Any chance we can go to "cornwall with caroline quentin" by chance?? ... these programmes STV come away with make you more depressed than anything else....

Remember MrSirs this is STV's vision of "homegrown programming" (cough) (cough) I can see a Summer Edition coming soon .... Sean speaks about the times Scotland has had sunshine until recently ... Sean Batty investigates ..... "beyond explanation II"

Anyone want to throw STV a bone and drown the channel its embarassing and is not doing anything here .... I have a feeling they are a RABBIT stuck in THE HEADLIGHTS and have no NEW ideas here and RECYCLING ideas yet again ... guess STV are trying to be more of a GREENER TV CHANNEL than anything else.....:yawn:

I think it was "much loved" by the staff more at Scottish TV than Grampian TV LOL

Yes and remember the failed attempt of "the hour" and that lasted how long??

STV may as well rewrite history ... may as well keep an eye out for "take the high road" next or should that be we all will be "taking the high road" out of Scotland

I think in reality STV have not got a clue on how to run a channel but are more than happy to put in your face - stvplayer/holidays(scottish passport)/bingo/homes(NOW)/jobs -- possibly list is endless .. STV must be a BIG organisation if its able to run these sites of theirs yet provide LITTLE of actual "homegrown" programming either make it cheap .... surprised STV still has not made any NEW dramas or actual NEW programming ... just the same OLD STV ....

Found this thread whilst doing a search trying to find out why I can't find the Whitechapel catchup on tonight's Stv HD listings. Looks like I'll be watching it on Virgin's ITV ad channel.

Is it a purely financial decision or is it that STV are doing it's political masters bidding and censoring programmes that it believes are 'too Englishcentric'?? Surprised that Joan McAlpine MSP hasn't posted on this thread to tell us that we're all "unpatriotic and anti-Scottish" for wanting to watch Liverpool v Man Utd and Whitechapel

12-18 months ago I think it was a financial decision dressed up as "not relevant to Scotland", and we were served up dross in its place. STV eventually backtracked and hurriedly screened Downton Abbey, Doc Martin etc... Now it is financial decision - What other reason would they not screen 5 (Whitechapel, Eternal Law, Cornwall, Law & Order UK, Safari Vet School) networked shows this week in primetime??And what is in their place - CHEAP FILLERS and shows that were screened months ago on the ITV network!

Don't be fooled by STVs OPT OUT spin - they are depriving hundreds of thousands of viewers who only have Freeview and who have no access to or no inclination to watch Whitechapel on a 15" computer screen.

I have no issue with STV opting out and showing decent, quality programmes - but to opt out of primetime shows in the hope of A) Not needing to screen them and to save money and/or B) Hoping they will tank in the ratings (e.g. Eternal Law) so no need to show them anyway (i.e. "we're vindicated by our OPT OUT decision") or C) Picking them up on the cheap several months later and trumpeting them as "NEW TO STV" - all quite frankly is disgraceful.

What do/did we have in their place?

Scottish Passport - Dead and buried years ago and resurrected as some new bright travel show. I've watched it - and it's amateurish.

The Hour - Promoted to 8pm primetime and flopped after 4 weeks.

Scotland's Greatest Album - A series of clips and videos strung together and flogged to death over several weeks.

Weatherwatch with Sean Batty - Their latest blue eyed boy presents 2 weeks of programmes on... Scottish weather. Yawn.

A line up that hardly excites and inspires. And let's not forget their screenings of once networked ITV shows - as said now given a glorious fanfare of being "Brand new to STV".

Sounds to me as if they've appointed Alan Partridge as New Programmes Advisor. Only a matter of time before we have "Arm Wrestling with The Proclaimers", "Youth Hostelling with Graeme Obree", "Inner-city Sumo", "Cooking in Prison" and "Panda Tennis - LIVE from Edinburgh Zoo"

STV should be treated with contempt , the same thing they have for viewers. STV has no future if the do not program for the viewers.

LOL - you've given them plenty of ideas there! I wouldn't be surprised if one or some of those were screened!!

Here then are the STV OPT OUTs for the remainder of this week:-

MONDAY 6TH - 8.00-8.30pm - ITV: Cornwall. STV: SCOTTISH PASSPORT.

9.00-10.00pm - ITV: Whitechapel. STV: IDENTITY.

