As far as I even remember I am pretty sure when Grampian existed you still got films on at night but this is just laziness with STV controllers, why not just save the bother of it all and just put on "teleshopping" instead and make a buck or two of that since thats what most channels seem to do these days (and that too is pathetic)

Another thing i'll pick up on and annoys me to hell with this lot was at end of On Weirs Way with David is how they constantly plug in at the end of it "to catch up on the original series we will tell you how at the end" - we already know its on the STV Player FFS, is this all STV can really plug is them rabbiting on catching up on "old" programming on its player, yet looking at ITV and their ad for ITV Player most of the time its about say I'm a Celeb or other programming (say ITV2/3) but for STV to push down your throat their player and that STV Glasgow is taking the biscuit”

I guess STV are being seen to fill their quota re OFCOM with all that Nightshift tat, but you're right it's a disgrace. They seem hell bent on wanting to start Nightshift as close to midnight as possible at the weekend, to the point where they will not show a film that is being screened on ITV. All this does is knock everything out of sync as they are always running behind/not screening films at all.

As for constantly plugging old Weir's Way, it's a pain too.

I am surprised that OFCOM allows that but mind you they seem to allow channels with "teleshopping" get away with it, I find it more of ashame channels resort to this, whilst there is people out there everyday struggling to make ends meet and as for closing just at midnight (or just after) it is ridiculous - how can a channel that use to be known as Grampian/Scottish TV use to screen films at night and some programming now resort to putting up nightshift/screen at night its a disgrace but I presume thats down to advertising these days being that thinned out across all channels (how surprising in this multichannel digital age)

As for their plugins - I wouldn't mind if the ads were made to look half decent but they look like something out of "you've been framed" why can this lot not actually invest in the channel to make it look more appealing but of course I forgot most of the channel's output is mostly one side of Scotland than anything else

bit off topic: I see ITV Player has been removed from PS3 (supposedly temporary), I can't see STV's own player for PS3 - I am going to assume for now that their players have been completely removed for now .... oh well I will just use VM's catch up instead

Highlight of year for STV: "What a year" (errr no!) - I wonder what hosts they have cooked up for this show and finally STV Appeal: Where Your Money Went (possibly in their shareholders pockets ) (joke!!)

So really Hogmanay/Christmas on STV/ITV is a major borefest .... I'll stick to BBC I think and even on Hogmanay (yet even BBC Scotland's Hogmanay specials have gone down the pan over the years also )

Re WHAT A YEAR (STV 11.15pm-12.05am):-

"John Mackay and Jennifer Reoch are at Stirling Castle to take a look back at a momentous 12 months in Scotland's history. Helped by a few familiar faces from STV (Sean Batty? Ramjan? et al no doubt!) they recall the independence referendum, the Commonwealth Games, the Ryder Cup and a host of other events that made 2014 a year to remember". (wonder if they'll show Oor Meeechelle counting down her top 10 Swally Watering Holes of Glasgow from 2014? ).

BBC1 SCOTLAND LINE UP:-

10pm - STILL GAME THE STORY SO FAR, 11pm - ONLY AN EXCUSE, 11.30pm-12.30am HOGMANAY LIVE with Jackie Bird.

And who woulda thought it .... STV highlighting the "neverendum" once more ... sweet jesus does this channel ever give it a rest .... surely you think bring in the new year be "happy" with this lot makes you want to drink yourself into 2015! - familiar faces? Cue Dame Lorraine and the usual STV Crew (which aint much new!)

As for BBC Scotland line up - 50/50 on Still Game (was disappointed in the LIVE show recently on BBC One) Only An Excuse (that should go - its past its sell by date) Hogmanay Live - meh but beats STV's "jolly" line up .... BBC Scotland request please repeat the Rev I M Jolly for new years (I caught a few before Ricky passed and would be great if they repeated them!)

The 58 minutes version of Still Game Live 2014 (I call it this as I'm still a big fan of the original Still Game stage show back in 1999) that was shown on BBC 1 was very poor.

In fact it was so poor that I said to myself after watching it that I would not be buying the DVD.

However as I have all the episodes & the original stage show on DVD I decided to buy the DVD of the 2014 stage show when I saw it at half price about 4 weeks ago in Asda (in reality it was just to complete my Still Game DVD collection).

However to my surprise the full 2hr 5min show is actually good (not Series 1-3 good but certain good as in it is up there with the better episodes of series 4-6).

Also interesting to note that in the BBC 58 minute cut of the show they didn't include the fact that the 2014 stage show is dedicated to Ford Kiernan's teenage son who died at the beginning of the year. However this is kept in the DVD.

