STV OPT OUTS up to & incl. Friday 16th:-
TUESDAY 6TH:- Monk & Nightscreen on STV late night/through the night, the network has Jeremy Kyle. WEDNESDAY 7TH:- All Nightscreen on STV, ITV has Touring Car highlights & Jeremy Kyle. THURSDAY 8TH:- In Plain Sight replaces Murder She Wrote, then The Nightshift, whilst ITV screens Tonight & Jeremy Kyle. FRIDAY 9TH:- CORNWALL WITH CAROLINE QUENTIN - 1 of 10! appears on STV primetime, ITV has River Monsters. Late night STV opts for movie Total Recall & The Nightshift, ITV goes for Bridget Jones Diary movie, with an episode of Columbo during the night. SATURDAY 10TH:- There's a diff. episode of Midsomer screened on STV this afternoon (to the networked episode), late night STV opts for Bridget Jones Diary movie, ITV goes for Public Enemies. Jeremy Kyle pops up on ITV through the night, STV screen the awful Nightshift. SUNDAY 11TH:- Through the night OPT OUTs see The Nightshift take over, whereas ITV viewers have Monk, Motorsport & Jeremy Kyle. MONDAY 12TH:- Scotland Tonight returns to STV screens late night, with Murder She Wrote & Columbo later. ITV show Monk & Jeremy Kyle through the night. TUESDAY 13TH:- Scotland Tonight & Monk appear on STV, ITV has Piers Morgan's Life Stories & Jeremy Kyle during the night. FRIDAY 16TH:- The Nightshift kicks in for STV just after midnight, ITV air an episode of Columbo through the night. Comment:- Interesting to note ITV show the movie Public Enemies on Saturday night - this has already been screened on ITV & ITV4, but (as far as I'm aware) NOT STV. Amazingly though on Sunday STV actually show live coverage of the (football) English Community Shield final. ![]() Back to the usual nonsense on Friday (16th) though, as STV follow the network at 8pm by showing Tonight - so after 1 week Cornwall disappears off our screens! I wonder if STV will have the courtesy to let viewers know this ...

Great job, bet she picks up a six figure salary for doing nothing. Unless, of course, she decides to re run 500 episodes of Take The High Road in peak time and when Border gets its Scottish opt out, this will be the main part of it. For all I have no problem with Scotland doing its own thing, STV are way too parochial.
Repeating High Road that would be a laugh, then repeating the steamie too - quality from STV! |

![]() If so, I'd expect to see all of ITV's FA Cup games on STV, simply because if they've been paid for, they'd might as well show them. Not sure if they'll show England games (Scotland friendly excepted, natch), because that's likely to spark a political debate. |

Def. agree with you on that. Quote:
My main gripe with this lot and Border region better be very careful is how STV will actually cope with this added region, but as I say you just got to look at us under STV North its laughable so if they take part of Border then I don't think they will be "immune" from it all, but oh well this is STV for us anyway!
Repeating High Road that would be a laugh, then repeating the steamie too - quality from STV! I wouldn't put it past them - but they would have to pay the actors so cheapskate STV won't do it. Quote:

It is my understanding that since STV and UTV became affiliates of itv they pay a fixed fee for all network programmes, therefore they pay for the football even if they do not show it, so unless showing a movie repeat gets more viewing figures, and therefore commands more advertising revenue, its just plain stupid not showing it.

Ah yes, but remember we are talking about a channel run by La La, Dipsy & a.n. others - the same channel that has the same sense to:- 1. Show other films instead of the networked premieres. Then bum up the film when (and if) it eventually reaches STV a couple of years later... 2. Stop/start programmes with no explanation to the viewers - Ray Mears, Poms In Paradise, Cornwall (new this week - disappeared next week)... This is the land of STV - a shameful shadow of where they once were. |

I see STV are celebrating 30 years of Taggart (coincidence is it not?) that its been pretty much shelved for now and viewers have to Vote for their favourite (so I guess more programme disruption is on its way .... might have known)
, in saying rather watch them again over on Alibi ![]() Oh and as for that Scotland Tonight ad - are we serious? Why have an ad with I believe its Ford Kiernan from Chewin the Fat and some other guy (i never seen it that night but its up on youtube) throwing water and Rhona says "actions speaks louder than words" yet surprised no Security appeared and Rhona just stepped back - Scotland Tonight more like the Jeremy Kyle Scotland show (and noted mostly in the ad John and Rhona just nod )I aint for this ad to be shown during the day being honest - either should have edited that part out but to keep it in during the day when children could be watching is setting a bad example (and no I aint part of the PC Brigade but I do know the difference between what is right and wrong) |

They have an absolute brass neck saying 30 years! It hasn't been on our screens for years. BTW repeats are currently on the Drama channel. Quote:
Sounds ridiculous, viewers in Scotland are just as keen on film premieres as in England and I wouldn't be happy if the premiere of Skyfall was replaced by Scottish Passport.
Quite possibly the ridiculous scenario you cite may happen! STV (I believe) have still to show Public Enemies - premiered on the network last year (not on STV), repeated a few months ago on ITV4, now being repeated shortly on ITV - surprise surprise no show from STV - instead another movie. They are complete and utter halfwits.

