That's with free broadband. [for now.]

N.B
I knew in advance my paymet would be one week late, so I phoned them in advance and they still charged me.

If I could afford it or in-fact when I am well enough to work full time, I will just pay the early cancellation and go to anyone but BT.
I'd rather do without than be a BT customer.

You were late paying. Of course they charged you.

Set up a Direct Debit and you avoid that for ever.

Open a www.18185.co.uk account and use the 18185 prefix for all your non-inclusive 01, 02 and 03 calls. It will probably be cheaper for you to use that for your calls to mobiles and to most overseas destination too - but I'll leave that to you to investigate.

It never happened with Sky/Plus-net when I phoned in advance.

I'll never pay DD, that's another thread, but the late payment fee from BT is a hell of a lot less than what banks charge for not having enough to cover DD's.

I remember one year having enough money for a DD minus 3p so they paid the DD and still charged me £35.

Don't forget the 18185 account though - on the face of it (if they were all 01/02/03 calls), that would have saved you £20 or so on your £26 call charges (easily enough to cover your late payment and non-DD payment charges).
