Here's a recap of the rest of this week's STV OPT OUTS (up to & incl. Friday) - I'll post the weekend's and next week's later today or tomorrow.
![]() WED. 5TH:- WILD BRITAIN WITH RAY MEARS (7 of 10 ) , FILM PREMIERE (delayed from ITV in the past? ) - MISS PETTIGREW LIVES FOR A DAY, SCOTTISH PASSPORT SHORT primetime/evening on STV, Live Football - England v Denmark on ITV. SCOTLAND TONIGHT. SPORTS LIFE STORIES, THE NIGHTSHIFT on STV, Football Highlights/Corfu/Gambling/Film - Burn After Reading/Nightscreen/Jeremy Kyle on ITV. THUR. 6TH:- SCOTLAND TONIGHT, FILM - BURN AFTER READING, THE NIGHTSHIFT on STV, The Cube/Gambling/Tonight/Nightscreen/Jeremy Kyle on ITV. FRI. 7TH:- MOVIEJUICE primetime on STV, Student Nurses on ITV. THE NIGHTSHIFT on STV, Gambling/Film - The Land That Time Forgot/Nightscreen on ITV. I noted that "I didn't know what about Britain" was delayed til 11.35pm on STV during the week - if STV can do that for that show why can they not do that with shows missed at that slot? Makes more sense to me but I will hazard a guess it'll probably soon be dropped quietly off the face of the earth knowing this lot. |

I have to admit I caught Student Nurses on ITV it is actually a not bad programme, whether STV have delayed this I don't know.

Student Nurses has done reasonably well in the ratings (up against Eastenders at that time) . "I didn't know that about Britain" was fine - one thing in its favour re a complete/uninterrupted run on STV is that both it and Countrywise (which STV is showing at 8pm) are both 8 episodes long - so prob. less chance of it being chopped/moved around - I suspect both shows will run their course on STV & ITV from start to finish this time. |

Well I hope it does as you know what STV are like if something of "theirs" pops up they will cause disruption to the flow! Again this could have worked for Ray Mears/Cornwall at time of original broadcast or is this STV realising this now??
Yes, the timing seems to be crucial with them - no doubt if there is something else (Burns night - we're ok that's past , St. Andrews day - mmm too far away , charity STV appeal ....) to interrupt it then that will happen!I do agree with you re Ray Mears/Cornwall - they would have been better just delaying it and screening it later that night (as they are doing with "I Never Knew...") straight after Scotland Tonight - airing it on another night/day is just a recipe for disaster. |

Can they not provide programming after midnight ... oh wait they are but its dated clips in place, there goes films during the week - so whats the point in STV we may as well catch films on other channels or for that matter look at its competitior ITV and its sister stations |

Can I remind people, under OFCOM regulations, STV must provide around at 50 hours of peak hour programming, which means opt will continue no matter what.
Of course does that mean we have good programmes..... well..... its a very mix bag. I do wish " Scottish Action" would come back, it would provide a very useful programme etc and would be off a better standards that what we have. It could become like Scotland Today. |

I do wish " Scottish Action" would come back, it would provide a very useful programme etc and would be off a better standards that what we have. It could become like Scotland Today. The STV alternatives are far from what I would tune into if I am honest - I have been watching Student Nurses and I Never Knew That About Britain (on ITV time this one in particular) and I rather watch them to the offer STV give us! Really STV telling us what to do with "leftover" food? This from a company thats tight fisted with its own money, yet I wonder how many of its staff is careful with its "leftovers"? Give us some half decent shows we can watch or network with ITV than its crap offerings. STV is really an embarassment for Scotland and it just shows how bad it is decaying - I would not be surprised if STV public at these times go looking elsewhere for programming like I do and go to ITV or another channel - yet back in the day I was more of an avid Grampian TV viewer (was it maybe programming back then was better - well in my mind and the opt outs were in but the scheduled programming would still be on schedule?? If we look at it now if ITV's shows are missed they are either shown later in year or basically thrown around or let me hazard the most obvious ITV will do the repeat run on at 4pm or its sister stations whilst STV do nothing about it? STV can't keep to a schedule with some shows I wonder why??) Why not have a programme that actually uses its STV North staff than everything coming from the Clyde? Give me a programme with someone from my area (excluding "charity" gigs) as its beyond pathetic for a channel supposedly standing for Scotland and its default in Scotland is Clyde - there is MORE to Scotland than Glasgow! |

To answer that one as I gave up in the end ..... STV play "pick n mix" with Midsomer Murders, recently they have been sticking to scheduled ITV Midsomer Murders but if we have no footy and its on opt out we may see a John Nettle episode or if by chance it is one of the updated ones (possibly earlier if not been seen to STV public) |

Oh yeah remember him ) so let me guess its about saving money on electric - will there be suggestions of using wall cavity insulation and things like that?? Come on gimme a break here and how will that exactly sell to other networks?? Of course the other UK networks won't be interested in this (if they wanted this shown in future) so in short another cheap filler since bosses at STV have no real idea on making half decent shows for Scotland and to the rest of UK - they deserve a gold medal for this!

I still wouldn't mind knowing what is the reason behind "nightshift" being on every night now during the week? Can they not provide programming after midnight ... oh wait they are but its dated clips in place, there goes films during the week - so whats the point in STV we may as well catch films on other channels or for that matter look at its competitior ITV and its sister stations 1. We do indeed pay the BBC quite a bit of cash a year to provide this programming. The BBC does not exist to make a profit, STV does. Despite this it provides a nightly political programme of such quality that it has forced the BBC to ditch Newsnight Scotland and create an entirely new show. I accept a lot of the Scottish programming isn't great, but they're not going to make much money out of those anyway, so why throw the cash in? I think there's a bit of rose-tinted spectacles going on about these glorious local programmes from years back anyway - the likes of Scottish Action and Top Club looked dated then, never mind now. 2. ITV has a potential audience of above 50 million. STV doesn't even have the whole of Scotland. So there's a bit more money coming in. Beyond that, ITV controls the network and can get whatever it wants on there. STV has to take a huge risk to make a programme that ITV may not be interested in anyway (see Taggart), hence why it has started producing cheaper programmes for other channels instead. 3. I don't understand why The Nightshift winds people up so much. There is at least an element of programming there, as opposed to the constant run of Jackpot 24/7 and Teleshopping provided by ITV. As documented, there is no money to be made from advertising at that time of night so it makes no sense to put a big effort in there. |

Quantity over quality really (this goes for all networks) but STV is the worst - nothing but cheap telly telling its viewers what they think they should do, basically double standards there is it not?? |

i'll answer back - #3 its basic lazy scheduling why not show missed shows in that time - care to look at likes of Pick/Challenge to name a couple run shows during the night, they were able to before "teleshopping" appeared heard of a testcard?? why not bring that back and close but still STV have ramped it up to seven nights a week of hell with this show (how surprising)

STV does not cover the south of Scotland. That's owned by ITV Border. I don't get your double standards point. STV is a business, it exists to make money for its shareholders. At the same time though, if the viewers didn't like it then they wouldn't watch it, viewing figures would go down, advertisers wouldn't be interested and they'd be in trouble. |
