Nice to see STV coverage of the results is full of tech problems already. Looks like the set at Ingliston cost around £30 to build too.

I started watching their coverage and gave up after 20 minutes - utterly amateurish set, looked as if it was made out of cereal packets - with guests squeezed onto a 2 seater couch. OK on guests and MPs/MSPs who were on, but oh dear it all came across as CHEAP. Compared to the BBC coverage - classy, professional looking sets - big sweeping tables, cameras, lots of people in the background - really top notch.... good presenter and guests. Miles ahead - it was steak pie v mince pie!

I caught 10 mins I had to switch off - catch the first report at end we didn't see reporter say her name and it froze for a few seconds then back to John McKay somewhere in Edinburgh

Did anyone spot that the picture for John reporting in Edinburgh was "up" you seen a black bar going along bottom of screen

I ended up watching Sky News til 11pm then hopped over to LBC (DAB) for the rest ... and well the rest is history really

Why are most of the idents and trailers for upcoming STV shows in Standard Def?? Do STV not have the equipment to show all their own in-house output in HD??

Even their HD output seems to be some hybrid between SD & HD.

Its called "dodgy" HD , even their own so called HD programming is crap - looks more done in SD but this is STV you should know that by now

GMB as it wasnt just Referendum news there was other news from around the world. It would have been better if it wasn't so misty as the view behind them would have been beautiful.

I admit I don't even watch Brekkie telly these days (off chance LBC this morning), I assume GMB was focusing on everything as well as Referendum whilst STV was mostly focused on Referendum. Supposedly STV Breakfast this morning was made by ITV Borders Scotland (can't find link) so I am surprised at that!

Really? I can only assume that was so it was still classed as an ITV production to satisfy the licence requirements.

Found link http://news.stv.tv/scotland-decides/...esults-on-stv/ I don't know how the "technical" side of it works (regarding licence requirements)

Same link above mentions an Stv News Special at 6.30pm tonght...now no longer on the listings so can only imagine Stv were thinking\hoping for a Yes vote.

Unusual for them just to drop it if it was originally planned? , in saying that I think STV News at 6 last night was on for a full hour (this was when things were starting to kick off in Glasgow George Square from what I had seen on STV then later on Sky News)

Indeed. Wonder why they dropped it as i'd have thought that all the crew would have been earmarked and satellite links booked. With discussions over timetable, Gordon Browns speech, the George Sq disruptions and further chat over Alex Salmonds resignation, i'm sure they had enough to fill the half hour.

The BBC had an extended edition of Reporting Scotland on at 6.40-7 which would have clashed with the stv news special.so that could be the reason

An advert tonight on STV said that the STV Appeal will be taking place on the 9th of October which is a Thursday and also the night of England v San Marino. So does that mean we are no longer getting England games or is it a one off. There is a chance it could be streamed on STV's website or even shown on STV Glasgow but they will probably also show The STV Appeal

I think this will be a match STV avoids for this instead - as for footy they cannot do that .. why should STV Glasgow get that football match whilst the rest of Scotland misses out? (it maybe streamed on their website or better yet go to 853 on VM ) I assume it may just be a one off but I can see some viewers with VM/Sky switching over to ITV to watch the footy instead of that. As for the STV Appeal why broadcast it on 2 channels? Seems a pointless idea on that one! (would viewers of STV Glasgow like to see it on there or would they like to see other programming instead? But knowing STV - The Appeal is priority and what ever is scheduled normally on its local channel will be abandoned for that night (I do hope I am wrong!)

I wonder then if that's a one off, given the whole appeal thing was pushed back (because of the referendum?).

To be fair to STV this game won't be particularly competitive (probably be a cricket score for England) and so going for the appeal on that night probably makes sense. Football fans might have been more annoyed if the opposition had been more high profile. I know it's not ideal, and again falls into the predictable pattern of STV interrupting national schedules. IMO I can live with it this time round! Wonder if they might show highlights later on after the news, as per prob. ITV will?

I can't see STV showing the highlights programme (they probably got a programme lined up to fill that gap) seems pointless to me to show highlights without showing the match, may as well just see some of it on the news than wait

How is it pointless to show the highlights without showing the game bbc have Match of the day which is highlights and dont show the matches live. Last season bbc scotland showed Scotland home game highlights and never showed the home games live

Well knowing STV if they don't show the matches they replace it with other programming. ie after Scotland Tonight it'll be say "the dales" or something - STV showing highlights of certain matches is not exactly like the BBC is it? Its like tossing a coin heads - do we show it? or tails - do we bother? Or since its the Appeal night they probably have a highlights show of that instead? Its not rocket science (and I was more of pointing out what STV would DO)

What's the alternative for STV? They are effectively an opt-out of ITV; if they didn't do any opt-outs they'd do nothing. Scotland Tonight has certainly proven its worth for the referendum (I'd be curious how it did in ratings vs Scotland 2014 on BBC2 which, despite liking Sarah Smith, I found rather stuffy by comparison). STV Appeal is exactly the kind of thing a PSB should be doing! The real shame is that ITV regions in England don't opt-out of the network for local PSB content.

Quite. Only on this thread is showing highlights without showing the game 'pointless'. If anything, showing the game and then the highlights of the game you've just been able to watch is more questionable in purpose!

it's interesting that Scotland 2014 continues to go head to head with Scotland Tonight at 10.30pm, and as you say would be curious to know how both are doing ratings wise.

You think with Motorsport coming from Knockhill STV would pick it up (STV are far from interested in that), in saying that they have been networking ITV's rugby recently (which previous was ignored) but I think for now it'll be ITV4 for that and add the film a +1 week again?

Who is launching the Appeal night is it Lorraine Kelly once more or is the one that goes up Sauchiehall St
