop shows. STV WIN.

Conclusion: I've missed a week or so of posting the STV OPT OUTs (but looking back they have had a good and acceptable run) and so they continue on form in the run up to Christmas. Back in a few days for the Christmas week OPT OUTs.

Bobby or do i call you Mr Hain, people want programming that they can watch, not the parochial turd that is STV at present.

So yes you are right - it's easy to forget the tat that was thrown at us years ago.

We will have to agree to disagree on healthy debate - this is a subjective debate on STV OPT OUTs/programmes & policy. Indeed if you look at my comments on the latest OPT OUTs I tallied up and gave it 2 ITV, 2 STV, 2 draw. This is just my opinion of course!

I don't think for one minute ITV is dreamland tv/bees knees - but as kezo eludes to they have sh*t on the North East /Grampian region and their prog. output to the network now is WOEFUL - where are the quality dramas and productions we had years ago? Their offering through the night is a disgrace for a national broadcaster (yes let's just give up in this digital multi channel age), their news is tabloidy and now seems cheap in comparison to the BBC Scotland.

They are now very little more than a few bolt ons to an advertising/website organisation - are they really a national broadcaster? Mmmm - debatable.

But I agree - ITV has it's faults too, but I will continue to comment on their OPT OUTs and give them praise where it's due too. ”

The stuff that nightmares are made off, as for Jack Mclaughlins patter that went out with the last ice age yet he is still doing it on radio.

Maybe his old mate Richard Park should him a job more suited to his level!

I had to pick up what you said regarding "midsomer" STV and ITV show different episodes so I guess STV has done that again....I know possibly it wont be new ones but to show different midsomer is laughable ... why not just network what ITV show?? ... maybe in that time STV should have used that to "catch up" on an earlier series with Nigel Dundgeon in it than the repeat (again) of John Nettles .... oh well good to hear the nightshift is finally being cut down from every night to at least 2-3 times a week guess their level of traffic for "calls/texts/emails" to the show must show that the viewers are losing interest in the show?? ... after new year wouldnt be at all surprised if this was axed....

EDIT: I think the testcard will be making a "comeback" in 2012!

Oh good beyonce on after a few weeks of original broadcast on ITV1 and is that a repeat of the results show of "scotlands greatest tosh" .... good one STV I think I will go over to BBC as I do every year at this time ... may not exactly be better but god I can watch it... ... sounds similar they done this with "the greatest scot" couple years back .... surprised they did not make "the making of the making of scotlands greatest album"

Here are the STV OPT OUTS for the next few days (CHRISTMAS EVE-WEDNESDAY 28TH INCL):-

CHRISTMAS EVE - No changes from ITV schedule.

CHRISTMAS DAY - 12.35-5.55am - ITV goes through the night with The Comedy Annual, Fim:Towering Inferno & Kojak. STV airs US crime series HEIST, then KOJAK, then 1979 horror film THE FOG.

Verdict: Not much to choose between the two. DRAW.

BOXING DAY - 11.15pm-5.55am - ITV runs with 2 movies - Gladiator & Vertigo, until Nightscreen at 4.10am. STV show RUGBY UNION HIGHLIGHTS, repeat of VET SCHOOL BITES, KOJAK & COLUMBO, then the 1996 Pamela Anderson film BARB WIRE.

Verdict: 2 very good films on ITV, a real mixed lot on STV. DRAW.

HOLIDAY TUESDAY - 10.30pm-5.55am - ITV shows King Kong, Rugby & Kojak before Nightscreen at 3.55am. STV screens the 2005 film CONSTANTINE, but then the awful NIGHTSHIFT kicks in at 1.05-5.00am. Bizarrely, KOJAK is aired from 5.00-5.55am!!

Verdict: No excuse for STVs cop out as early as 1.05, and the timing of KOJAK is just plain stupid. ITV WIN.

WEDNESDAY 28TH - 2.35pm-4.35pm & 10.15pm-5.55am - ITV and STV show different MIDSOMER MURDERS in the afternoon, whilst through the night ITV screen Benidorm & The Jonathan Ross Show before the lame Zone comes on at 12.30am. ITV slightly redeem themselves with a showing of the 1995 chiller Village Of The Damned at 2.30am. STV go for laughs too and show the Eddie Murphy comedy NUTTY PROFESSOR 2, then more sleuthing from COLUMBO at 12.10am. Once again the poor NIGHTSHIFT comes on at 1.30am.

