With Rangers now in administration, how long till Stv join them?

Surprise me .... they may as well go and back Celtic whilst they are at it .... oh look "favouritism" strikes again (not a footy fan either but doesnt FAIL to surprise me)

STV goes into administration will be next HEADLINE 6-12 months down the line.....

Reading comments on that site is raising more questions than answers I believe .....

I dont have a problem with Stv being different from Itv, but for them to drop top shows is utter ridiculous, even a different time frame would be ok, as long as they showed them, within a reasonable time frame that is!

It seems ITV must do STV's ad-sales, and as a result there are rather odd references to ITV1 Scotland. However it does contain some Q4 2010 ratings information:
The top 350 programmes in Scotland were all on ITV/STV
The average STV News audience is 146,000 (means nothing without Reporting Scotland to compare to though)
The 6 top rated programmes were:
X Factor Results - 1.397 million
Coronation Street - 1.211 million
I'm a Celebrity - 1.084 million
Taggart - 884,000
STV News Special - 856,000
Emmerdale - 814,000

STV can't be doing that badly rating wise to have the top 350 programmes. And Taggart rated very well (in the same slot that epsiodes 2-7 of Downton Abbey Series 1 aired on ITV1)

Well, FOUR of those in the top 6 ITV programmes - 2 of them soaps - so you would expect them to score highly. Taggart still had its fans, but the mad decision to broadcast it 'first' in Scotland - thereby splitting the UK audience figures - mean ITV are no longer interested in funding it. With Robbie now behind the bar at The Rovers, I doubt any more will be made.

If we want to know how STV are doing with their 'homegrown quality programmes' we need viewing figures for

The Hour
Scotland's Greatest Album/Team/Winter
The Football Years
Vet School (which I love - it is all new filmed footage with a good voice over).
That Weather Show with Whats His Face.

We also need stats on how many who CAN switch to ITV1 in their STV region homes opt to do so when an STV made programme is shown at peak time and, for my own personal curiousity, how many of Bobby Hain's fellow STV bosses have ITV1 in THEIR homes.

I bet it is 100%.

Reporting Scotland averages around 320,000 i believe, pretty good for a BBC newsy type production.

I wonder what the Q4 2011 ratings are for STV ... I wouldnt be at all surprised if ANY "STV" programmes is on the list ... unless by chance its their "imports" and if any there "homegrown (cheap) programming" make it (highly doubt it but surprise me lol

It is impossible to believe the Top 350 programmes were all on STV as we know the BBC Hogmanay Show,Scottish Cup Final etc all rated highly.Perhaps it means the Top 350 STV programmes ?

There does seem to be a bit of racism going on in the networks, if thats the correct phrase. We get Eastenders, but England does not get River City. Whenever a Scots or Irishman is brought into EE they are usually criminals, wife beaters, or down trodden working class tinkers.

River City is produced specifically for the Scottish audience in the way Pobol y Cwm is produced for a Welsh audience.I suppose there might be an argument for repeating River City on BBC2 outside Scotland but anyone who has Sky can access the national regions (BBC Scotland is 971 for instance).As for your point about stereotyping I don't follow the programmes closely enough to comment.I would however add that most English characters in Taggart were portrayed in an unfavourable light.

The Scots are on dodgy ground when they complain about Scottish people being stereotyped unfavourably in productions from South of the border because I have seen numerous Scottish productions where any English people are hardly treated fairly - usually very posh with a very "affected" accent and a bit thick.

In fairness to STV once exceptional one-off costs are excluded the business seems to be performing quite well. Underlying pre-tax profits were up 12% at £14 million. There is a new deal to produce more Antiques Road Trip

It's the ITV settlement, lack of Taggart and redundancy costs that caused the loss

So what has STV really been doing?? .... if its all down to ITV settlement/"lack" of taggart and redundancies? .... is STV now a bank in its own right .... Hardly see anything that impressive from a network that suppose to be either all for Scotland yet it relies on imported goods and making cheap programming without lifting a penny .... so really STV have made a "savings loss" I still think give it time and STV will be hitting the walls soon.....and STV management will paint it all with a rainbow.....

Most worrying is a year after Taggart's demise, no sign of Stv's plan to continue making it or any other form of drama being made. Drama is where the money is and foreign sales are. Without, drama there will only be cheap doc commissions.

Not if you have expensive accountants and PR people who can get a whole range of different results from exactly the same figures.

Yes, but longer term the reasons for the loss mean it is not off long term concern

In terms of city reaction the STV Group share price was down 0.47%, this compares to the media sector in general share prices rising 0.61% today. Suggests the market is disappointed, but they don't see it as a disaster

Apparently 1 broker says STV Group is a 'Strong Buy', 1 says 'Buy' and 2 say 'Neutral'. None say sell. Broker recommedations will probably be based on the medium-long term outlook for STV

Slightly off topic, one of my beloved felines caught and then dropped a small mouse in the kitchen and I have been trying to catch it with a humane trap (big softy that I am). When the first failed - bait gone, no mouse!!! - I decided to order a new one, and could not believe that the following was available.
