I was thinking in the more recent past to be honest but that list covers almost 40 years, roughly on average just over 1 network series a year. However I am not even sure all those programmes were networked. Garnock Way definitely wasn't broadcast here.

I do remember several of the shows though, I knew they made kids shows but The Terry Neason Show? you have got me there!

I am aware of the Budgie spinoff Charles Endell Esquire if only because it appears in the list of worst TV shows ever made.

It's a shame as they clearly do seem to have a history of network programme making (albeit not prolific) but now they make virtually nothing.

Then again the same could be said for Anglia, Central, etc etc!

Not denying the varying quality of much of the BBC's "Scottish" output - or the past glories of Grampian etc, but with STV constantly banging its own gong about their Scottish, home grown, opt out programmes, I want to know why NONE of them made the list provided in the original link?

I would have expected Vet School to get a mention - it was entirely new, well edited and interesting.

It is for network commissions not programmes that are only shown on Stv.

They do have a 90 minute drama that will air over Christmas across the whole of the UK, though I suspect it was just part of the ITV/STV settlement

Yes which filmed in London with a full English cast & crew. Apparently Stv are going to opt out of it as it is not relevant to Scotland and are showing an "Underbelly" Christmas special in it's place.

It is probably just an ITV plc commission in that case, much like if they commissioned talkback THAMES or Endemol to make a show for them. They have to commission at least 25% of their programming from independent producers.

An STV Productions programme is running on BBC Two next week at 5.15 about antiques, you wouldn't expect it to be shown on STV though. Much like Come Dine With Me is a Granada/ITV Studios production but broadcast on C4.

STV North and South Limited are the broadcasting arms of STV Group.

Much like ITV Broadcasting Limited and ITV Studios with ITV plc.

I know they are a Production Company AND a Broadcaster.
Yet they have been banging on for about 3 years about how English dramas are not relevant to Scotland but have shown Irish, American & Australian ones in their place. Last year they opted out of Downton Abbey as it wasn't relevant to Scotland & showed new Scottish drama, Taggart, in its place.
Now 12 months on Stv are now not making any new Scottish drama but making an English one instead:

STV need to go to the ITV network central with ideas and try and grab some funding for series.

I believe if there can get itv to cough up to pay stv can make some decent and proper series.

STV could still provide other better regional telly, why not bring back Report/Scotland today reports,Special etc? or even Scottish Action...

Regarding "regional" - I am in the Grampian area and wish they brought back "north tonight" was way better than the "split" news we get at 6.15pm (to me that has ruined their news and yes I know opinions vary on this)

Regarding you mention ITV to cough up for STV - STV announce profits (i think was 3-6 months ago) and have they even made anything new? ie drama taggart but (no) - "the hour" and all the "greatest" and "football" years were "new" but they were not expensive to make

I would suggest STV format itself again and begin again ... to me I feel the channel is lost and since they took over Grampian I feel its gone downhill (example - I can see STV news at 6 - glasgow on VM - looks better presentation/graphics - us with Grampian or as its called "STV North" we still using the old material graphics) - so surely as STV is a network between STV Edinburgh/Glasgow/Aberdeen - it should be networked alot better than "providing" the other news services with better technology etc and leaving the north to wait "3-6 months" as its a trial (supposedly)

I agree with you that STV started to go down hill, it was around 2002 the same time when ITV plc come along and Sandy ross moved on to a new role.

Point about the news is somewhat strange but I do understand what has happened. The reason North tonight was not done was because the music/graphic/titles and the spilt are all doing a 6months trail, and I understand why stv dont wish to waste addition money.

Edinburgh set is some what ER? nice but it tattie and does need to be improved but it does the job for trail. Titles were also brand new but were done to help explain new presenters etc.

I would put money on it that North tonight will get overhaul around xmas this will be the same time when any minor ( I HOPE ) changes are down, IE consultation has highlight any issues......

It is strange that they don't want to use any additional money to fund the North more like! - I was lucky enough to see briefly what the STV Glasgow news looked like on VM as I assumed their titles were kept but then again when they do the "sport" and "weather" on STV North/Grampian we DO get these "new" titles but the graphics are "dated" to Glasgow ... still confused why they are doing a trial on these bulletins ... mind you they still need to sort out the "split" bulletins for Sky viewers as well as sort the +1 feed so people DO get their local bulletin - if that issue is not sorted I would guess it would or if not put people off watching their news altogether (guessing here) - its more like saying correct state of mind yet no idea on how to solve issues!

I remember I think its happened twice in my area that when STV news went to "local" the Dundee area had the North coverage for a week! ... yet it appeared they were slow to resolve issue sooner (was not until the next week presenter said "apologies to people living in Dundee who have not been getting bulletins" - so it took a week to resolve issue? - surely if error was not picked up by tuesday or wednesday then you know to warn the viewers of affected area not getting the split?)

I vaguely remember what STV did in 1999 even before and after always watched BBC Scotland at that time (hogmanay) or partied to The Box and MTV also prince brought that out didnt he lol "1999" "Im gonna party like its 1999" lol

I get what you mean and it's fair to say that they themselves should come up with some ideas for Scottish drama that they feel are relevant to Scotland and the rest of the country then put it to ITV Network Limited, which of course STV are a member of. I get no sense of dislike here towards Scottish programming, none at all.

This is nothing new though. Yorkshire Television often used to produce programmes that were not Yorkshire centric. Home to Roost springs to mind, it even had images of London in the titles.

You really are better off staying with the older set etc until there bugs are sorted out with the "trail" set.

With the Web stuff, its turns out the Aberdeen team may in fact have some control over this.