Overall if you like Still Game and can get the 2014 Stage show DVD for half price (£5-6) then it is worth it, however at full price I would be 50/50 on recommending it.

With regards to Only an Excuse I still watch it annually but to be honest all the jokes are stale and recycled every year and to be honest if Johnathan Watson decided to retire then the lack of Only an Excuse at new years wouldn't be too big a loss.

Then after Only An Excuse I turn over to BBC1 London for the London New Year Fireworks Display (which by far is miles better than what Glasgow or Edinburgh can offer, but then again us Scots hogmanay celebrations have been somewhat pathetic compared to New York and Sydney for 20-30 years, and London in the last 5 years has also now became better than what we offer).

After the London firework display it over to BBC2 for Jools and then bed. On first of January it get up, have breakfast, watch tv, have lunch and then down to the village pub and then drink the rest of the day with half the village.

Just a pity BBC Scotland could not show the full version of Still Game than cut it down (not a Still Game fan really but got into a couple years back)

personally I think New Year/Hogmanay will be BBC Scotland have radio on then off to bed at 1am (or before) - still though STV this year has managed to pull a Miss World contestant to host their show I wonder if they are paying her or was she told please do it for free

On first of January it get up, have breakfast, watch tv, have lunch and then down to the village pub and then drink the rest of the day with half the village.”

You know I thoroughly enjoyed that post and how you are going to spend your New Year - a perfect 1st January! Your post cheered me up tonight!

personally I think New Year/Hogmanay will be BBC Scotland have radio on then off to bed at 1am (or before) - still though STV this year has managed to pull a Miss World contestant to host their show I wonder if they are paying her or was she told please do it for free ”

Yes Kezo who knows with STV! Think I will be sticking with BBC.

Really? STV do have money to pay their staff - this is from a channel that seems to be more skint on making anything half decent but they have more time to have cash giveaways every week

As for show - would hazard a guess its pre-recorded as anything they put on to celebrate new year is hardly "live" compared to the BBC coverage

Just looked for it - seems Haymans Way is returning but unfortunately STV have taken down the page (said too much to soon?)

No surprises there as this is the same mob who played Petula Clark's DownTOWN single over the trailers a couple of years ago!

Thats true, I thought initally it was an ad for Downton for New Years but when I heard Christmas Day I was more of ... this has to be a joke, have to also say there ad for the STV Family and "we are all family" is a laugh too (fairly plug in STV Glasgow once more) - yes I know STV was a Glasweigan station but for god sake there is more to Scotland outside of Glasgow (why not plug in something for STV North ie North/Dundee), this is what grates me more anytime I tune into STV their own ads seem more focused towards the Clyde than anywhere in Scotland (and also any ads they play has a twang to it also) and the only time your area gets a plug in for say an app is on the ad break or within the STV News itself.

I was under the impression that since the merge of Grampian/Scottish - STV was meant to be "altogether Scotland" - anytime I watch it its more like "altogether Glasgow" - why do this lot in charge get their fingers out and make half decent shows for Scotland - for the ITV Network and for selling Worldwide, they scared or something? (the only thing half decent at moment is Weirs Way with David Hayman but again thats just basically another reboot) I still think STV North needs to be used alot more than be a basic switch on/off channel - why does STV not see this I don't know but since the merge I just think its been a disaster for it to have happened

They are awful - as for STV Glasgow it is run by halfwits - local tv station my backside!

If its a local channel why are they heavily advertising it? It can only be viewed in that area and possibly tuned in manually on a Sky box - but nobody outside Glasgow can really watch it (unless they sign up for an account with STV) but other than that pointless really! (or is Glasgow now alot bigger than I think )

STV Glasgow is ran by the same halfwits at STV

Just looking at the STV Glasgow site for whats on - High Road - Riverside Show - The Blether - Made In Scotland - Scottish Parliament This Week - Taggart - Highlands - Nick Hancock Fishing School and Hooked

Most of the shows are re-runs (no surprise there then) and 3 new shows for a "local" god help us and the rest of Scotland if they launch more of these channels - what will we get for Dundee? Pick A Number? Old programming featuring presenters such as Diana Speed and Robin Galloway

On a similar note, last night just before 9.00pm BBC News Channel showed a trailer for "Review Of The Year 2014....tonight at 8.30 on the BBC News Channel"!

The BBC are allowed to make mistakes... STV are not!

Joking aside I guess there is no broadcaster that has got it right all the time.
