Sky bought the right for the Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland home and away qualifiers. They also bought the England away qualifiers then sold them to ITV. Sadly Scotland games aren't protected like the England home games but they should be. But even if they were, STV wouldn't buy them as they probably couldn't afford them. By the way STV do have the rights to show highlights of Scotland games under the ITV contract so highlights of last nights game should be on at 10.35 on STV.

If thats true then there is nothing on their site to say they are highlighting the Scotland match - seems to be still listed as the England game (unless ITV MAY highlight it in tonights show?) if not then buck lies with STV as to why they did not do a "highlights" show in place

I think it is due to be shown with the highlights of the England game.

I think the highlights of the Poland v Scotland will be shown on Tuesday on Itv 4 at 11.30 pm - 1.00 am

As I pointed out - so its ITV thats showing the highlights from the match not "STV" themselves and the Poland V Scotland highlights are on ITV4 at 11.30pm

Looked into the highlights of Scotland v Georgia - seems like Sky Sports 5 was showing the highlights earlier this morning .... maybe BBC/ITV unable to show it? As far as I was aware of (not a footy fan) was I thought if something was on Sky it would be shown BBC (Scotland) but if this match was contracted by ITV/STV it should have been highlighted (or highlighted tonight)

Seems a lot of people in Scotland don't like STV, which is the only bastion of the old ITV regions on the British mainland. However, from what I hear on DS, it's not very good and they can opt out of the network to show something like Scottish Passport.

Scheduling is one of the issues with this lot at STV - if its their crap opt outs its the scheduling, the viewer can't win, but I bet you though the bosses/management at STV can happily catch up on whats been missed on ITV through their sky/cable though - but of course they wouldn't tell the viewer that!

Yeah STV are good at that - revive old shows yet they are stuck in quite possibly the 1970's and yet its 2014 - can this lot not be creative and come out with better ideas? I know ITV at the moment are the same - coincedince really both sides of STV/ITV are on a "revival" tour but can't think of anything new (whilst I will give ITV credit in the drama department but in general there is nothing that new going for it and thats the same at STV)

ALL? I see in list of opt outs that we have and Mr Sirs puts up - any ideas of when the STV viewer will get some programmes missed? Or will it be they have got it on the "cheap" once more?

I also noticed last night STV "evenings" has a sponsorship since when? I knew they had Penicuik sponsoring the "teatime" slot .... is STV in that need of sponosrships to keep it afloat? I understand programme sponsorships but "channel" sponsorships? Is this a new thing in general these days?

I would imagine that payment doesn't cover programmes made/broadcast before a certain date, so I guess STV would have to pay (a reduced price?) for each programme/series they never broadcast during the time of the dispute with ITV. As time goes by there is probably next to no chance of STV screening those "missed" programmes/series.

Re advertising/sponsorship:- To be fair to STV I have seen this on other channels, including ITV and some of the digital channels - e.g. "Daytime on ITV3 sponsored by...." or "Drama on ITV sponsored by...." - essentially what they are doing is getting sponsorship for programmes going out at certain times - mornings, afternoons, evenings.... So STV are no different to some other commercial channels.

The payment grant - I was speaking more of the current situation ie certain things missed out ie the recent opt outs you list say Secrets from the sky and for sport lets say Motorsport - I will assume as its not broadcast during opt outs STV will be getting Secrets from the sky at the cheaper price than what it would cost first aired (ie if ITV repeat show at 4pm its saving them in "costs"), still though STV have not caught up with other dramas since that dispute so may as well say they are now dead and buried thats for sure!

Advertising/sponsorship - fair enough but is this the general way we are actually heading on all "commerical" networks? I know the Drama Channel has some of its drama programming sponsored by a hotel company - I was more use to sponsoring programming but now sponsoring anytime of "day" or "night" is a new thing whats next for us in STV land with "the nightshift" will that be sponsored by Kwik Fit soon or how about TGI Fridays?

Oh look Forgetting Sarah Marshall is on this week ... wasn;t that last weekend on ITV?
and again why are we seeing another repeated run of Scottish Passport Shorts? Can STV give up on that Scottish Passport pony and move on?

Re programme opt outs:- I would imagine the payment for the block is made to ITV as a one off payment covering a certain block in a specific period of time, and so STV screen around say 90% of that block? The remaining (10%) unscreened shows (e.g. Motorsport/Secrets) within the block have already been paid for (I assume) so it's up to STV to screen them as and when - or not at all! I don't think the unscreened shows are not paid for but I may be wrong with that. By stv viewer's post (above) he is telling us that unscreened shows have been paid for (as part of paying for the block) irrespective of whether they are eventually screened (or not).