Looking at their output now and where they were just 10 years ago - they should be ashamed of themselves:- Their tacky fillers like Scottish Passport & Scotland's Greatest... - absolutely woeful! And sold round the world? I hardly think so. They have, as you say "got lucky" with Catchphrase & Antiques - ok to the ITV network, but again - round the world sales? As for Animal 999 - fair enough it may be acceptable but again not even networked, and I can't see viewers in Detroit being interested in a swan that got it's neck hurt in somebody's back garden in Lennoxtown! Where are the new dramas, the contemporary documentaries, the period dramas etc... - that would appeal to the home market, the ITV network & crucially abroad? They are gone - and may never return, for this is a broadcaster that failed to invest a decade ago - and now they are nothing more than a 2nd rate outfit in a sea of channels. They go on about their Nightshift 50p text programme, their cash call phone ins where you can "win £4000" - they are awful, truly awful. STV you are killing us...

STV you are killing us... ![]() I'll agree that why STV has thought of these things to even "compete" with ITV on the other hand but again it'll be - we can't afford to do it (funny how then Taggart is suddenly being mentioned NOW its been dead in the water since ITV axed it but if STV are planning on going round one more time hopefully it could be laid to rest ... but again viewers will have lost interest in it anyway really .... something new perhaps they should be thinking of??) I believe STV is still obsessed though with Taggart being its only lifesaver and keeping them afloat, surprised why Rebus was never continuing during the farce but again I put it down to as Taggart was the strongest and keep flogging it about, but again at same time they just relied on imports for its "dramas" (of course not even made by them) just like their other "buy ins" (Nat Geo/RTE/MTV) - just a few but of course STV "label" these shows as "one of their own" ... sorry its not as simple as that, just a simple google search and you could find the original programming names/shows from their sites ... ie "incredible stories" (in my opinion) is "banged up abroad" and with another random Nat Geo show (again its Nat Geo that deserves the credit on these shows not STV) the cash giveaway is more annoying win £3000! (really?) at £1.53 per call and £1.12 text message - who you trying to kid? add it all up there is the money changer ![]() Nightshift - what a load of tosh, archival clips/flyovers and re-runs of dated "the hour" interviews and "dishes" and again its money machine text line surprise surprise Scottish Passport - yes STV enjoys reviving a dated programme don't they? - same again possibly costs nothing to make and they just send "scottish" celebs on trips ... but at the end of the "trips" - your told where they stayed (no price) and to go to the website If STV had the balls to +1 ITV in a way it would have invested in better programming for its area and half decent dramas - none of this "animal 999" or "scotland revealed" it comes more across as if STV itself is aiming its viewers to "stay" in Scotland and not to go to the enemy known as "england" the channel needs to buck up its ideas if not I wonder how bad it'll become in the next 10 years? Still the same? or will we have a channel having more creative ideas? (I am all for new drama and programming if its better than ITV but from the output I see I prefer when I can watch ITV) |

Not everyone in Scotland wants to watch the FA cup apart from the final maybe.
If people up here are that bothered about watching the FA cup I think BT sports will be showing some FA cup games for anyone thats got BT broadband. Also im sure some pubs will show some FA cup games via ITV on the Sat Dish. Anyway after this season some of the FA cup games will be moving back to the BBC. Darren |

The problem with STV was it never developed beyond making the yawn inducing soap Take The High Road and Taggart for the network. It could have taken a leaf from its neighbour Tyne Tees book and specialised in period drama and music shows. Taggart undoubtedly was a good show but STV became overdependent on it for network and export sales and when it faltered, had no replacement.

But why did STV not make any other programming during the farce with ITV than rely on imports I will never understand (well they did but it was mostly BBC rip offs ie Scotland Revealed was more like Britain from above and the Greatest Scot/Album were really absolute crap - album was the worst offender trying to use "big names" and when most of them lived in England or Australia but were "born" here counted - yeah right) I wonder was Scotland's Greatest Album a "multi million" seller? Doubt it possibly people sussed them out that the album was just crap

Darren I remember STV's excuse was something like "we are going to show more Scottish programmes for our audience" and then they turn round and show Lewis, Midsomer Murders and even Jaws the film was on one time when the other ITV regions were showing an FA Cup game. Of course none of these shows are even remotely Scottish I can understand not showing the England national games but even I wouldn't mind watching them at times, not everybody is brainwashed in Scotland about not liking the English

I'd rather watch an FA Cup tie on STV than something like Midsomer Murders or Lewis repeats. Really irritating that you have to use the ITV region channels on the Skybox to watch a competition like the FA Cup up here
