Seiko - I assumed that ITV1 are repeating series 1 of Downton before broadcasting series 2 - and so STV are not actually opting out of anything. (for once).
I am very worried about that Defender of STV, corporatemedia - aka Angustay. Not a cheap since the news of DA being shown to the Scots. ![]() Is he unwell? Has it all been too much? Does he intend to watch his box set of 'Scotland's Greatest....' while DA is on? I think we should be told. ![]() He is currently tied to the toilet being sick after the major overdose of humble pie he has eaten following his prolonged period of claiming Scots had no interest in DA. |

![]() ![]() ![]() So if this is them "opting out" of repeats of series 3 ... they are the laughing stock! |

Holby City suffers from BBC Scotland's bizarre policy of sticking the show in any available prime time slot. I don't think the show has had a long run in any particulalr slot for years up here.

I wonder if that is the series that we were only allowed to see a couple of episodes of?
Oh well, ITV3 is the place to catch up. ![]() ![]() ![]()

The BBC scheduling of Holby City AND Waterloo Road (neither of which I watch) is bizarre to say the least - and all because of the mega soap 'River City'.
I think both the shows would be popular here if they appeared at the same time week after week. As things stand trying to find them in the schedules is like pinning the tail on the donkey - they could be ANYWHERE...... Re Law & Order - I need to see the end of series 2 where Bill Paterson left......hope it was not under a cloud, I liked his characters dry humour. |

BBC scotland has been told off about this before, including HIGNFY, and two bbc sitcoms which one of them went from: Sunday evening--- follwoing thursday--- week on tuesday.... Points of view were told aswell. |

It used to amuse me how BBC Scotland would push back an established UK show - like HIGNFY - in order to show a home made programme (usually pretty dire but the odd decent one) in its time slot.
To me, it proved they had so little faith in their own programmes that the only way they could think of getting an audience was to show them in the time slot of another popular show and hope viewers would 1. not switch off in disgust 2. stick with it (whilst waiting for the usual programme) and actually like it. IMO, when you settle down to watch something heavily trailed and usually screened at a set time, and you are offered something from your own region instead, no matter how marvellous the Scottish programme may be, you are NEVER going to give it a fair chance. I think the new 'Taggarts' were less than popular here because we all knew that a lavish costume drama with a steller cast was being seen elsewhere..... |

Underbelly: I noticed on tuesday night STV advertised "underbelly" twice within 1 min 30 secs during "wildlife patrol" and the ad does state it "contains adult content" so why advertise when children could be watching this particular programme? |

L/O:UK - Bill Patterson's send off the drama was well done I would not have said he left the last episode with any "humour" (seriousness of the case) but glad it was done well - out of curiousity how does anyone feel with the two new charcters in L/O:UK? Its taking time to adjust to it but then in the US version characters changed throughout the 18 seasons (I only watched seasons 13-17 with Jesse Martin) after that did not watch lol |

Re advert breaks on STV. Increasingly they consist of nothing more than a phone in competition and a plug for a forthcoming STV programme.
Does this mean the proper advertisers have picked up their beds and walked????? ![]() Serve them right if they did. Who wants to pay for an advert during a programme which is failing to capture an audience due to the poor treatment of viewers by the station? |

Being honest either its thoughtless or they are trying to get the viewers in for the programme? I would not be at all surprised if they did it up to 9pm but I changed over to ITV1 as I was getting sick of hearing "underbelly" regarding "phone in comps" your right you got them doing it between 7pm-9.15pm thurs-mon and you get the "happy hour" comp with MEchelle but thats plugged in during the day - Thank god ITV1 only plug in comps during programmes where its not as annoying as STV constant barrage of "win win £2,000 by friday or tonight by answering this question...."

Doc Showbiz review - underbelly
Bidie I found this today in the "daily express" pretty funny lol
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() here is the quote from doc showbiz - Daily Express (Scottish) "from the Doc's bottomless bucket of negative things to say about Underbelly (STV) comes a surprising half star rating offered to actor Firas Durani. His passable De Niro impersonation rises above this vile dung-heap of a crime thriller, while the rest of the performances grate like 60 minutes of nails on a blackboard. This revolting caper could have been over in 5 minutes if they had buried the entire cast on a Sydney beach and waited for high tide" --- sums up the programme doesn't it ![]()

Doc Showbiz - who I read from time to time - does not hold back about the STV buy-ins. As a critic he is obliged to watch them and reckons that only his fellow critics do so.
![]() The public vote with the remote.....

Spotted a trailer on STV for the forthcoming DA.
I fully expected the voice over to say "aye, well, you can watch it if you like but take if from me, costume drama doesn't do well in Scotland and you would be much happier with a violent police series from New Zealand". ![]() Amusing to see STV trying to promote something they were so sure we would not want to see..... |

Im surprised there never brought back Short land street for 7pm slot :P
Im still surprised at Doc martin at 5.35pm did anyone catch it? it does seem we will mist the last two episode of law and order, No doubt there will end up Tuesday at 9pm in 10 weeks time after underbelly finishes. |

I bought series 4 of Doc Martin on dvd so did not need to seek it out on STV - but very odd scheduling - the boxset is rated '12' and there are some adult themes in it...
I doubt it would get many viewers - as it would in the 9pm slot - so STV will console themselves that they knew best all along!!!! 'The Royal' would have been better suited to 5.30 and DM at 7 - but then if you want to prove your point about low viewer numbers, you broadcast things in odd timeslots. So coming soon Downton Abbey. 2.30am on a Tuesday..... |

A few points:
* I think it's fair to say even the people behind Downton Abbey were surprised by quite how big a mainstream success it was. It was an extremely unlucky choice for STV to opt out of and continued to be a stick to beat them with. It's long forgotten that STV premiered a new series of Taggart in this slot - exactly the sort of new Scottish programming they were arguing for. * The decision to show Taggart early had two unfortunate side-effects - no promotion from the rest of the network programming (whereas appearances on This Morning and national press coverage would be the norm) and low Scottish viewing figures when it was repeated on STV and on the network's first showing, dragging the overall figure down. * What would you really prefer? I've been sitting here watching posts saying how much a disgrace that ITV has forgotten its regions, that there's no local programming, and when an ITV region goes old-school and shows its own programming it's condemned as a disgrace. Make up your bloody minds. Personally I prefer STV's superior local news coverage. I can understand those who want network ITV1. You can't have it all though. Personally, it's not how I would have run STV. But I can understand why it feels it needs to distinguish itself in the wake of the danger of ITV PLC pulling out of the network. |