Re advertising/sponsorship - ITV3 have been operating "daytimes on ITV3 sponsored by..." and suchlike for at least a couple of years now, other channels have similar arrangements/sponsoring and all sorts of weird and wonderful packages - e.g. it is only in recent years sponsors have had the opportunity to top and tail ad breaks as bumpers (e.g. Talk Talk with the X Factor). As any commercial channel (incl. STV) can't rely on a licence fee and there are more and more channels and advertising opportunities available to companies now across all media, broadcasters are having to work and come up with ideas to cover costs/be profitable more than ever before.

I would then ask then why pay for programming you have no intention on showing or if you plan on showing them throw them around the schedule? Good grief they have slots from 1.35am at nights to show some of this programming (if not shown), I just find it pathetic that they aint using that time up than just revert to "nightshift/screen" this is where I think STV could at least +1 up ITV by at least show programming they did not braodcast during the "opt out" and people can catch up with on their player (or again is this down to costs?)

I just find it more weird these days if this is the way they are going to make up profits - they do realise that people do skip ads/bumpers if they have access to PVR systems? (I hope I have right terminolgy on that - ie Sky/Virgin box) - just find it more weird say I watch ITV in the evening I barely see any "sponsorship" for their schedule (I know ITV3 does that as you correctly point out) but seeing it on STV is odd that within a gap you have a sponsorship for a slot and then followed by another, yet if I go to FOX I am aware of an aftershave that sponsors its "drama" so take that from say 1pm-11pm (example)

So whats the point of this "Weirs Way with David" ? Again its another rehashed programme with a different face ... hardly surprising really ... i'll assume though that because this series is another reboot expect them to be turned into "5 min shorts" or be stuck on "nightshift"

I'll throw a suggestion they'll possibly place it at the weekend or they will wait for ITV to complete run and wait on them repeating them(?)

On paper got to agree, at least it would be keeping in tandem with the run on the main ITV. However let's look at Monday after the news:-

SCOTLAND TONIGHT 10.35-11.05, THE AGENDA 11.05-11.45pm, JONATHAN ROSS 11.45pm-12.45am, JEREMY KYLE from 12.45am. With the exclusion of SCOTLAND TONIGHT ITV follows the same pattern with ROSS finishing at 12.20am. What would be dropped and/or where would COUNTRYWISE go on STV?

On Friday after the news the STV schedule is:-

THE JOB LOT 10.40-11.10pm, FILM - PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 11.10pm-12.45am, NIGHTSHIFT from 12.45am. Difficult to see where SECRETS would go, as ITV follows suit with the comedy & film. The schedule there after the news is comedy & horror film (to tie in with Halloween), SECRETS is a documentary series.

So agree with your initial thought, but just trying to think of the possibilities...

Edit to add: Kezo may be right it they will poss. appear at the weekend - Gino & Harbour Lives due to finish soon, wouldn't surprise me seeing them there.

I think they are copying BBC1 Scotland re Coast & Grand Tours Of The Scottish Islands etc... ! Mind you, the original was a classic piece of broadcasting - I have to confess I am looking forward to this series, but do agree it will no doubt be chopped apart in the future to serve as filler!

Well if we look at the gap for Monday after Scotland Tonight its The Agenda at 11.05pm (ITV 10.35PM) then repeat Jonathan Ross then Jezza - they possibly could if Scotland Tonight was not running - as before Scotland Tonight came on scene STV/Grampian was basically like ITV in scheduling

as for Secrets From The Sky on a Friday night could be done as Scotland Tonight is not on yet looking at both sites:

STV runs The Job Lot at 10.40pm then film Forgetting Sarah Marshall then predictable Nightshift

ITV 10.40pm The Job Lot then Film Out of Sight < so this will be a +1 for us and with ITV its Jackpot247

STV seems to be they can't schedule thing properly - they'll repeat some of ITV's programmes missed at 8pm on after 11pm but on other programmes its more of a sit and wait to see if it will eventually air - if STV scrapped their Nightshift and Nightscreen and possibly scrapped the Jezza also maybe they could air these programmes but I doubt they will

I don't have a problem with David at all but why are they using the name "Weir" for the programme? Why not just say Hayman's Way then? I understand that supposedly "Weirs Way" is still popular with public but whats this reboot actually going to do? David speaking about how the guy Weir ventured out around Scotland? I just feel somethings especially in programming it should be left in the past than try and conjure it up with a different twist it ruins it. Just like most reboots these days I rather just stick to the originals

I remember seeing Weir's Way and Tom was standing at the side of the old A74 - cue a few (now old!) cars passing by! If Hayman tries that nowadays at the side of the new M74 I suspect he will be blown over by the HGV tailwinds and end up headfirst in a nearby burn!

Ah yes good suggestion - put it in before Ross repeat. Might be worth trying Secrets on Friday directly after News At Ten, so Secrets, Job Lot at 11.10 then Film at 11.40pm.
