BBC3 - till about 3/4am.

BBC4 - till 3/4am.

ITV2 - 2/3am.

ITV3 - 3/4am.

ITV4 - 3/4am.

E4 - 24 hrs.

More 4 - 3/4am.

Film4 - 3/4am.

5USA - 1am.

Picktv - 24 hrs.

Challenge - 24 hrs.

I know the ITV channels do carry "teleshopping" and or nightscreen but most as far as I know do close .... its just annoys me personally is the "give up" approach and resort to the cack thats thrown on and speaking from what I remember from the 90's they either ran "non stop" into the night or just closed .... but I guess some need "revenue" coming in ..... yes who is actually BENEFITING here ... it aint the viewers regarding the state of UK programming at the moment ITV the worst offender of all with all the "reality" cack manifesting on ITV1 and ITV2 ... i'll be glad to see all this stuff gone and get something more decent on!

Comment: At the weekend STV loses out on the network movie "BEFORE SUNSET" in favour of......POMS IN PARADISE!

Because of the international football later in the week, STVs Tuesday evening (9th) line up consists of a (postponed) SUBO documentary and another in the INCREDIBLE STORIES series. Later on that night STV doesn't screen PARENTHOOD movie.

On Thursday night (11th) STV opts out of the new CORFU series (not relevant to Scotland perhaps), whilst on Friday (12th) STV catches up by showing the MAMMA MIA! movie in place of the (networked) football.

I'm old enough to remember decades ago when STV (along with the rest of the ITV network) came on at 9.25am every weekday morning (with schools programmes till noon!), and a similar time at the weekend. All in the days before Breakfast tv of course!

At night they would sometimes follow the network after News At Ten, invariably closing down with the religious Late Call programme around, or just after midnight.

When the ITV network launched all night broadcasting (can't remember exactly when) STV called their strand of programmes "through the night" - roughly following the network content and timing. The mix was a variety of films, American imports, repeats of comedies and dramas etc.. etc... - absolutely NO roulette/gambling, and a text/programming information service occassionally appeared 20-25 minutes at the very end (very early morning, before Breakfast tv started) - that was clearly seen as a genuine filler and NOT a complete block as it is presented now.

So what we have today is an almost complete shift away from that - presenting gambling/roulette and text/recycled clips programmes as complete blocks - in other words cheap, tatty, amateurish rubbish. And if it can be tarted up as a grubby money making slot then even better. Fulfilling OFCOM requirements over viewer satisfaction.

and what you mentioned ABOVE I couldn't agree MORE with .... its alright though ... what are all these "networks" going to do as "reality" is on the wane and I sense its going to BACKFIRE massively (reality shows ie X Factor to TOWIE 2 examples) and the sorry excuse known as MTV with their "teleshopping" cack .... these channels aint "moving" with the times they are finding ways to keep them AFLOAT more than thinking about the VIEWERS also to be known now as the "lowest common dominator" so TV is scraping off barrels with programming now to say 20-40 years ago. Will the networks RECOVER and get back to the way they ran before? I hope so but I don't see it I am that sick of all that cack filling the TV I just want to throw it out! .... Luckily Challenge on the other hand has gave me bit of confidence again with repeats of The Crystal Maze (phew! ) but PROFITS must come FIRST than VIEWER SATISFACTION sadly .... oh well TV networks will be heading for a big bang shortly and I for one can't wait (programming wise I mean)

Yes STV and its wonderful schedule for this week .... lets look Mamma Mia is on tuesday night on ITV1 but STV decide to put it on when footy is on and run "highland highlights" for 10 mins on both days .... STV must be running low on how many times a programme like this needs to be put on! .... more likely they also show these re-runs on "the nightshift" also .... oh well schedule doesn't float my boat

I can't stand STV - utter joke of a channel. I'm amazed they still let me watch Downton Abbey to be honest!

It must be made clear STV has to broadcast 90mins of local content during peak times 7pm - 10pm. It could do with some better shows.

