Basically a miracle. DVD recorders don't do HD, your TV will upscale it anyway, upscaling it and saving it to disc will just make the file larger. The HD content on the disc is encrypted so other than outputting it in SD to a DVDR there's no other way. The best quality you can get is using the Sky box tv scart to output RGB to a DVDR that can record from a RGB source

theres no way to get a HD quality recording (or live signal) from a SkyHD box to disc (DVD or BluRay) - thats the whole point of the upgrade, to stop copying. If theirs a tv show or film you want on disc, you have to go and buy it.

As an aside note, on Freesat, Panasonnic make an expensive combi which is satellite with built in Bluray burner. This should work, but as its Freesat, you cant get all the encoded pay channels in the first place.

There are in fact other ways of recording the HD free to air content from satellite.

A generic fta HD sat pvr will record without encryption as will a Foxsat-hdr using non freesat mode. These files can be burnt to DVD blanks using AVCHD format. A single layer DVD blank will hold about 1hr of BBC-HD content, a dual layer double. More than this a blu-ray burner at around £150.00 is needed unless you split up the content of course. A blu-ray player is required to replay AVCHD discs.

which about 1% of the entire UK population know about or are able to do. No good for SKYHD encoded content in anycase.

If you've got the money you can get an hdfury2 (or 3) and a hauppauge hdpvr - this will then record anything on your sky hd box in hd to a computer. From there, if you have a blu-ray writer you can create your own blu-rays. If you have a dvd writer, you can create 40 minute AVCHD dvds that are in hd and play back in most blu-ray players.

Never realised I was one of the 1%

Merely pointing out that Freesat which can only view free to air content and the mega expensive Panasonic Blu-ray pvr is not the only way. A DVB-S2 sat card in a PC will do the same as well.

Think I read a thread a while ago that after Sky changed the colour model (from RGB to Component) used for hdmi that hdfury's don't work anymore. Before buying I suggest that this ought to be checked out.
