Who is launching the Appeal night is it Lorraine Kelly once more or is the one that goes up Sauchiehall St ”

Yes, I noticed they had started showing the English rugby, same as ITV. Similar pattern emerging here like them now showing the England games (except the San Marino one!).

Appeal - see it's an Andrea Brymer hosting the 30 min. prog next Friday. See she does the STV news in the north.

Yes the only time STV ever use their resources from STV North but other than that we are more of a part time station on at 1.55pm/6pm/10.40pm weeknights and weekends depends really as last saturday news came from Glasgow!

I wonder how long the English rugby will last? I wonder if viewers have been asking STV to show it?

I noted this on +1 on freeview/cable is the 7.59pm bulletin meant to come from Glasgow/Aberdeen? As tonight it came from Edinburgh (well the playout)

Interesting re the rugby - odd that it's appeared around the same time as them starting to show England games!

Re news - not sure about the 7.59pm bulletin, I do know that if you watch the main Scottish news at 6-6.30pm on +1 (i.e. channel 33 Freeview) at 7-7.30pm then through here in the west the news comes from Edinburgh!

Coincedince rugby/footy in a package??

With us on +1 bulletin is as normal for Aberdeen but we get the full Aberdeen bulletin (including their "local" as they say) Dundee is missed out, was just strange tonight seeing a presenter from Edinburgh on +1 and not Aberdeen(?)
and what you mentioned above makes no sense why they do that! (not you - STV)

The Hour against River City? A big no no for a new show like that against a veteran show like RC.

BBC2 Scotland had to preempt the 11 year old RC last year due to Clutha crash /Mandela highlights while the ailing 1 1/2 year old sitcom Hebburn, struggling at the bottom of the ratings nationally and lower than RC (owned outright by BBC, whereas Steve Coogan's company and some other company produced Hebburn) stayed. It made the loyal RC fans, who've watched since the start, feel that Hebburn was getting special treatment, and the RC dropping didn't help Hebburn out of the cellar and it was axed a few months later after it's 2nd season.

One of those loyal RC fans was Lorraine Kelly, and sadly for Victoria Elliott, having a role on Hebburn (she played Denise in the show) meant she got little or no support from the ITV daytime shows for her role as Jordy in I Can't Sing. Lisa McGrillis got no support from LK either for her role on George Gently, and like Victoria, was on Hebburn too.

Regionalising +1 services, with a fraction of the viewers of the main service is expensive, it won't make economic sense.

The Edinburgh bulletin is chosen to be on +1 across STV Central rather than Glasgow because some folk watching in the East via Freeview will get their signal from Black Hill, which broadcasts Glasgow. It gives those viewers a chance to see their local news (albeit an hour late).

I kinda of knew that but on +1 last week where was the Aberdeen bulletin? Why was Edinburgh on? (7.59pm bulletin only), as on the STV +1 I get the full Aberdeen bulletin Dundee is gone - bit of a weird one if you ask me? Or is this something that will probably happen in future that either all news comes from Glasgow or Edinburgh?

So for my "local" news on +1 (7.59pm) its now Edinburgh? Whats Edinburgh got to do with us in the North East of Scotland? Aberdeen is our default not Edinburgh

Ah, no idea - can only assume a technical fault for that one? Since it's only a minute or so on a +1 service I don't suppose it's too big a deal...

lol .... I admit I have never paid that much attention to the 60 sec bulletin on +1 just thought it was seeing the presenter saying "this is the news from Edinburgh" , if its a technical fault would you think those at STV would notice? Just baffled me lol

Nope, RC hasn't been axed altogether. But last year, it lost it's Sunday evening repeat on BBC2 Scotland with no explanation of a rescheduling or to go to iPlayer because of the Clutha crash/Nelson Mandela funeral preempting programmes.