I agree with what you say - fair enough to broadcast the local content - but it def. needs to broadcast better shows.

define "local" to us again .... I am pretty sure the word your looking for is Regional ... as for "local" your having a laugh seiko.

Regarding better shows .... how long have we been waiting on them as far as their content they provide is more of a TURN OFF than a TURN ON - i'll give STV credit on "incredible stories" but at the same time as the production is "dubbed" by STV the programme looks alot cheaper .... plus its a National Geographic Channel production and NOT an STV programme and how does this even fall into "local" programming ... this programme has LESS to do with Scotland than anything else

I am a bit surprised here I assumed "Nightscreen" was ran by ITV but during the times you have given ITV do not even have it listed! .... so what is it STV's version of the "Nightscreen" ? how exciting that must be .... must be just as bad as that "nightshift" but without the recycled clips running

just a question HOW OLD is "highland highlights"? as John Michie has more HAIR on him then than he does in Corrie! ... 3 4 5 years old?

I assumed the STV Nightscreen was the same as the ITV Nightscreen - but according to What's On Tv it describes the STV Nightscreen as "text based guide to forthcoming STV programmes" - so as you say it looks like it's as bad as The Nightshift, without the recycled clips!

For the sake of saving time when I do the OPT OUT list, I don't bother differentiating between the 2 versions - so for example next Monday (16th) Nightscreen comes onto ITV1 at 3.50-5.30am. STV's version appears at 1.20am-5.30am. However the list will only show the STV OPT OUT (as Nightscreen) from 1.20-3.50am, as STV joins the main ITV network at 3.50am.

As far as John Michie and Highland Highlights goes, I have no idea how old that prog. is - maybe more than what you say - maybe 7-10 years old?!

Friday:- STV trots out repeats of The Cube & Grimefighters instead of the networked Al Pacino gangster thriller Scarface.

Hey you don't need to change "nightscreen" for the sake of me I assumed it was the ITV version but guess not ... I was thinking that as I caught it briefly LOL .... STV loves reusing its "scottish" clips over and over again .... for god sake STV scrap these clips and do something else!

You also forgot to mention STV throws on another dollop of "vet school bites" AGAIN ... suggestion to put on instead ... Tom and Jerry anyone?

So what we have today is an almost complete shift away from that - presenting gambling/roulette and text/recycled clips programmes as complete blocks - in other words cheap, tatty, amateurish rubbish. And if it can be tarted up as a grubby money making slot then even better. Fulfilling OFCOM requirements over viewer satisfaction.
ITV channels islands due to legal requirements has to opt
out of the gambling shows so in that timeslot they tend to
broadcast repeats of Nightwatch or regional programes
better than the usuall nighttime fair

like MR sirs im also old enough to remember the old nighttime schedule but was wondering did
anyone else notice a special test broadcast that used to go out on BBC2 late night around this time
i think it was for BBC Select which if i remember right was education programes that might have been scrambled cant mind for sure but certianly during the tests the picture would scramble now and again

strange thing was during these tests they often broadcast a version of ITV Nightime that id never
seen before it wasnt the granada version that STV linked to but the one i now know came from london so i clicked text one night and it was from the TVS region

sorry if ive bored ya all just thought id mention i once watched ITV on the BBC

Hi all

Saw this thread and wanted to make my first post re. the despair I have at the state of of STV

Regardless of the scheduling issues, the channel as a whole is an amateurish disgrace.

Did you see the STV appeal? The production, presenting, and content of the show was so bad it seemed like an ad campaign for Non Scottish Independence.

Two words sum up the channel for me: Raman Bardwadj

LOL but agree with what you say .... channel output is nothing but professional .... it screams cheap (could say this also towards ITV with some of their tat as well) but the production of programming is terrible!

Coached off the Couch is really scraping the fat from STV's lonely barrel, not since Fat Club have I ever witnessed such a bunch of ugly lard asses thunder across my screen, the guinea pigs ain't much better.

Thank Christ we have ITV1