10.30pm-5.30am - ITV: That Sunday Night Show/Law & Order UK/River Monsters/The Zone/Jeremy Kyle/Nightscreen/Jeremy Kyle. STV: SCOTLAND TONIGHT - THAT SUNDAY NIGHT SHOW - ODD ONE IN - FILM: THE EXORCIST, THE BEGINNING - IN PLAIN SIGHT - NIGHTSCREEN.

Verdict: STV put up an acceptable late night offering, but their failure to show Whitechapel continues to lose them favour. ITV WIN.

TUESDAY 7TH - 10.30pm-3.05am - ITV: Benidorm/The Cube/The Zone. STV: SCOTLAND TONIGHT - FILM: AMERICAN GANGSTER - JEREMY KYLE - VET SCHOOL BITES.

Verdict: Before STV joins the network at 3.05am they once again put up a good offering of programmes, including a highly rated film. STV WIN.

WEDNESDAY 8TH - 7.30-10.00pm - ITV: Football. STV: CHEETAH KINGDOM - MIDSOMER MURDERS.

10.30pm-2.35am - ITV: Football highlights/Kidnap & Ransom/The Zone. STV: SCOTLAND TONIGHT - FILM: THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION - JEREMY KYLE.

Verdict: STV viewers miss out on live FA Cup football earlier in the evening, but before joining the network at 2.35am with Film: Rio Bravo they offer a decent line up of programmes, again showing a well rated film. Despite the football no show, a narrow win for the Scottish broadcaster today. STV WIN.

THURSDAY 9TH - 9.00-10.00pm - ITV: Eternal Law. STV: LOVE HATE.

10.30pm-5.30am - ITV: Jonathan Ross/Take Me Out/The Zone/Tonight/Nightscreen/Jeremy Kyle. STV: SCOTLAND TONIGHT - SCOTTISH PASSPORT - JONATHAN ROSS - NIGHTSHIFT.

Verdict: The late night line ups aren't terribly exciting from either camp tonight, and earlier on Scottish viewers miss out on the networked (albeit lowly rated) Eternal Law. A narrow win for the network. ITV WIN.

FRIDAY 10TH - 8.00-8.30pm - ITV: Safari School Bites. STV: MOVIEJUICE.

9.00-10.00pm - ITV: Law & Order Uk. STV: BLUE MURDER.

10.30PM-5.30am - ITV: Film: Jaws The Revenge. STV: RUGBY UNION - FILM: THE SKELETON KEY - THE NIGHTSHIFT.

Verdict: It's a no show for 2 programmes in primetime, and bizarrely after a few weeks of the Jaws films STV decide to jump ship and not screen the last one. ITV WIN.

Conclusion: Again, STV perform well late at night earlier in the week, but their primetime OPT OUTs continue to leave a bitter taste in the mouth.

MrSirs would not be at all surprised if that gets moved (JAWS - REVENGE) either to the following week somepoint .... STV is good at JUMPING ship when it can....I also picked up they are NOW re-running Vet School Bites.....why not stick on "Looney Tunes" instead than repeat the same thing over and over and over again....next weeks instead of "Vet School Bites" it will be "Beyond Explanation" again .. or do we brace ourselves of the onslaught known as "the hour CHUNKS" not bites!

Whilst I accept this final film in the Jaws "franchise" is probably the least appealing, yet again we have another example where initially STV are sensible and join up with the network to screen the first 3, yet oddly don't show the last one. How daft is that - or indeed frustrating?!! Showing the film would have kept a line of continuity, instead if they ever decide to show it they will be stuck with a film that sticks out like a sore thumb rather than sensibly running it as ITV have done.

Thats the STV way of thinking ... they done that with Midsomer show ONE episode with Neil Dundgeon and oh look back to John Nettles again....and yes when STV did show that one with Neil in it....and it did STICK out like a sore thumb ... STV have no idea how to stick with network programming other than going off on one....which in end backfires

bit off topic here but GREAT NEWS my STV NEWS has finally been upgraded after when?? both Aberdeen news and Dundee news has all the stuff that Glasgow/Edinburgh have had for ages....oh its a Christmas miracle (oh wait it aint ... silly me) ... regarding this part STV needs to work alot better with its other news areas than play down to "favoritism" and I believe this is the case.....

