I knew that too about ITV Border is not covered by STV but my main area I am concerned about is Grampian but you don't see my point do you?? Even if STV did take over ITV Border it'll go the same way we went under STV - I wonder how much uproar they would be if some ITV programming was missed and filled with "filler"

Yes STV is a business so is Sky Channel 4 Channel 5 and even the BBC - if viewers don't watch they go elsewhere obviously STV only cater for its shareholders it does not care for its viewers as I have mentioned countless times I was a genuine Grampian TV viewer and the way STV is and my perspective of it is its been ran into the ground but my opinion of this doesn't get taken into account its blantly ignored and that we are geniunely meant to be happy for the way STV is ran. You might be happy with it but I ain't and as for Scotland Tonight you called quality did you not see the rammy of a debate? STV felt embarassed and what did Rhona do (according to the highlights) just mump and say "one at a time - viewers can't hear" - sorry but you control the situation you don't let it get out of control but it did but again it was for ratings thats all it mattered and guess what viewers did complain about it.

Time for another update - and NO SURPRISES, as guess what - STV interrupt/halt another run of shows (COUNTRYWISE) - was there any announcement on Monday (24th) to say it won't be on next week/when returning? Probably not - yet a primetime show going out at 8pm suddenly gets stopped?! Once again STV prove they treat viewers with contempt... so we can add COUNTRYWISE (stopped at "4 of 8") to the list of shows stopped/changed/disappeared from STV schedules - River Monsters, Cornwall, Poms In Paradise etc... etc... Utter utter shambles from a PSB - shameful.

Since you posted Too Good Too Waste - had to laugh at Sunday Mail 7 days Guide info mentions "Chick Young checks out if Chips and Pakora can save you money" - sorry but what planet does STV land on as that ain't gonna come in cheap no matter where you live in Scotland and if your feeding a family with it again it ain't cheap! STV must think we are that thick on prices to be believe anything (if your one of those people may I advise look out the window with more of an open mind thank you )

Re Countrywise - 4 episodes available on STV player (the 4 already screened), none as you say on ITV player - probably because it was originally (in its complete entire run of course!) shown on ITV I think late last year.

The Lie - Seen the trailer for it and it just reeks of cheap homegrown pap. Expect umpteen trailers and mentions of it between now and next Monday.

I think ITV Player has shows up for 1 month then off so yes probably right been aired off tomorrow as with STV with Countrywise after a month they will forget it as usual

It probably will be pap - probably using the same studio they use for pap "catchphrase" so in other words STV is now having a go at quizzes once more the last one they did was called "postcode lottery" it was OK with Carol Smillie but after time it became boring, medicore so I will presume this will turn out the same and again is this all STV can do?? They do need to buck their ideas up whats next a cheap knock off another programme??

The Scotsman in November 2013 said the quiz show was being filmed in Dublin. I guess we should remember Stv only have a studio the size of my boxroom.

Dublin?? your probably right they only use one studio to do "scotland tonight" in .... where is Catchphrase recorded?? (I assumed it was Glasgow)

Catchphrase is recorded in Itv's London studios.

Wednesday: According to the tv mag the film Always runs 12.05-2.00am, then Nightscreen 2.00-6.00am. I was wondering if this was a misprint but then realised Nightscreen usually runs 5.00-6.00am on STV, so possibly they have decided to extend it.




What a shambles - one programme recorded in Dublin, the other London! And STV give the impression that it's a "coup" for them to secure a (in the case of Catchphrase) networked show - little do most viewers know that nothing is recorded/filmed in Glasgow/Scotland. What signals does that send out about the state of our national PSB when they can't even film/record a game show in their own country?! Disgraceful.

Harbour Lives - answer can't be half assed to show it (even ITV having the courtesy to repeat it late) but the answer is be as cheap as possible til midnight

Nightscreen/Nightshift - on both parties none of them should be doing it if I am honest but STV are the worst rehashing old clips during the night - if they can reuse old clips every night why not put on a programme? If its down to low viewers/costs funny that Channel 4 and most of the sky channels (now on freeview) run programming during the night its ridiculous in this day and age an excuse for closedown is running Nightscreen/Teleshopping/Nightshift - save the bother just close!

It shows you what little I knew what had been recorded, irony of it though is when you see the ad for "catchphrase" they keep saying "STV's Catchphrase" but wait its recorded in London but just you lot can have a "tag" onto a programme you think your geniuses?? Get your fingers out and produce decent dramas you can sell to the Scottish/UK/Worldwide than be all cheap with it all!

Nightscreen/Nightshift: Like you I am no fan of either STVs half assed attempts at fulfilling it's PSB obligations nor ITVs inane gambling drivel too - for our PSB both outputs are shameful to say the least. To think back to the 1980s/1990s when ITV/STV launched its "through the night" programming to a great fanfare, offering films, first run shows and repeats. Now they are behind so many other "digital channels" - who can screen some sort of programming until at least 3/4am - just this week we have had another 2 launches on Freeview doing just that (CBS Reality & Movies4men).

I don't believe the audiences aren't there - maybe in the tens of thousands rather than hundreds of thousands ok, but still a saleable propostion to local businesses/advertisers to run ads for the kudos of "being on tv" at a fraction of the rates chargeable during primetime., or offer the slots at a fraction extra to those primetime advertisers. Then show watchable programmes/repeats until 3/4am and perhaps teleshopping/text info from 4-6am.