Verdict: STV edges it with their movie choice and COLUMBO. STV WIN.

Conclusion: 1 ITV win, 1 STV win, 2 draws. STVs NIGHTSHIFT is creeping back into the schedule again. And taking a cursory look at the tail end of next week and into the following - there are more prime time OPT OUTs on the way too! HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

Happy holidays mrsirs ... STV do love repeating their old stuff over and over again dont they - as if it was bad enough on the "nightshift" I agree with you saying "kojak" at 5am LOL what they hoping for ... oh boy opt outs you say on the way?? LOL I better get my PS3 bang up and running again in new year now ... STV opt outs will be s..t and we all know it it will possibly return of "underbelly" (AGAIN) and possibly something SCOTTISH to their standards....surprise me STV!! ... better not ITV1 are calling me..

EDIT: why the hell is STV not screening the holiday special from 2010 "benidorm" (this was the ONE they opted out originally with the "lawsuit" going on) .... oh wait thats right STV know "whats best" for their viewers...guess more scots are using ITV2 then than first thought I reckon....so I guess if ITV screens new "benidorm" in new year guess more viewers will be flogging...STV you have done it again already ... pat yourselves on the back (idiots!)

STV is crap at Hogmanay. Guess I will have to watch BBC1 Scotland yet again. At lest BBC1 Scotland has some sort of Hogmanay show on and two good shows before that.

Based on my New Year's TV Choice STV are opting out from Eternal Law and Law and Order UK. Always possible they will turn up later, but they certainly aren't on the same time as ITV1

I think the fact that STV are not even attempting to celebrate New Year is disgraceful and shows that the once great tv station is being run by t*ssers!

I'm afraid this is the poor quality judgement you get when you appoint a failed dj as your managing director. It's time for Bobby Hain and his incompitent croonies to fall on their swords and quit! But, since they've yet to make a decent decision during their tenure, I can't see that happening .

.....the words "so it begins" spring to mind again ... I wonder if L/O UK is the concluding part of where it left off (speaking from the ITV1 perspective) if so prepare for the next "greatest programme crash" on STV or an "import" I think...I apologise though STV are showing "benidorm" tonight at same time as ITV1 but not showing it on "hogmanay" (new years eve) as ITV1...(unsure if its the 2010 episode repeated twice for ITV1 and STV showing it once) mind you better give STV "credit" they are showing the "Benidorm" from 2010 now as part of the ITV1 screening since last year STV refused to air it anyway and oh look its on north of the border 1 year later ... what does that actually say?? ... no answer needed!

heck remember last year they "attempted" it but was all pre-recorded in september ... called "midnight".... jeez I dont know what STV knows what "hogmanay" or new years actually is....I think to them its just the run of the mill just run the same tosh they shove down our throats every year - this year for their "celebration" they have Beyonce (3-4 weeks later after original broadcast) and re-run of "greatest album" ... I may as well go out and start celebrating when that programme starts or get drunk for the programme starting LOL ... or be "reemed" LOL

I havent seen the ad but unless its not a new series then with STV wouldnt be surprising if its not been shown already....I am sure I seen that on most recently on ITV3 not long ago...

EDIT: just checked ITV website they are saying series 4 is currently over and no info yet on series 5

The reason people complain as what STV provides in opt outs is generally poor apart from what an import called "underbelly" whoopee! but thats an Austrailan programme not a "british" programme or even "scottish" made....

I see you clicked on to ALL regions had their own programmes ... yes thats true but STV does really nothing nowadays for the north apart from news....

If people are meant to take STV seriously they got a long way back in gaining confidence in its scottish viewers

I may add though the way STV handles "missed" programmes is more unbelievable .... either you miss it completely or they jump into "halfway through" ... so lets turn it around if that was SKY or BBC ... and they ran a series but thought that it was OK to go to say episode 5 of season 9 (example NCIS) and few weeks later go to beginning of the storyline then whats the point?? (excluding repeats) ... viewers would be left unhappy and what STV had done with "midsomer murders" with me in particular was the "jump" forward .. yes im lucky I have a PS3 and use ITVPlayer but if no one has the internet sky/virgin and rely on STV as their main "ITV" provider its pointless...