I think the reason here is the rugby which has taken the Friday 10.35pm slot and I guess can't easily be moved elsewhere

I thought that as well, but the rugby lasts only 30 minutes, with STVs OPT OUT continuing after the rugby with an alternative film - THE SKELETON KEY at 11.10pm. This film lasts as long, if not longer than the Jaws one, so there's no excuse - JAWS The Revenge should have been picked up by STV and screened in line with the rest of the network, and as a continuation of the series every Friday night.

Complete laziness on STVs part - have a look at what's after THE SKELETON KEY - the awful NIGHTSHIFT (a crass amateur compendium of clips and backing voice) so there has been no squeeze put on their schedule. Indeed, I could have accepted your point if there had been NO film after the rugby - perhaps an hour filler or something, but to put another film on after the rugby is, as I have said, bizarre.

I read on another thread here that NEW Benidorm will be screened on ITV later this month ... any ideas IF STV are showing this ... or will this be opportunity AGAIN to use my PS3???

I can see if its not shown and if the series has followers up here I can definately see them flogging elsewhere and ANOTHER loss to STV with their craparama programming

She is a bit of a pathetic fart with a touch of penis envy thrown in for good measure.

STV has no future and will continue to struggle and attract viewers, bankruptcy beckons if they do not change their business model.

Here are the STV OPT OUTs for this weekend & Monday:-

SATURDAY 11TH - 10.30pm-5.30am - ITV: Film: Bridget Jones/The Zone/In Plain Sight/Nightscreen. STV: FILM: 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN - NIGHTSHIFT.

Verdict: 2 different movies in the late night slot, but not much to choose between them. DRAW.

SUNDAY 12TH - 9.30-11.30am - ITV: Ade In Britain/Dinner Date. STV: JEREMY KYLE - ADE IN BRITAIN.

10.45pm-5.30am - ITV: Whitechapel/Rugby Union/The Zone/Ladette To Lady/Nightscreen. STV: FILM: INSIDE I'M DANCING - NIGHTSHIFT.

Verdict: STV miss out on Dinner Date in the morning, but more importantly Whitechapel at night. Slightly redeemed by a well rated film, but ITV edge today. ITV WIN.

MONDAY 13TH - 8.00-8.30pm ITV: Cornwall. STV: WEATHERWATCH WITH SEAN BATTY

9.00-10.00pm - ITV: Whitechapel. STV: IDENTITY.

10.30pm-5.30am - ITV: That Sunday Night Show/Law & Order UK/River Monsters/The Zone/Nightscreen/Jeremy Kyle. STV: SCOTLAND TONIGHT - THAT SUNDAY NIGHT SHOW - ODD ONE IN - FILM: OUTBREAK - HIGHLANDS HIGHLIGHTS - CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WEEKLY - IN PLAIN SIGHT - NIGHTSCREEN.

Verdict: A strong line up from STV late night & through the night is once again let down earlier on by the no show of Whitechapel, and the screening of a ridiculous looking programme about Scottish weather. ITV WIN.

At least Ch5 buy in decent shows from the US and screen them at sensible times.

ALL STV offer is Scotlands Greatest Snowman etc - they must be miffed that we are missing the latest cold snap in the UK. Bang goes a whole series of programmes.......

If STV were capable of making something like Highland Rescue it would not only be worth a look, they could sell it to other channels!

Meanwhile, I wonder if we are getting more of their only homegrown - and non clip! - success- Vet School?

Happened to watch last night's Scottish news (at 6) on STV. I shook my head at the end when Rajan (that sports guy) handed over to John Mackay and said "cheers" - Mackay replies back "cheers" and it was like a couple of guys meeting up for a drink in a bar talking about the football. Utterly amateurish and unprofessional.

STV are so far behind financially and in terms of clout now they are filling their OPT OUTs with cheap fillers:-

Once they offered salmon in the sandwiches - now it's fish paste

They missed a trick a few years ago - instead of investing heavily in home grown/joint partnerships to produce (and sell) programmes of quality hey ho the recession appears and they have sailed their boat down the cheap and tacky river to websites, cheap fillers and a policy of OPT OUTs of strong networked shows.

Look what we get from BBC Scotland - quality news programming, sports broadcasting, interesting documentaries about the arts, history in/of Scotland etc.. etc.. Yes I know that is licence payer funded, but STV should have been pursuing a policy of at least producing some half decent dramas (from a wealth of Scottish writers), or a good arts programme, or SOMETHING!!