I did note that this week the 2 "new" freeview channels I actually welcome them if I am honest, I know most stuff on freeview is full of repeats but I am more of someone who would rather see repeats of old shows to the drivel we see on screen now.

the MTV networks do the "teleshopping" stuff now as well and since they have gone "entertainment" thats their excuse but even their "music" channels do it (why and whats the point?)

I do believe there is an audience out there who would still watch at that time of night but for a lame attempt in it all showing Nightshift (which includes texting at 50p message) Nightscreen (ITV info) and basically gambling/teleshopping, its an embarassment I find it for UK tv as a whole and it is pathetic - if so they are making money from it where exactly is it going to?? MTV for starters seem to throw it away on crap shows but yet VH1 is still struggling for an update! STV I don't know as anything they produce is cheaply made with the profits that they make (shock/surprise?) ITV has Simon Cowell Inc, give ITV a bit of credit they do make cheap programming but god they make half decent dramas at the same time - look at STV our "homegrown" shows are a joke and as for "catchphrase" being a networked show .... who is actually laughing? It aint the viewer!

Channel 4/5 - I admit they 2 stations in my mind are going through a phase (no idea what) but Channel 4 at least shows programming at night and channel 5 yes has gambling but some nights seem to begin showing programmes after 3am! Sky varies of course but on its "freeview" channels pick, challenge they do have some decent stuff on - it makes you really wonder what has happened to our stations??

If its all down to "greed" of advertisers/shareholders is it not about time that these people came out with better ideas for the stations? Than sit on asses milking in the money over such shoddy programming! I believe in my own opinion what viewers want or ask about don't get listened to and its down to whenever it suits the station.

An example I will give is I written a letter of complaint to MTV regarding its playlisting in some of its programming as well as gave them a piece of my mind regarding Teleshopping what happened?? Nothing! Til this day I still have not had a reply on my views but I presume if you give the station "credit" it will be the usual "why thank you for showing interest....." again it really is down to "selective" hearing and what they want to hear (could call it in a way reverse psychology) but wow I have really had my eyes opened in a world we live in today (never use to be but you can see the littlest things make you realise)

I honestly don't have a problem with PSB channels leasing/hiiring out broacasting time and showing teleshopping at say 4-6am, but for the "broadcaster of the year" ITV and it's partner in this crime STV to start airing gambling/teleshopping/text flyovers from midnight is a disgrace. They are an embarassment if they can't deliver half decent programming to their PSB audience until around 3/4am - there simply is no excuse for it given the national prominence they have - they are not some 2 bit digital channels broadcasting from some industrial estate in Surrey - the are both meant to be jewels in the crown and shining examples of British PSB.

It is a joke in all honesty MrSirs - all that matters is the shareholders raking in the money, viewers less catered for but as usual the option is either switch stations/internet or do other things - I would probably guess if things don't improve TV will eventually move online OR companies like Amazon/Netflix will be the way to go in future but the tv stations themselves are the biggest losers in this as greed is all they want.

I was surprised by ITV getting that "award" yet ITV2-4 do the same thing "teleshopping" during the night, I did wonder where STV's own version of "channel of the year" was obviously must not be involved in the awards (or if they probably those that control these awards knew STV is a pathetic station) - but to turn this another way surely STV should be aiming for these awards? Than just sit back and not care? I will guess it just shows you how out of touch STV are

That awful debate is for the young people, and be STV has a free slots since its during the FA cup. unless you wanted STV to dropped a network programme?

STV can't stick to a networked programme really - care to look as to where Countrywise/Cornwall has went? Answer due to "the lie" its off for 8 weeks will it return? Your guess as good as mine and what about Cornwall they have not completed that yet either or will the viewer wait til its screened on ITV3 or be on at 4pm during the week courtesy of ITV!

I am more confused of where STV are meant to meeting their quota - if its meant to be during the week between 8-10pm and other times its random? Why not they scrap Nightshift and actually air programmes during the night so they can meet their quota how about that?

STV's programming is just crap - we have Scotland's Real Heroes again this year - wow we have people fighting in wars, they hardly get the recognition they deserve but we get programmes like this, Young Scot awards soon and the STV Appeal as well where is the actually programming that is not scraping barrels or where is there a drama that is networked with ITV - wake up people and realise this

EDIT: I'll add this I notice Channel 5 recently has been putting on gambling for at least 1 1/2 hours and resumed programming after 3am (and they closed down say after or before 1am - surprising ain't it Channel 5 can reduce gambling whilst Channel 4 runs during the night and they too are ran by ads are they not?)

There does seem to be a lot of grumbling about STV and from what I've seen on here, a lot of its programmes are dull and parochial and they'll even interrupt a popular ITV show with something like Scottish Passport. It sort of reminds me of Border in the eighties and nineties, I was awaiting the network premiere of Enter The Dragon and they cancelled it for some mindnumbing highlights of a 0-0 draw in Scotland that no one in England was interested in.
Also I wouldn't put it past STV to show repeats of Take The High Rd late at night as they must have hundreds of episodes of this mindnumbing geriatric fodder in the vaults.