However on the times they tossed aside River City for the Clutha/Mandela stuff they kept the Jim Moir/Gina McKee sitcom Hebburn on the air, even though it hadn't been on as long as River City (it had only been into it's 2nd season) and was lower rated than RC and lower rated nationally (hence NI preempting it altogether on Sun). Also, the BBC didn't own Hebburn compared to River City, as Steve Coogan's company Baby Cow made it with another company.

It didn't help Hebburn's ratings with the River City thing - Hebburn was cancelled about a few months after the RC preemptions for it. And it ended up with LK refusing to support Victoria Elliott and Lisa McGrillis as I mentioned earlier.

I don't have channel but why is the STV Appeal airing on the local channel in Glasgow? Viewers will see it on STV if they plan to watch it - airing it on 2 channels in my mind is a waste of time (I assume the STV Edinburgh is doing the same then?), glad to have been proved wrong on the England game highlights

I dont think STV Edinburgh has launched yet.

I take it STV Glasgows presenters will be doing bits for the appeal

5 Jan 2015 STV Edinburgh launches (but in future it will I reckon)

But then will they not be "simulcast" on normal STV even if some from STV Glasgow appear?

The only real difference is unless they do a cut away segment for us in the North and parts in Glasgow and Edinburgh but I have only watched it once and never again was like walking into a "santas grotto" with dodgy cameras

I think STV should have really kept the appeal out of STV Glasgow if I am honest but then again STV advertise STV Glasgow heavily recently (yet as I have mentioned before its pointless advertising a "local" channel nationally when the rest of Scotland does not get it unless your manually tune it in on Sky)

Thats a first Celeb Squares been on at 11.05pm , mind you I aint been following the show prefer the Challenge episodes of yesteryear, then on Thurs Scotland Tonight then highlights of the footy then Nightshift

ITV has 2 films this week Nutty Professor/Forgetting Sarah Marshall
STV has none .... surely STV can scrap the Nightshift/Screen and air films or something in the smal hours, ITV still makes an effort every night if you take out the "gambling"

No doubt we will get the films at some point!

Re the Appeal:- Notice that it's Lorraine Kelly who is the main host next Thursday evening.

I dont think Cele squares has been a good ratings winner for that slot.

Also films do keep appear on STV, it just are you alot REALLY going to stay up that late to watch them?

Celebrity Squares is only moving to 11pm for one week due to the STV Appeal it will move back to 8pm the week after.

Personally if I was ITV I would have aired it on a Saturday or Sunday when families are more likely to watch tv together.

Celebrity Squares is up against Great British Bake Off on BBC1, a ratings success. As for late night/through the night films I guess you've never heard of insomniacs, shift workers etc...

I agree, seems a bit of a waste airing it at that time.

Solution to it then is put films on after "scotland tonight" or if "scotland tonight" is not on put it on after News at 10. STV did this before "Scotland Tonight" had started, well I stay up some nights to 1am - could range to watching Family Guy/American Dad on BBC 3 or at midnight watching Unsolved Mysteries on CBS:Reality

You do also remember STV are playing some sort of +1 week for films? ie Oceans 11 + 12 (ITV were ahead on that)

I think when it aired originally (in my lifetime of the 90s), it either aired on a Saturday Night (I am sure it did) or it may have aired say about 5.15pm somepoint during the week (I tried google to search but unable too sadly), but I agree it should be on Saturdays instead but at same time it should have been kept to its original format of at least 30 mins (padding it out is just too much - much like most of ITV/STV revivals)

ITV: Celeb Squares/Through The Keyhole
STV: Catchphrase (originally done by ATV/Central)

EDIT: The 1990s revival dotted about the ITV schedule. The 1993 series was consistent, all episodes were shown at 7pm on Friday night at the start of the year. The 1994 series started in the same slot, but seven episodes were shown on summer Saturday nights abutting Scavengers. The 1995 series moved to summer Friday nights, with about nine episodes held over to the following year. (SOURCE: http://www.ukgameshows.com/ukgs/Celebrity_Squares )
